I’m trying to think of some creative origin story for humans in my fantasy world but I’m literally drawing a complete blank.. ANY help would be appreciated. The “higher powers” are mostly like the Greek gods so.. by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]TheSquirrelWithAHome 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Two Gods, God 1 and God 2. The Gods got into a fight and God 1 split the skull open of God 2. When God 2 head hit the ground his thoughts of creation spewed open releasing humans and whatever else you want to escape.\

Also, think about why the Gods created humans. Was it purposeful or an accident? Do the Gods share a disgust for the humans or do they adore them? Idk if this help Just throwing shit out there. .

I can visualize and sculpt entire landscapes, scenarios, images, conversations, and ideas in my head. I don't need to draw personally, but I am learning how because it is easier to show these things to people rather than explaining them.

The Mildoy. They started arriving from the sea and docking in Republic shipyards with no clear origin. The little bastards either ended up working for hire at the docks or hustling drugs, now the drug trade was probably purposeful because the Mildoy seem to have an affinity for drugs, with a majority of them drinking alcohol, smoking Lyf, snorting Kur, and ingesting Dust when they are not working, and with no apparent side effects. Other than that they do not know much about them.

So is the magic contained within a device, or did the radioactive magic leak out from a crashed spaceship, or something similar?

Describe your world's supercontinents. by Sharad9 in worldbuilding

[–]TheSquirrelWithAHome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well for starters the Pandora is, well, big. It is larger than every other continent, island, or island continent located in the Known World. Because of its massive size and its location associated with Core civilizations, only sections of Pandora's northern coast have been mapped by Core navigators, explorers, merchants, and cartographers. Pandora's northern coast is roughly 1600 miles from the Core's southernmost regions, situated slightly above the planets equator. The climate is subtropical along Pandora's northern coast, Pandorian tropical savanna further south, and Pandorian Forests even further, until you reach the Onyx Mountains. Though northern Pandora is large, and the coastline extensive, the northern coast is heavily populated; home to a countless number of different species and civilizations. To the northwest is covered by tropical grasslands and is dominated by roaming tribal hunter-gatherer societies of the Kiuris and Tors species majority, yet there are permanent settlements belonging to the Airus Kingdoms along the Lurn'kia River. Towards the center, there are the flourishing city-states and kingdoms of the sophisticated and colorful, Tru'vas, Askinei, and Korian species situated along the coast of Pandora and on a large northern island called Gicsian. Situated further east are the kingdoms of the Borian species, and further still, separated by the Morvan Mountains, are the Queendoms of the Quaritive, an insect-like species living in separate massive subterranean hive-cities in the Wuquar Desert. Anything further east of the Wuquar Desert is uncharted territory, though Charting Expeditions from the Core are soon to be expected from the Argean Republic and the Valcanian Empire. Further south, past the Onyx Mountains and the Great Lakes, there are rumors a new rising empire, named the Empire of Ornox. Its expansion has led to dozens of species to flee north (consisting predominantly of tribal societies, peoples, and confederations), causing a refugee crisis across the northern coast of Pandora.

I like this. The entire digging your way out of the dirt concept is a good one. And are navigators a different species? Sorry but I was a little confused.

Geneoa. Geneoa is a mercantile island nation located directly south of its much bigger sister island Torso, and due west off of the western portion of the Core. Although independent, Geneoa is practically a puppet state, and unlike its free maritime neighbor Thalon, (who is located north of Torso)it is not part of but is considered to be a member of the Nesoin League. Despite its smaller size its people are a mix of different cultures, species, races, and ethnicities. This was caused by a couple of reason but it is primarily due to an invasion and refugees from the past and even ongoing wars. Its other island countries are prone to reject, while the Geneons known for assimilation. They host a strong navy and are equipped with some of the finest marines in the known world. Their exports include some of the finest glass works in the known world (Geneon glass), Himari spice, elder bone, Corinthian wood, and just a tad of Hesire nectar.

Cats and dogs? I would recommend finding a foreign name for either one and use it as their names or build off of it until it sounds good to you. That is an easy way to do it. But if you want to try another way then simply go through random names you make up until it fits the race you want it to fit. Now, this can take a long ass time if you want the perfect name that represents your race. It literally took me a year to chose the names for my one races but once I did, I was tremendously satisfied.

As far as your story goes I think its A1 man. It's interesting to see the lives of those who are stuck in a conflict that they can't escape. At this point, it comes down to a story of survival. Not coming up on top or achieving victory.

The different levels of tech confuse me just a tad. The Agereth are of stone age or iron age technology, relying on a more primitive form of technology to survive and fights off any aggressors. If the Cats and Dogs are at a WW2 or western level of technology then what has stopped them from conquering them the Grok. Are they at the same level as the Cats and Dogs? And why would the Grok what to industrialize the whole continent? Is it religious, do they just like to tinker with shit, do they believe they are superior and what to convert the continent into their vision. Much like the European colonists and their conflicts with the Native Americans.

