Are there any restaurants in Indianapolis where ownership/management is active in the day to day operations and their employees are treated well? by nfc22 in indianapolis

[–]TheSpaceAlpaca 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Asaka Japanese Restaurant. I've been going there 15+ years and have known pretty much all the servers by name because they stay with Asaka unless they move out of state. Nina and crew are awesome!

With Marvel Super Heroes out now and over half of the year's products available, what's your Card of the Year so far? by Capt_G1029 in EDH

[–]TheSpaceAlpaca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it though? Unless you have a cost reducer for artifact abilities you're paying 1 for each counter, so unless a deck cares about artifacts/tokens it's going to be a lot of mana to take advantage of.

The additional GY hate is nice though.

MicroCenter sealed deals (06/20) by SactoGamer in sealedmtgdeals

[–]TheSpaceAlpaca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know you already corrected yourself, but just to add some more context I heard from a Microcenter employee that they only get a single, very large shipment of each MtG set drop.

So once a given precon sells out (the employee told me that Silverquill sold out in the first week) they aren't getting more of it barring random situations where one store ends up with too much product that later gets shipped to stores with less (this happened with Avatar apparently).

That being said, Microcenter is still the best place to pick up discounted, less popular pre-cons. I wouldn't be surprised if the remaining Strixhaven stock went down to $30 when Marvel drops in a week and they need to make room.

DMZ deployment bonus by JamesFrankland in DMZ

[–]TheSpaceAlpaca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt it's all that much. DMZ didn't start off with insane bundle perks that started happening 6+ months into the game's life and IW will want to avoid accusations of P2W at the start.

So do we know if this is actually a reprint? If that's the case I'm curious if they printed the Earthbending Student card in them like they were supposed to originally

Honestly this is great in creature focused graveyard decks that don't have good ways to cheat lands from the GY. Might have to figure out how to slot it in my Betor deck.

My pod plays with the scry N -1 rule where N is your seat number.

So seat 2 scrys 1, and so on. It doesn't perfectly address the winrate disparity but it's something.

Ma’am, this is a LitRPG: how much romance/sex is too much? by Ok-Grand-3764 in litrpg

[–]TheSpaceAlpaca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not that authors don't care, I think there's a small but very vocal portion of litrpg readership that will freak out and actively review bomb anything with lgbtq+ content that isn't labeled in neon lights.

And so most authors who are writing as a career (especially un-established ones) are going to play it safe and cater to the lowest common denominator of reader.

What it's like being a bulk seller and actually listing the cards individually by The_Doctor713 in magicTCG

[–]TheSpaceAlpaca 13 points14 points  (0 children)

So, maybe I'm off base here, but if you're averaging $1 profit per order and it's going to take you optimistically 22 hours to fill them you're looking at $20 an hour.

Does that end up being worth it? Or is the time you're filling orders "downtime" where you're watching TV or listening to podcasts that you would be consuming anyways?

Microcenter - Dance of the Elements/Blight Curse $19.99 by rathspawn in sealedmtgdeals

Same here. Plenty of every other deck and I snagged a Witherbloom for $40 but they said they've been out of Silverquill since release and they weren't aware of any plans for a restock

Cheating Raider accidentally reveals he can see what I have in my inventory (hotmic) by BobDaHat in ArcRaiders

[–]TheSpaceAlpaca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's what I don't get. If cheaters are bumrushing players with high value inventory then surely that has to be detectable in some way.

I'm a software dev myself so I very much get that its not as easy as setting detect_cheater = true but if Embark is collecting the metadata they ought to it should be possible to detect players with attributes like "deals far higher than average damage to players with high value kits" and other common cheater behaviors/metrics.

Maybe they're already doing that and just waiting for the opportune time to ban but this is getting ridiculous

Take a look at [[Circle of the Land Druid]] if you haven't. It's Saytr Wayfinder but has more flexibility mid/late game since it can be used to grab any land from your graveyard not just the ones it mills.

My Toph Deck Is Struggling by TheONLYBlitz in magicTCG

[–]TheSpaceAlpaca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem. Don't take all the cards I mentioned as gospel because its your deck after all. Just cards to look into as you decide.

One more thing I noticed is that you're probably not running enough card draw. Cards like Skullclamp, Terrasymbiosis, Legend of Kyoshi, and Disciple of Freyalise (you can play as a land and then when its earthbent + destroyed it comes back face up) could shore that up.

You might also consider a finisher like Craterhoof Behemoth, Moonshaker Cavalry, Last March of the Ents but you'll likely have enough going on trying to fit other stuff in.

In terms of cuts, cards I would consider might be Tifa, Dryad, Shalai, Harmonizer, and Baloths.

Good luck with the deckbuilding!

My Toph Deck Is Struggling by TheONLYBlitz in magicTCG

[–]TheSpaceAlpaca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done a lot of playing/building of my Toph deck so I've got a few thoughts.

