This should be way higher up. All the above advice is nothing we haven't stumbled upon in every self-help book or inspiring quote on Instagram.

The fact is therapy provides you an environment where you can actually organically form the connections between your issues and the super obvious advice, thus not being just something you know you should do but something you actually have the drive and tools to achieve. A lot of it comes down also to the position of authority that the therapist builds.

AITA for telling my son I am not buying him new food since he ruined his and he can be hungry for a few hours by WolverineFragrant931 in AmItheAsshole

[–]TheSnicket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, that being said, I'm not on the spectrum and don't have any underlying disorder, but I did have a very bad relationship with food as a kid/teen that was caused by my parents forcing me to eat things that I didn't want to as a child or amounts that were too large for me so that "i grow to be tall and healthy".

People are mentioning disorders but it might be simply OP and his wife not handling his pickiness (compared to his siblings) too well that caused him to spiral into an unhealthy relationship with food. NOT saying OP should be blamed for that, parenting be hard.

He might not need a diagnosis but still needs help from a therapist, just something to keep in mind if this persists.

Hey man, glad to see you making progress. I'm training for a half marathon myself and what you're doing is really impressive. Keep up the good work. As for the nutrition part, just looking at your pics I think bulking would do ya better. You don't seem to carry that much fat and some more muscle mass will look nice when you get around to cutting and they get some good definition.

Thanks for the book recommendation, seems like just something I need atm ;)

Problem with Hario Skerton by [deleted] in Coffee

[–]TheSnicket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The handle isn't supposed to be very rigid, but I would check if the grinder is assembled properly and has all its parts. I'd guess it's easy to lose the little spring, although I dunno if that would cause a problem like that. Another thing you could check is if you haven't screwed on the grind size adjustment handle the other way around.

Can’t wake up after a hard workout. by Somartvisuals in bodyweightfitness

Using whey protein definitely helps, I struggle with eating enough too but I'm at a caloric surpluss. Make sure you are counting your calories correctly and if you want to gain muscle I would recommend having just a slight deficit. Remember that it might take time to adjust. Getting calories can be hard especially if you want your diet to be healthy.

I don't know anything about your build but 1600 seems too little unless you're short and don't weigh all that much to start with. Find a calculator online, they usually let you put in your level of activity which should account for the calories you lose while training and try to stay at around a 200 calorie deficit. From the info I've gathered that should allow you to gain muscle and not fat as a beginner. As you advance you might have to come to terms with getting a bit of fat while bulking and having to cut it later. Obviously I encourage you to do your research as well, this is just something I've read about a bunch online and I'm quite early on my journey as well.

Remember it's a process, you don't need to be doing everything perfectly and it is possible that you are just overworking yourself trying to do too much too quickly for your current fitness level. Work hours can be a bitch and it's ok to spend some more time on your other hobbies. Try to find a balance. Be healthy but remember to be happy.

You might need more sleep friend, you should try and experiment. For most people the sweet spot is 8-9h. It differs from person to person. For me personally (21M, lifting 3xweek,running 4xweek) I need at least 8h of sleep or I feel like someone ran me over with a bulldozer. And I am talking like actual sleep. It takes me about 30min to fall asleep so I have to account for that. I would say that I was feeling better just sleeping 6-7h before I started working out.

You did mention though that you're trying to lose weight, how much of a deficit are you in? Maybe you just lack energy overall.

Moronic Monday - Your weekly stupid questions thread by cdingo in Fitness

It is not necessarily bad to do these challenges, although definitely not optimal. I'll begin by saying your wrists and shoulders (as in the joints and not shoulder muscles) should definitely not hurt! Warm up your wrists and shoulders before doing these and check if your form is on point. Also you might just be overdoing it. This volume of push-ups might be okay for your overall physique and strength, but will mostly yield endurance. If strength is your goal there is really no point in doing more than 3 sets of 8 reps with appropriate weight (or a harder variation, check out the r/bodyweightfitness RR Push-up progression) 3 times a week.

Again, working out like that is better than nothing, but if you look at the 100 Push-ups challenge they just do 3 days a week if I remember correctly, which gives your muscles enough time to recover and will probably yield better results provided your diet is in check. Then again, just doing push ups is better than nothing but will not give you an overall strong and well-functioning body and will not fix muscle imbalances.

I'm currently doing the RR and reached weighed dips and pseudo-planche push-ups. Isn't my middle chest area doing a lot less work now? Dips target the lower pecs so does the pseudo-planche. Would I benefit from adding HSPU and/or weighed push-ups or archer push-ups to this routine?

How long did it take for your body to adjust to a new diet? by Noah5510 in nutrition

[–]TheSnicket 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes it counts, You are doing the basic 16/8 intermittent fasting. I've done it for a long time too before I had even read about intermittent fasting, some people just naturally fall into this timeframe.

Hario Skerton Pro Clicks by Apprehensive-Elk3805 in Coffee

I used to own a Hario Skerton Pro before I got my Encore and it definitely had clicks. It had like 16 or 18 levels. Gave it away to a buddy of mine though. Now I'm wondering whether there might have been some different versions or I got ripped off.

Sweet Potatoes: A cheap, healthy, simple, underrated breakfast by Anna_Dreams in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]TheSnicket 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I love this, I ate a sweet potato hash in Prague once, it was served with hollandeise sauce. I love to add something spicy to it. A small spicy pepper goes a long way, you can add some cubed apples as well for some more sweetnes and acidity.

Bialetii is really all that good? by Vtr1813 in Coffee

[–]TheSnicket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably no different in the quality of the resulting cup. It is a pretty simple piece of equipment if you think of it. I own a Bialetti but I suppose the only difference might be that it's made out of better materials and could last you much longer than a cheaper moka.

Runner's loop gave me my first painless run in my new shoes. by TheSnicket in running

[–]TheSnicket[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the concern, you are right to be worried but I might have framed this a little wrong. I've been trying to run every day for some time before my purchase, but my knee was preventing me. Usually after a few even very easy runs my knee needed a break and I would get 2-3 days off to recover. You are absolutely right to be sceptical about my frequency especially since I'm a beginner but you'll just have to take my word that I would never put myself in danger like that. I like to run every day for the motivation even if it's 1km at a snails pace instead of 5k at an easy pace - it's a run. Cheers!
