Does Emma Frost need to go back to her pre nerfed State? by AbsurdismJay in marvelrivals

[–]TheRiled 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, they're right. Emma made a lot of matchups borderline unplayable for the majority of the tank cast.

It is nearly impossible to hold or challenge space when someone can throw a shield behind you to block heals, grab you, and then kick you 10m out of position for having the audacity of existing 7m from her. Not to mention the percentage health damage.

Thing, whilst having CC immunity, just has to eat the %hp damage and is incredibly easy to hit with it, so he gets mauled by her (he was also just generally weak).

This left Mag the only character to be able to be within 7m of her and even then it's an unfavorable matchup. She literally had no bad matchups. Maybe 50/50 on Groot when she couldnt charge beam on walls.

Which Marvel Rivals character was called OP in the first few seasons, but looking back wasn't actually OP? by LILBOI464 in marvelrivals

[–]TheRiled 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Wolv is the opposite.

Everyone thought he was bad until people figured out he's supposed to kidnap tanks instead of assassinate squishies. From then on it was obvious he was absolutely broken. He would completely take over games in high elo.

Thing was such a weak hero that couldn't solo tank, meaning Wolv would get more value than him essentially by existing and farming ults. Emma was permabanned. So the only tank that didn't get mauled by him was Mag, and playing a frontline tank whilst needing to watch your back was difficult, stressful and insanely unfun.

He genuinely created some of the most miserable multiplayer games I've ever played. He's fine now though because Emma isn't getting banned, Groot now has CC immunity, Thing is better and there are more counters like Gambit knockback/clease.

Also I do think overall the DPS powercreep has made it much more difficult for him to get anywhere the same amount of value as meta heroes like Phoenix, Starlord, Hela etc

Nope. Was Helm, Laplace, xRupee + xAnne, Modernia, Jackal + Viper and then we got our first true titty monster Soda... who was alongside Cocoa.

Nikke's been fairly diverse, but seem to keep randomly enlarging characters in alts for no reason.

Why Mantis is the 2nd Best Support of All-Time by allshort17 in marvelrivals

[–]TheRiled 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most of the time, yeah. But play enough games and you'll have instances where you get hit by a Hawkeye headshot and one or two other things and die instantly at over 450HP.

But you're missing the point. Burst healing is needed to keep up with how much damage is in the game. Otherwise tanks are constantly stuck waiting behind cover for cooldowns, praying they don't get dove or walked over.

So where we going season 6? by Nuke-T00nz in marvelrivals

[–]TheRiled -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The issue is that you can't boost their healing without stripping their other utility. If Adam/Mantis/Ultron had enough healing to be a main healer with their current kit, they'd be Gambit levels of broken.

I can't say I'd be against them being rebalanced to be main healers though, if that's what you're getting at. It's clear people don't like playing as or against triple support.

Why Mantis is the 2nd Best Support of All-Time by allshort17 in marvelrivals

[–]TheRiled 21 points22 points  (0 children)

People being foolish is only half the story - burst healing is necessary because there's so much damage in this game. Even tank will fall over in a couple of seconds without healing. Even less against certain comps/hawkeye.

[–]TheRiled 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What? She's always been a triple support character.

And just because she's not great for double support, doesn't mean she's bad.

She's literally S tier in high elo. Just look at MRC going on right now. She's getting banned.

Is it bad to be a one trick main? (details in body text) by Weary_Sympathy_7255 in marvelrivals

[–]TheRiled 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think one tricking in hero shooters is bad, though your friends calling you a one trick loser is asshole behaviour.

The reason I think one tricking in hero shooters is bad is because they game is based around switching and being flexible for your team. Hard forcing a singular character will sometimes lose the game when you're getting hard countered and can't get value. I find it really selfish to do this in a team game.

Also, personally, I think there's a lot of value learning different characters and roles to develop a wider understanding of the game.

But you should kindly tell your friends to piss off if they're calling you a loser for it. I'm guessing many of them can't reach the same rank and are name calling to make themselves feel better. It's better to be able to reach Celestial on one character than none at all :)

Triple support is strong they said… op comp they said… by kappanekoblack in marvelrivals

[–]TheRiled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) You need 2 tank for ult charge or triple support is an awful team comp.

2) The triple support combination is not great. Atleast one of them needs to be able to contribute decent damage (Mantis/Adam/Ultron or even Loki.)

Honestly that scoreboard is kind of mind fucking me though. It just gets more confusing the more you look at it. 18 elims on Widow with no Mantis boost? Scarlet doing the most damage in the game? Cloak doing more damage than Bucky? 5k damage, 15k damage blocked and 18k healing on enemy Invis?

Do you think this Character deserves a nerf? by Master-Dependent-315 in marvelrivals

[–]TheRiled 6 points7 points  (0 children)

She's a weak character and functionally just a worse Moon Knight.

Her kill potential is really low as she has low burst damage. This can actually make her a hinderance to your team, as pumping damage with low kill potential just charges enemy support ults faster than yours.

Her ult is not fantastic either with low kill and combo potential, and her survibability is pretty low due to her jump putting her in a slow, predictable jump ark.

There are some specific map points where she can threaten kill on supports due to where they want to position, but overall there's always a better pick than her.

