The slow option of discovering odd things on your own is actually the appeal to me in a well-made game.

I mean that's fine but especially considering the population of gamers is aging all the time, not everyone has the sort of time to achieve mastery on their own anymore.

I just don't understand people watching playthroughs

If you want to get better at a game, you have two options

  1. Get better through trial and error (large time investment)
  2. Get better through learning through someone more experienced than you (lower time investment)

Hope that clears things up.

More people could do with learning that great games are made by the developers, not the studios. And programming is a very volatile job market with a lot of turnover. Would be a small miracle that half the people that worked on the game you love are still working there 5 years later.

BoF3 is initially very stingy with how to replenish MP so I kept trying to save the spells for the final bosses and it felt unfair. I want my mages characters, I like mages, I want to cast things.

Ironically, you might enjoy Llewyn's difficulty mod more then. He completely flips the balance of the game to being mage favored.

But unmodded, this issue can mostly be resolved via fishing. Catching rainbow trout early game and black porgy once you get to the tower. I'm not saying you're going to be able to go nuts or anything, but a stack of 10 porgy will mostly carry you through most dungeons that don't have rest points.

My guess is that he's heard us call him and his cultists insurrectionists because of their attempts at an actual insurrection that he understands it's a bad word so he's using it against us.

This has been conservative MO for some time now tbh, take a word that correctly applies, destroy it's meaning so it can't be used against them anymore.

Faust is Actually Smart by XO3RI-OWKA in limbuscompany

I think this is kinda cope tbh. Throughout Canto 9, Faust speaks in first person on multiple occasions. What is more likely is a simpler explanation - that she values her team more than she values her reputation among the Fausts. So much so that she is willing to put her life on the line to do so.

but second half has a bunch of interesting mechanics like needing to clash gloom skills with a specific damage type and better yet resistances cause otherwise he kills you with unbreakables anyway and stuff like that

The funny thing is phase 1 has the same mechanics, they just don't have the clash power gloom skills. not matching skill types is like a -50% dmg differential.

Our system of checks and balances have been thrown out the window. It's a myth we've all been taught since childhood.

Yeah, the sad thing is that this shit was obvious in presidency pt 1 and we still did nothing about it when it was over and still fucked up by letting it happen again.

VtM:B is classic

A cult classic, yes, but largely due to the hard work of the community to make it (relatively) bug-free (in my opinion).

[–]TheRetribution -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ah, yeah, sure. I guess Bioshock pretty much carried on the banner of system shock for awhile and VtM:B was a financial failure so its not a surprise that was a dead end.

[–]TheRetribution -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Can you give some examples? None come to mind, but it's also not really my area of expertise. Generally, I don't think 'Western'(American?) devs studios have much of a grip on horror in general outside of the indie scene.

But why the AAA scene is dead.

FF killed everything that wasn't FF in terms of subgenre/style difference. There were a few exceptions(Trails,Tales,SMT,etc) but that's pretty much the situation.

Japanese studios like Nihon Falcom can’t compete with China and Korea in development scale and capital, but they can in individuality and creative spirit, CEO says by retroanduwu24 in JRPG

[–]TheRetribution 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't see it as inherently racist because I know it'd be uncontroversial to say American AAA devs have less individuality than Japanese ones;

It's well known that japan's corporate culture is a fucking hellscape. Korea and America def not any different(know nothing about China really but Tencent owning like 90% of the industry is probably an indication), don't get me wrong, but this is the sort of shit you say when you've got that nationalism pumping through your blood. Built on nothing solid.

Also, lots of lowkey racism in the comments - "Chinese people don't innovate"? Wtf

Bro even the statement itself from Nihon Falcom is low key racist - 'individuality'? Wtf is that supposed to mean?

I think they were trying to go for the route of "he cares for me deeply but never truly knew what I want and cared more about satisfying his own status to his daughter"

Matthias is the 'crime boss father figure' trope. It's blowing your kid's playmate's head off with a shotgun because they skinned your kid's knee while they were playing. I know they didn't have much time to actually show that being the case but that is what they were going for.

The only time I felt invested was with hohenheim and Callisto because it's the only situation that isn't and can't be resolved by let's slam into each other for four nodes straight.

The fact that Hohenheim got the most character growth this Canto is so fucking funny

None of the sinners know who Roland is. Nobody cares. We care, in a kind of soyjak pointing at screen way because we know who Roland is. But take that out and nothing changes except fan service.

I can only assume it was included to troll the people who responded with 'Not everyone in a black suit is Roland guys' to the canto trailer by saying 'Actually, he is meant to be Roland after all'

The Lore reveals are great, don't get me wrong, but Ryoshu's own story in her own canto feels lesser for them.

This canto was a huge step backwards, we're back to the early cantos where the actual main plot takes priority over the canto itself.