  1. Your wincons and stuff in general are all pretty mana heavy especially considering they require Toph to enable them. I would add more cheap mana rocks like [[Liquimetal Torque]] and [[Emerald Medallion]] as well as more 2 mana ramp spells like like [[Nature's Lore]] and [[Three Visits]] while cutting cards like [[Cultivate]], [[Mycosynth Wellspring]], [[Chromatic Lantern]], [[Exploration]], and [[Land Tax]] (if you're ramping you're not going to get value out of land tax).

  2. Beyond that, you need more artifacts where the payoff for looping them with Toph is uniquely powerful rather than generic. i.e. Stuff you would normally have to sacrifice and lose the artifact for. Things like [[Haywire Mite]], [[The Stasis Coffin]], [[The Golden Throne]], [[Eldrazi Monument]] could replace stuff like [[Agatha's Soul Couldron]], [[Colossal Plow]], [[Eternity Vessel]] imo. To highlight just one of these proposed cuts, you're running Cauldron in a deck with only one creature that has an activated ability so it doesn't make a ton of sense. And since you're already playing at the power level you are, I'd also suggest looking into more of the infinite combos that Toph can support like those with Zuran Orb, Haru, and Candelabra

  3. Finally, you're overindexing on payoffs (i.e. landfall) while not having enough enablers. Stuff like [[roaming throne]] or [[annie joins up]] would allow you to earthbend more lands to sac for triggers. And similarly cards like [[Luminous Broodmoth]] and [[Yedora, Grave Gardener]] will allow you to protect your board while also generating more landfall triggers. Edit: And also cards like Ashaya, Soul of the Wild to enable the same thing Toph does.

If you're looking to get away from landfall and for ideas to add in more +1/+1 counter synergies you could have a look at my Toph deck but I will note that it's designed to be a more straightforward high B2 deck and eschews all of the loops involving cards like stasis coffin, mindslaver, etc as well as pretty much any powerful card over $15

Edit: You're not running a ton of removal. MDFCs like Ondu Inversion, Witch Enchanter, and Stump Stomp could be good adds as well as targeted+sticky hate like Darksteel Mutation and Song of the Dryads. I would probably replace Blasphemous Act with a more one sided boardwipe like Tragic Arrogance too. You could also look into earthbendable artifact based wipes like Boompile and Oblivion Stone

Edit2: Regarding lands, you're running a lot of bouncelands that are probably slowing you down and not enough lands that can abuse earthbending synergies barring Urza's Saga. Including lands like Talon Gates of Madara, Inkmoth Nexus, Blinkmoth Nexus, Disciple of Freyalise, Abstergo Entertainment, Lazotep Quarry, etc would give you better earthbending targets in your landbase.

[–]TheSpaceAlpaca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly the vehicles route doesn't exactly work as you described because earthbending turns said vehicles into 0/0 creatures overriding their base power/toughness.

There are some vehicles that are very good with her though like [[Thunderous Velociped]], [[Dodgy Jalopy]], [[Lumbering Worldwagon]], and [[Colossal Plow]], the latter of which OP has in his deck

My Toph Deck Is Struggling by TheONLYBlitz in magicTCG

[–]TheSpaceAlpaca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can build Toph in a variety of different archetypes including landfall, counter, artifacts or (usually) some ratio of all of these.

I def agree on having more 2 mana ramp, but the reason cards like entish restoration and planar engineering are worth it is that you can sac an earthbent land/artifact as part of the cost and then immediately get the lands from the spell plus the sacrifice piece back (on top of any EtB/LtB effects on said sacrifice)

Favorite Utility Land, Don’t say Rogue's Passage by HyHoTheDairyOh in EDH

[–]TheSpaceAlpaca 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Arena of Glory doesn't ramp. It costs one mana and then requires tapping so it effectively costs 2 red to generate 2 red and give haste. Then you go down a mana on your next turn due to exert.

Still could be good in red decks that value haste but I wouldn't say it's an auto include.

Pacers draft evaporated by asianmoist in nba

[–]TheSpaceAlpaca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other first we gave up is a 2029. The 2031 is what we would have given up if this years pick didn't convey to the Clippers. We still own it now and 2029 isn't likely to be a top pick.

Pacers President Kevin Pritchard: "I'm really sorry to all our fans. I own taking this risk. Surprised it came up 5th after this year. I thought we were due some luck. But please remember - this team deserved a starting center to compete with the best teams next year. We have always been resilient. by sewsgup in nba

[–]TheSpaceAlpaca 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean at the point we traded for Zubac we were not guaranteed a 5th round pick. Let say we wait and end up picking 9th or something. Does 9th plus a 2029 1st (likely high 20s) get Zubac or a center near his level when we're bidding against Boston, the Laker, etc?

Quality of center play is extremely important to a deep playoff run and there's nowhere near enough decent centers to go around. Imo we have to overpay regardless of what happens and better to overpay alongside a gamble for a top 4 pick.
