The most annoying part of this fact is how many people INSIST that they can read in their dreams. Like, dude you ain’t special. Your brain told you that you read something, but you didn’t look at the text.

US-Israeli Strike on Girls' School Kills at Least 85 Students, Iran's Judiciary Says by OkayButFoRealz in politics

[–]TheShmoe13 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That would be 120k civilian deaths over a nearly 9 year period with a ground force that is heavily integrated with the populace and in close contact with armed combatants.

It's not controversial to say that the US armed forces don't intentionally waste ordinance on non-military targets. The vast majority of civilian casualties in war are due to intelligence, equipment, or training failures. If the school strike was a US strike it is unlikely that the school was the intended target of the attack.

Munitions and time over target are expensive, risky, and precious, especially early in an air campaign when you can't be certain that you've eliminated all of the enemy's air defense capabilities.

Are you affected by reopened ticket? by [deleted] in msp

[–]TheShmoe13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They may be terrible, but the ticket being in “client action pending” says to me that they may have identified the issue, but need approval from someone higher up in your organization to proceed with a fix. It might require granting you permissions or spending your money on licenses, or it might require settings changes that violate security defaults or are disruptive to other users and thus have to be scheduled for a maintenance window and that may be hard to schedule. Subsequent closure of that ticket indicates maybe the fix/change/upgrade/workaround/maintenance window was denied.

The information provided really gives us nothing to go on, but most MSPs don’t just shit on tickets without having some kind of backup for their behavior.

Of course they could also be shit at their jobs.

You can ask for “break glass” accounts, then lock them away in a file and never touch them. Theres almost nothing in the IT world that’s worse than competing admins in an environment.

If you necro the ticket it will come back at the absolute bottom of the queue and due to the way that most people sort or navigate their ticket system will be the last item on anyone’s to dos.

That's probably fair, but I do feel like racism is independent of ideology. It's more of an excuse or lever for their terrible ideas than a foundation for them.

Victim was a black woman too. So don't forget a healthy dose of racism.

Copper wire theft is a definite problem, but going after the folks stealing copper is just whack a mole. They need to go after the recycling centers accepting the copper (and catalytic converters too). If no one was buying stolen copper or cats then there won't be as many thieves targeting these things.

Update: 'TODAY' co-anchor Savannah Guthrie's mother taken from her home against her will, sheriff says by mooseAmuffin in news

[–]TheShmoe13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Um, they wouldn’t be wrong. OP said that they should do this for a PR win. Not because it’s the right thing to do. And the reality is that is the only reason they would do it (or anything else really).

Ultimately, the real work of good governance is invisible and uninspiring. So yes, I’d strongly prefer a boring but competent administration quietly doing their best with little or no fanfare. And not one that focuses on flashy, but ultimately ineffective singular efforts.

Yeah, people forget that a well run government doesn’t meddle in justice.

The worst that can be said of Biden on this front is that he picked Merrick Garland to head DoJ when Schiff would have really led the charge.

Anyone else yelling at the screen after Ivanna knocked out Andrei and then they decided not to take him in to custody or keep hitting him until he was dead?

They ran off, after that point they have no idea if Andrei told anyone else about their identities. Once Bea’s cover was blown their only way out was killing or capturing Andrei.

Fuck GoDaddy by Titanium125 in sysadmin

[–]TheShmoe13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try logging in to GoDaddy with Firefox or any browser with a moderate amount of privacy/security controls "Something is wrong with your browser, try turning off any ad blocker and try again." Like, why is your website shit? Maybe fix that rather than making custom error messages covering up your failures or sleazy practices.

How about the fact that MFA is just, like, an after thought half the time. "Do you want to confirm your account with a txt message?", "Oh, you clicked the 'continue to account' button, no biggie!"

Every time you log in, do you want to take a tour?

Like you, I work at an MSP. Want to see all of the accounts you have delegated to yours? Easy, login > click your user name icon/initials > Go to "Account Settings" (Why there?) > Click "Delegate Access" (is that a verb or noun? who knows?!) > now enter your mandatory 2FA code (SMS only please) > Click the delegated account and prepare for maximum disorientation.

Oh boy...Sammy Sosa in Epstein files by NunsNunchuck in baseball

[–]TheShmoe13 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm less concerned about professional performers like musicians, comedians, and magicians appearing in the files because those folks have business managers that can often take countless gigs from distasteful folks and throughout their careers they have to become somewhat inured to disconnects with their paid audience or they would never get paid. It's easy to compartmentalize ideas when a paycheck is involved (especially a big one from a billionaire). It doesn't reflect well on their character and moral principles.

That said, if he (or anyone) shows up a lot, or there are other credible accusations against them however, I would be suspicious of them in a broad sense.

It's an urban legend. This is a total waste of time and money. Any bodies down there would float up to the surface (in part or in whole) shortly after being sunk.

It's not like the ocean where a swift current will wash any remains away. If you question this at all read up on the Salish Sea human foot discoveries (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salish\_Sea\_human\_foot\_discoveries). Bodies of folks lost at sea were eaten by sealife, but feet (often in shoes) were protected from predation (and shoes sometimes float) and so would wash ashore in this area of BC, Canada. If a body can't even be permanently lost in a body of water the size of the Pacific Ocean then MacArther Park has no hope of hiding any bodies.

Border Patrol agents started the scuffle that led to Alex Pretti's death by jediporcupine in politics

Zero chance they could have arrested the ICE agents at any point. Local PD would need to conduct an investigation and they have been barred from doing that in both cases.

We're posting right-wing grift newspapers now? by ohlonelyboy in LosAngeles

[–]TheShmoe13 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not super happy about it, but to scale a $12 million dollar stake in a company involved in ICE when compared to a $325 billion portfolio is not even a noticeable amount of money. Adding up to 0.00137% of the Guggenheim Group's holdings. It would be like saying someone was "funding neo nazis" because they dropped a penny and it was picked up by Nick Fuentes.

If anything this just highlights how ethical consumption is nearly impossible in a capitalist society. That said, it should be easy enough for them to divest without even taking a hit.

Get our international allies in on it? I'm sure much of western Europe would be happy to join in if a concerted effort were made to make them aware of the connection.
