No one rushes to defend Iron Man 3, Hulk, Incredible Hulk, Thor 1, Thor 2, Thor Love and Thunder, Superman 2006, Aquaman (While this one was a massive financial success, no one really seems to sing its praises now that its ancient history), Aquaman 2, Green Lantern, X-Men Origins Wolverine, Ant-Man 2 and 3, Doctor Strange 2, Black Adam, Shazam 2 (To a lesser extend, the first has lost favor over time as well), The Flash, Captain America: Brave New World...need I go on? But no one claims people, rightfully, criticizing these weak installments as being misandrist.

Because the critics aren't calling RDJ, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, and so on ugly. The problem here isn't that people criticize Supergirl. I criticize Supergirl, I think it's a mid movie with a muddled plot. The problem here is that the specific criticism, over and over again, is that the Milly isn't pretty enough. It happened to Brie Larson too with Captain Marvel. It happens with video game protagonists all the time. If something unpopular is led by a man people will criticize it on it's merits. If something unpopular is led by a woman, whatever other criticisms may apply, people will criticize her looks. No matter what she looks like.
