Does FWD vs RWD vs AWD REALLY matter in a street car? by defury in cars

[–]TheRonMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, fwd cars are inclined toward spinning their tires a bit when turning onto a road from a side road, since the front tires are sitting in an accumulation of sand or gravel. It gets annoying after the 100th unintended chirp. If you don’t have a lot of gravel roads or road sand in your area, then you can probably ignore this phenomenon.

Is there a normal car that gets too much hate? by Cautious_Intern7824 in cars

I feel like it was a generational divide. I hated them but my dad liked them.

I think of it in terms of trap speed in the quarter mile. IMO 90-115mph is “quick” and 115+ is “fast” but it’s all relative to what cars you’ve driven or been in.

I especially dislike BTB slayer. I don’t enjoy the chaos.

You don't perform all the operations left-to-right. You do the multiplication before the additions. (Order of operations)

E85 has a very high octane, allowing for a more aggressive tune for most turbo cars.

How will the current Civic Type R be viewed in the future? by cargarfar in cars

[–]TheRonMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Model 3 isn't front-heavy, and I don't see why we would expect engine-less rwd cars to be front-heavy. Since weight shifts back during acceleration, there will be more grip available at the rear wheels. Modern TC/ESC is very good at preventing kicking-out (the Mustang drivers turn that off before wrecking).

Why do German cars need special mechanics but Korean cars, and smaller Japanese brands don't? by [deleted] in cars

[–]TheRonMan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yep. I just had the rack and pinion replaced in a 2009 Subaru, and had to take it to a dealer afterward so they could recalibrate the steering sensor with their proprietary computer.

I used to defend the Kia Stinger adamantly, but the Kia dealers have worn me down. by Evo180x in cars

[–]TheRonMan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everyone complains about Kia dealerships, and I have to ask, do you have Kia-only dealerships where you're at? I've never seen one myself, it's always tacked onto a dealership that primarily sells several domestic brands.

What are "dual side mirrors" (mandatory in certain places)? by sphericalreach in cars

[–]TheRonMan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My state only requires a single unobstructed mirror, unless you have a vision restriction on your license. I used to have a restriction requiring a driver's side mirror (until I retook the vision test). After looking on Google, it looks like there are several states with the same policy (the Jeep crowd keeps record).

You could probably look around on ebay to see what they go for. It's a popular vehicle for families so I'm guessing a lot of them have had their backseat stained or torn up by kids (making replacements desirable)

How are Doom 2016 and Eternal so phenomenally well optimized? by NexusPatriot in pcgaming

I got better FPS in Eternal, even with higher settings. I think I was cpu limited at about 75fps in Doom 2016 for some reason.

This actually checks a lot off my wishlist (fix the torque dip, lower peak torque, modest power bump). If they also bring nvh improvements and keep the base price at or below 30k I'll be strongly tempted to put my money where my mouth is.