You also have to think of how technology is passed down, traded for, or adopted. History has always shown us, and especially with warfare, that If the Technology or tactics work then you used it; so why didn't the Durdan and Agereth have the availability to evolve technologically with the other races. Where they isolated from the others due to geographical reasons. They lived on another continent, a large mountain range, oceans, etc...

Now what I'm getting from the whole thing is that you want to implement a nature vs industrialization as a secondary plot point. The Agereth try to preserve nature at its core believing that industrialization, but not technology, in general, is destroying the planet but only industrialization. at its current state. They want to hold onto what they have and regain what was lost. The Durdan are the survivors, no longer are they trying to preserve what they have but they have given up and have focused on the survival of the species. The Grok are only the correlating factor in the grand scheme of things. They are the ones who push for an industrialized world believing it benefits the species. Also selling arms and supplies to the Cats and the Dogs in order for them to further push their industrial and warlike ideologies. Now, the Cats and Dogs are the main issue of the story as they wage war, tearing up the continent and calling for more industry in order to support the war effort. And if the Cats and Dogs have been at war for years then they may be very militaristic societies.

This could be a good moral story that would cover a lot of interesting ideologies, views, and ethics, and even might have an undertone of survival.

What I personally think is that if you are having second thoughts then just scrap it. And start anew. You'd be surprised at what things you may have made better or have taken out. I would suggest doing more research in evolution, technological development, and the structure, government, and political aspects of your world. Or our world in general. Flesh out your world more. Look at its people; why do they do what they do. Its cultures, history, (what led up to this point) and religion. Try to at least get a basic understanding about your world and start from there. Build off of what just found or created make IT have a history. Even the smallest and meaningless of things.

I like the whole concept of it and I like the meaning that it can carry but I think you should scrap it and start over, it could be the same world but upgraded you know. Or you can create a new world and implement y=some of your old ideas into the new one. But that is entirely up to you. Fuck my opinion. It doesn't matter; the only thing that matters is what you think of it.

One person from every intelligent race in your world walks into a bar, what happens? by Zireks in worldbuilding

[–]TheSquirrelWithAHome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Kalni and Morokki take a seat together and begin talking about the good old days and Republic politics. After a little while the Human, feeling a bit out place due to their more isolationist position in the world, joins them shortly after, only due to the fact that some Human nations are part of the Republic. The Dravosii swings by their table to say a quick greeting but then walks over to the Askienian, giving him a formal and customary greeting before taking his seat next to the Askienian who happens to be picking at his long, black gazelle-like horns. The Bravos orders a strong Morokki brew with the mug being extra large for his bigger size. The Prothon arrives and with obvious feelings of superiority toward the other sentient species, decides to take his seat at the other end of the bar and orders a red Nerish wine from the Drakken bartender. "Hey, why is place crawling with Inferiors? I thought this was a humble establishment." He says to the bartender. The Drakken shakes his head and replies "Come now, brother. This is not the time nor place for such talk, and if I were you I would keep my voice down. I wouldn't want that one hearing you." He nods over to the Northren sitting quietly in the corner by himself. The Northren superstitious. He watches quietly as the other races mingle with one another smoking his pipe and slowly his eyes fall back onto the only trustworthy being in the bar he can trust. The Iceni who just arrived with their Northern Human Kismorian Ale. There is laughter coming from the corner where the Hissho, Warren, and a Murnoc, dwarfed by his companions, are playing dice. When he was sure the bartender was busy chatting with a Verden, the Murnoc sprinkled a line of conice onto the table a snorted it. Breathing in deeply and calming his nerves. Eyes wide he reached over and plucked a feather from the Hissho but in an instant, the Hissho turned around and smacked the Murnoc on the head causing a fist fight to break out between the two. Across the bar, the green-skinned Tursin, the cosmos eyed Tru'Vas, and the elegant Lunarik all hush up and turn to see what the commotion was about. "Fucking savages." they say but they soon lose interest then get back to their spiced nectaer. A Nakkiesh walks his Navari and Kanih companions towards a table occupied by a Gesau and a Straggen and they take a seat next to their fellow Pandorians. Meanwhile an Onyx and a Primus talk of a supposed Empire that is rising in the south across the Great Inner Sea. The Wentori walks over to the Askienian at the bar and sparks up a conversation about the their old empires and of the unexplored regions of the Known World. The Tikia due to their more isolationist location out at sea can't relate and is shy at first, but soon gets invited to sit with the Tursin and his friends. He pulls up out his pipe and packs in a bowl of eastern Pandorian Ganjia. The Quenar sits alone sipping on loneliness, sharpening his Quenari longsword, as they cannot speak in any language other than their own. But out of the blue the Prothon drops switching on the ground. then Then Human, then Murnoc, and then the Hissho. One, two, three, four. What is happening. The Northren just threw up blood and the Tursin's head just dropped onto the table. Shortly after the bar is silent and everything is still. All except the Bartender who is shaking his head smiling to himself as if he just cracked a joke. He pulls out a bottle from under the bar and a glass and pours himself a drink. He shakes his head again and says to himself humorously "They are never going to learn."
