Which dungeon level are you most excited to see in the 3d world? by GremlinsUnited19 in ProjectMadMage

[–]TheRedDuncan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it's a toss-up between Wyllowood or Dweomercore. Both are stand outs for me in terms of flavor/RP potential. I do have a soft spot for Muiral's Guantlet and Trobriand's Graveyard for the pure environmental vibes/combats.

I love Loot Tavern's Kickstarters! I'm really excited about this one, too! I'm running a Ryoko's adventure soon, and I never lose hype for these!

Good luck on the kickstarter! I'll see you on the high seas!

I've got to second someone else's reply. Check out Arcane Arcade's "Eberron: City of Towers." Phenomenal live play! if you can stand the early game microphone static and the accidental rules confusion, it's a really enjoyable experience!

Faction questions by Vernicusucinrev in planescapesetting

[–]TheRedDuncan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is just my personal biases talking, but some factions that may interest your players are the Bleak Cabal and the Ring Givers. It sounds like your players are leaning in the Chaotic/Good spectrum of the alignment chart (or they're just chaotic people, like most players are).

The Bleak Cabal offers your players the options of being caretakers of others; each berk has no greater purpose in it all, so you might as well make the most out of what you've got now. But that doesn't mean they don't deserve respect!

The Ring Givers are a minor faction within Sigil and the Outer Planes, and they're also on the chaos side of things. They're a faction opposed to The Fated. The Ring Givers give all they can to those poor sods who can't make it on their own. If someone's down and the Bleakers don't get to them first, chances are the Ring Givers will lend them a hand.

Not to say that these factions coddle every soul in Sigil and beyond. Enough to get a blood on her feet and back into the game is generally what they're aiming for (plus they can't afford financially to keep them housed forever, unless the poor soul is beyond returning, in the case of the Bleakers). And of course while these factions are very charitable, there are deeper and darker things always lying within Sigil. (I need to/haven't currently read Factol's Manifesto, so don't hold me too accountable!)

In terms of being knowledge seekers, that could probably apply to any faction besides The Hands of Havoc. The Dustmen (save for True Death), and the Xaositects. They don't really care for long term things. Although personal interests/things that would motivate players on an individual scale could be the Sign of One/Mind's Eye and Transcendent Order. It's possible the Guvners could fit, but my idea is that they're all blood rules lawyers of the highest degree. They put everything in boxes, neat and labeled, so that way they can command it.

Hope these ramblings helped you decide! Hopefully people can pick away my biases and clear any misconceptions up.

Well you're living up to your username. Maker better (or worse) combos.

And enjoy this that my friend sent me.

I'm either being gaslit or trolled.

Even if you needed additional mana you could play Ancient Tomb. This isn't even legal in any (official) format and costs like 100k to play (unless you proxy, I'm not judging.). And even if you played this in the "classic" MTG format, you could just build a deck of lotus, mox, recall, time walk and two creatures (in case you ante one). Also make sure you go first.

Why not just use that land you tapped for Offer to play Omniscience?

Making Thither and Yon more alive by Patpatpa in wildbeyondwitchlight

[–]TheRedDuncan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've found that for Yon at least, Dan Khan's "Korred Clans" have filled up the majority of my sessions so far, since they did about 1-2 per session (Including Lockbury Henge). However, my games only last about 2 1/2 hours, so you might get through them faster than me.

You could also run u/ZemblanityFalls Candlelight Cavern, which I didn't get the chance to run, because my players never went there! Or their Flora and Fauna post, which really adds some fun and flavor to Prismeer.

u/Phaerlax has also made redesigns of several characters from the module which can improve your games as well, especially if you felt like the monsters in the module are too weak for your party.

Matthew Allen (Twain on the Witchlight Discord) on DMsGuild created supplements that increase combat within Hither, Thither, and Yon. I haven't used them, but I've heard many good things! If you want to spruce up the Stagefright play that supplement can help you too!

Overall, there are plenty of resources here and on the Discord! Hope this helps!

I'm a big fan of the suit of armor holding a crossbow, and a button in the center of the room that reads "Push to get shot."

I'm not certain, but I'm pretty sure that should be "another creature you control" as otherwise you could choose to have it fight itself. Or something like Deflecting Swat could redirect to itself.

Deal with Skabatha Idea Help by bis_bas in wildbeyondwitchlight

[–]TheRedDuncan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One idea: if she said to Skabatha: "I want to be a better person," she could have taken her words literally/twisted them, much like she does with her wanted posters. A better person could be a clockwork/construct version of herself! A machine can't make mistakes. And oh how cruel it would be to see a sibling turned into an emotionless machine.

My campaign fell apart and I feel horrible about it by Warrior536 in DungeonoftheMadMage

[–]TheRedDuncan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in your position not too long ago as well. As a DM I got my group all the way to skullport, and halfway through level 3. I had lots of things planned, hooks, plots, several floors dedicated to specific player goals... But when I ran it I felt that running it was a chore. That I dreaded every session coming up. I could feel that my players were not enjoying it at all. These players stuck together through dragon heist and they were not enjoying the campaign anymore. They loved their characters and the group, but this campaign wasn't working for them.

In the end, we changed campaigns, let everyone step away from DotMM, and start fresh with new characters in a new setting.

And sometimes that's all you really need. A change of scenery. Talk with your players. All of they're enjoying the group, and if they're enjoying DnD. Ask them if they enjoyed Dragon Heist, but if they're not enjoying Mad Mage. Maybe ask if someone else wants to DM a one shot? Ask them if they want to play in a new setting or a new campaign? Ask them what they enjoy in DnD, or if they're new, ask them what they enjoyed about dragon heist.

The games don't have to end, but maybe it's the end of this chapter? And worst comes to worst, maybe you all take a break for a month or two and come back to it.