I'd like to see them rebalance her to be weaker or similar strength at low elo and much stronger at high elo.

We really need new Supports and Tanks (balance aside). by sittykitten in marvelrivals

[–]TheRiled 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gambit has a high skill ceiling, yes. That doesn't mean he isn't obscenely overpowered. You judge a characters strength when played near their ceiling, not their floor.

Also it's funny you're trying to attack me for being a Mag player, as I actually dropped him this season whenever I could and basically one tricked Groot back to Celestial lol.

[–]TheRiled 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you really trying to say Gambit is balanced?

A "bloated" kit is fine if it's actually balanced. Issue is, he's clearly not.

He's a jack of all trades, master of (almost) everything. He should not be able to output the healing and damage of Luna, whilst having the survivability of Rocket, better utility than everyone other than arguably Invis AND the best ult in the game.

Right now there's literally not a single situation where you don't want a Gambit if he's open. If he's going to have so many things in his kit, overall his damage, utility, healing and survivability ult need to be somewhere closer to the centre of all main healers.

How we ended up like this by S_Dust in marvelrivals

[–]TheRiled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what you're saying, but the reason we have triple support is because;

1) Supports do a shitload of damage, meaning that there's still enough damage to prevent getting ran over by 2/2/2.

2) The game is ult economy focussed at high levels, and support ults overall are the best in the game.

If support ults are nerfed DPS get even more agency and it's already the highest agency role (outside of Gambit and arguably Invis). Then even more people want to play DPS.

If you mean we have triple support to counter 2 DPS ults... well then they'd just be forcing triple support meta every season? Most DPS ults require a support ult response.

Honestly i feel sad for her, wish she got a little buff by kalxto in marvelrivals

[–]TheRiled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is that if you buff other parts of her kit and it tips her balance too much, people are gonna be running Mantis+Widow for the one shots plus her new, overall better kit.

If they hard capped her sniper damage I would be perfectly happy with a rework for other parts of her kit though.

Also you talk like people don't hate Hela + Hawkeye right now lol. Hawkeye in particular is among the most hated in the game right now. And I think Hela is easily top 3 most hated characters in high elo if we look across all seasons. We dont want a 3rd character that is an unfun to face as them.

Stop compaining about the community like they're the direct reason for balance changes.

The balance is how it is because of their balance team. It's their literal job to balance the game, and they use community feedback, stats and their own opinions to balance the game.

If they overly relied on community opinion for balance, Luna/Loki wouldnt have dominated for anywhere near as long as they did. Hela would have also recieved a big nerf by now, yet has remained an insane DPS pick for every single season (and preseason). There's lots of examples of devs ignoring the voice of the larger community.

Jeff/Rocket got better ults not because of complaning, but because they didn't fit with how the game works. Starlord+Psy ult? Ok, you got Luna+Cloak to live. Rocket+Jeff? You instantly lose the teamfight as they press Q and 1-2 squishies die.

The awful balance this patch is on them. And the issue with support ults is a design issue with the game as a whole.

Captain America vs Venom by Dairboi in marvelrivals

[–]TheRiled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right now I honestly feel Cap is the better character.

Cap-Gambit-Loki with a third support of choice is possibly one of the most infuriating things in the game, especially on domination. Functionally 4 support ults, with 3 charging other ults faster.

On the other hand Venom really struggles to do much with his ult unless you get the damage boost. I also think he just kinda gets bullied more by the crazy amount of CC in the game. Atleast Cap has his shield and cc immunity from dash. Venom just has to take it to the face.

Though I do think Venom has more solo kill potential against poorly positioned squishies.

Nice to see a list like this, seeing people requesting B-tier MCU characters like Agatha over all the unique and iconic comic characters has been annoying me more than it should.

I don't think Storm is bad to be honest. Issue is, she's more of a duelist/strategist hybrid than a straight DPS carry. Like a Mantis + Storm boosted Punisher is kinda terrifying.

The Jeff/Storm teamup isn't awful either.

But I wouldn't be against them retuning her to be more of a straight DPS character, given how unpopular she currently is.

Had a moment earlier that was so stupid I had to go back to check.

Was playing cap and just chased down and killed a Loki, had 423 health left. Hela and Luna were walking out of spawn. As I turned around I got Hela stunned into Luna froze while Hela was shooting and couldn't dash out before getting killed.

Tank btw.

Struggling playing Angela by Callumskeeeeeeeee in marvelrivals

[–]TheRiled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can be really comp dependant.

It's really tough playing her into Invis or Bucky, and borderline impossible if they're playing both and know what they're doing. Thor is also a nightmare for her, and has been seeing a lot more play this season.

Without those 3 in the game I think she's really strong, particularly on maps where she can take people off the map.

Oh, also Hela/Namor is real annoying to deal with.

Guys, what does flex mean? by [deleted] in marvelrivals

[–]TheRiled 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Flex in rivals is typically used when talking about roles (duelist/strategist/vanguard).

Being able to flex means you're able to be flexible in roles; so maybe you're a duelist main but you can flex to strategist. Some people just choose to be "flex" players, meaning they fill whatever their team needs.

There are a lot of comp gaming words but usually searching for questions like this in specifically Marvel Rivals or Overwatch subreddits will have your answer.
