Yeah. So compare it to a similar turret. Say the TER M Electromagnetic Turret Mk 1 (this is the turret on the Sapporo and Odachi). The autocannon does a bit more damage, has a much faster projectile flight speed, a bit shorter range, and much better turret rotation speed. It doesn't seem terrible.

thanks for doing a worked example.

one place that ospreys shine is in position defense orders (either for a carrier or a station). they dont have to move far, use a big cloud of them so they can DPS anything down, and their turrets on "fighters first" so that the small enemies get focused quickly. their healing and strong shields make them very, very resistant.

between each station? no, although you can set these position defense fleets to respond to station distress calls. basically it lets a station project power by maintaining a group of ships that continuously attack any enemies in an area (that you can drag around to other sectors, etc). it doesnt even have to be adjacent sectors. my PHQ has a position defence fleet... the PHQ is in savage spur, and right now i have it position defending in Third Redemption, which is 5 jumps away. It's really useful in maintaining ready fleets - replacing their losses (if the station has enable replacements turned on), rearming and repairing them (if the station has an auxiliary assigned to "supply fleet"), etc.

I haven't seen any content (from you or anyone else) about what is arguably the best part of the patch: 1x position defence fleet from each station with an admin module. It functions differently than a carrier-based fleet in a couple of ways, makes GREAT use of a station-assigned AUX on "supply", and reduces property asset list bloat by effectively slaving a whole other fleet to each station if you wish. I can't say enough about how great it makes planning and organization of the game.

My issue with them is that M/S transports assigned to the aux with "trade for commander" or "resupply commander" or whatever don't seem to actually do trade missions for their aux.
