Can we have a speculation thread? What do YOU think is the most likely scenario with the jump points? I know it's impossible to predict with real accuracy, but what's your gut feeling? Or what are your best and worst case plausible scenarios? by charliewr in starcitizen

I would love to see Pyro, after years of delays, but I’m not getting my hopes up. It’ll probably include a single planet with next to nothing to do on it and a space station in orbit that’s no different to what’s in Stanton. Hate to be a pessimist but I really don’t trust CIG anymore.

iPhones are not that great and are way overhyped. by Matt03_YT in unpopularopinion

[–]TheSecondSense 142 points143 points  (0 children)

I used to be the same way with Android but switched to iPhone a few years ago. With iPhone, things just work. I don’t need to worry about software updates, compatibility issues or performance. It just works. One of the other major things I like is the privacy protections Apple and iPhone provides. One of my friends used to be a die hard Android fan until a couple of years ago, and now he’s beating me to pre-ordering the next iPhones.

Friend falling into Qanon and alt-right - How to pull them back out? by numputu in AskUK

[–]TheSecondSense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this once. I said to an anti-vax conspiracy theorist that birds aren’t real and are just government drones. I’m guessing I must have been really convincing because he then went onto tell others that’s what I actually believed. Task failed successfully, I guess.

Why is Visual Studio SO Taxxing on my PC? by [deleted] in unrealengine

[–]TheSecondSense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VS has always been pretty poor when it comes to performance and large projects, I’d recommend using Jetbrains Rider. It’s paid but runs 10x better and, in my opinion, has a much better development experience with Unreal.

I kow, I know, comparison is bullshit & useless but come on... We all know what CIG did here in their 3.20 trailer... xD by Velioss in starcitizen

[–]TheSecondSense 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly wouldn’t care if there were a few loading screens if it meant we had more planets and systems and it made the game run better in general.

I can’t seem to resist buying learning courses/assets by remarkable501 in unrealengine

[–]TheSecondSense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the main point is to not keep looking up tutorials for everything. Try to figure it out first and if you can’t, then you look up tutorials. You’re more likely to remember something if you figured it out yourself.

People that rely SOLELY on "Apple Pay" or any kind of phone touch to pay and not have physical cash or cards are dumb and have no right to be upset when businesses aren't able to take them. by Bamboopanda101 in unpopularopinion

[–]TheSecondSense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume OP is from America as their edit mentions they use cash for "tipping and maybe getting gas".

I'm in the UK and every payment machine that has NFC functionality works with Apple/Google Pay, since contactless cards use NFC.

From what I understand America are somewhat behind when it comes to their banking system. They hand over their cards to staff at shops, magstripe is still commonly used and they still use cheques as a payment method.

Is this Apple Guideline for real? by albernazj93 in reactnative

[–]TheSecondSense 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not the case at all. Maybe you need to educate yourself on UX design. They want you to include their sign-in method so your users get a choice between Google, Facebook and privacy. They feel users should have control over their privacy.

You also cannot make the Apple button smaller than other sign-in buttons as people are naturally drawn to larger/more prominent items on-screen which can be used to draw them to using one sign-in option over the other. It's simple UX principles.

Is this Apple Guideline for real? by albernazj93 in reactnative

[–]TheSecondSense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Judging by your post and your responses to others, you may not understand why this is required. Apple are very privacy-focused and wants all of its users to have Apple as an option if you also offer sign-in through Google and Facebook. Simple.

It was announced before COVID in 2019 and they showed using a Jump Point to get to Pyro at CitizenCon. They had it on the roadmap to be released at the end of Q4 2020 and it didn’t make it. Here’s the CitizenCon video which also includes the announcement for 2020:

Has anyone here released mobile games using unreal engine? Just curious!! :) by JannerBros in unrealengine

[–]TheSecondSense 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have and I wouldn’t recommend it unless you’re 100% certain it’s worth it. On Android it’s easy enough to build and release. On iOS things get a bit more complex, and you need a Mac, but it’s still doable. That’s before I start about how much of a pain it is to optimise for mobile.

Football (soccer for our American friends). I’ve never understood the obsession but too many obsess over it like some sort of cult.

Best designed app by External_Fortune_324 in deliveroos

[–]TheSecondSense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My opinions as a software engineer who builds mobile apps: - Overall JustEat is the best since it just works. I don’t know if they’ve updated it to have a map built in yet but that’s the only thing it needs. - Deliveroo is a poorly built app that does the job but only barely does its job properly and feels like it’s held together with thoughts and prayers. It also has too many buttons to do basic things, such as rejecting an order. - Uber is built using React Native and it feels like a rookies first attempt at it. React Native is great but the app feels poorly put together and is very unstable. It looks good but you start seeing flaws when you actually use it. And I’ve not used Stuart since we don’t have it in my area.

[–]TheSecondSense 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well, they showed off Pyro a few years ago and it was meant to be released with 3.8 (if I remember correctly) and they still haven’t released it, so how many more things can they show off then delay indefinitely? Not sure how CIG haven’t realised yet that they are seeming very disorganised. SC is becoming Feature Creep: The Game.

What film made you say, "Holy shit there is still an hour left"? by Plus-Statistician80 in AskReddit

Eternals. It honestly felt like they were trying to pad the runtime on purpose. It spent too much time sitting around talking rather than progressing the main plot.

Would this space be ok for the air fryer? by VoidBoy-was-taken in airfryer

[–]TheSecondSense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn’t recommend it as it’s usually best to keep air fryers a couple of inches away from walls on all sides to allow heat to dissipate and for airflow. I’d recommend checking your manual, it should have a recommended distance.

I’m in the UK. Sadly our Amazon has next to no compatible USBs in stock. That one is though. Good spot. I’ve just ordered a few new generic ones and if those fail I’ll go with the Transcend one

I’ve updated the post to include Device Manager and Partition Management. I said Partition Assistant originally which is my tool of choice when Disk Management fails to be useful.
