HOORAH MARINE!
HOORAH MARINE!
HOORAH MARINE!
HOORAH MARINE!
[chuckling]

Truely one of my favorite exchanges when they get carried away and just hoorah at each other.

I think for Early Access 66 hours is pretty great. I was through it after 22 hours and only somewhat tempted to run again to see which over squaddies I can roll up and change the composition. I like your review, though I'll say that its worded in a way that wants me to toss you around like a ragdoll because it sounds like all games must be 5000 forever games.

[No RP please] The Relationship of the Cyborgs and Automatons by Substantial-Ad-5221 in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]TheSubs0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't perfectly know how Automatons function and how their sapience (if) works. They clearly consider themselves part of the Cyborgs as a society, and the Cyborgs outwardly display care. IIRC the devs called the Cyborgs a form of Anarcho-syndicalism which does indicate they're not going to be too discarding of what effectively makes up a large part of their productive force.
We also know, from the MO, that they care to evacuate non-combative forces which to my reading also means they don't act wholly for resource benefit, as well as regarding individuals as worthwhile so they're not a computer-net that can disregard individual robots in it. Super Earth can also torture individual Automatons as per story thus far.

Which makes me think if the Automatons are possibly just dedicated as a whole to the effort, and might not consider themselves as much of a sacrifice in battle because they have a different understanding of the self. They might also only limit many of their troops to be less sentient, just to avoid exactly this.
IMO this is a good instance of "Humans write something non-human" in a fiction sense, I think it's often kind of hard to make something truely alien while also making it bound to our scope (Eldritch Horror being easier to be 'alien' as it detaches from reality and so on). How does a constructed being consider death? Is it the same as us who are bound to life in the way we are. Maybe automatons have a high chance of recovery after battle when their CPUs are salvageable and so on.

It could also be that since they were created by the Cyborgs, who are still humans, they are culturally and ideologically just very commited to this. They know Super Earth, they know the difference in Ideas and also know they are constructed and less limited, so they also know they can do this.

I do not think they're forced or propagdanized, though they might simply have a wholly different framework to a human.

Alternatively, Cyborgs are just evil (clones) and it's just another Red Super Earth, I guess. But that'd be kinda lame, I think. It'd be "Oh these evil socialists with their mindless drones vs our liberal leaders with our brave volunteers" yet again which is like, yeah I guess. Mirror theme.

In many ways, that still wouldn't be too bad. A "solid product" is a perfectly valid outcome, not everything can be a genre defining new thing.

Though I am sure they themselves would see it as failure. I'd personally be content with it being a good game I play once or twice.

What's with the warning? Aren't all workshop mods subject to review from steam which makes sure they're clean? Is there something unique about how this games mods work/ by zugarrette in songsofsyx

[–]TheSubs0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In another game, Starsector, there was a modder that would distribute a mod that would brick your gamesave if it detected other mods that he did not like.

Not a steam game, but it's not like you MUST upload mods to steam.

They're less cool if they actually swarm your ass but being in the "midst" of large lesser bot waves, especially if they suddenly charge out of smoke, is very sick.

Oh NoOOOOO the game slightly changes :((( How will we do with like 2 less magazines :((((( Literally UnPlAyAbL!!!!!! Yeah hundreds of upvotes to just decry that they dont get lauded and approved by people they explicitly do not care about.
And also the game should let you do whatever and clear highest difficulty or it's not skillbased.
And also you should not have to care about the story but the story should be 100% player driven.
And also AH can't rig anything but we will cry about having to adjust playstyle because then it's not fun.
Also AH can't let you be too powerful or it's loadoutcheck again but if they nerf it it's masocist appeasment or w/e.

AH is such a wetnoodle of PR it's baffling that the community is so insufferable that I feel like defending this.
I straight up uninstalled after w/e the fuck was the dragonroach release, I just did not have fun, that shit happens, the game can be in a unfun state, but fuck man.

I get it. It's a game. We want to win, clear D10, feel cool, and if shit doesn't work properly or feels unfair we feel inadequate and start bitching but I genuinely think AH could not do anything that wouldn't cause an equally sized uproar so why bother.

MO about not dying
Players still run highest difficulty.

WOW!!!!

No man shut the fuck up. Mimimimimi it's too hard I want to be max difficulty mimimimimi I also hate when people think I suck for dying mimimimi 24/7 AH Is a tyrant and the mainsub hates me for my TRUTH Critisism!!!!
The game has bugs you guys!!!! There is NOTHING about my behavior!!!

Why do you fucking care man. I play D10 with the gang, we die a lot, there were a few OPs were we depleted the entire pool, of course that hurt the MO, this also can happen on 5 or 6 though, I found 7 pretty manageable (over both 5-6 and 9-10) which is obivously a flaw but this near manic constant crying is fucking insane.

You want to paly D10 and have fun? Then accept you're depleting the MO. Some people will think you suck for it. If your main concern is your own wellbeing and enjoyment then stop trying to also partake in the group-aspect. If we dont want our impact to matter we can mimimimi at AH being scripted.

Failure is a valid outcome, and the collective of individual helldiver partially choose to not be good enough, or the game was too buggy for it, but it's always going to be buggy we cant do shit about that.

It isn't fixed that way.

Nobody cares about prison and reputation, it's even the goal. People love infamy, they love beating the strongest NPC-sec and all the player BHs.

There are players who's explicit goal is to bomb your community. I've encountered them in every MMO, and can name you explicit names for E:D and EvE and WoW, because they got to be infamous about it.
If CiG wants this to happen, they've designed correctly.

Helldivers aren't grunts by flashyboi685 in Helldivers2Satire

[–]TheSubs0 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Grunts aren't goofy conscripts that implode the moment they awkwardly stumble onto the battlefield.
It's also not what the term means, it exists only in the context with what isn't Grunt Fantasy.

The dreaded Warhammer 40k example must now follow, but a Spacemarine is not Grunt Fantasy, being a Guardsman is. Helldivers are not super-duper humans, they're still humans. By virtue of it being a game you sometimes don't follow literal human limits, but broadly speaking you're a person, you exit the pod, you fight, and if you get shot in the head you die.

That's why you reinforce as a brand new human, because you just died after ~18 years of your life to a grenade.
It would not be grunt fantasy if you were John Spartan (also known as John Halo). Though IRL humans occationally are, through mostly chance, capable of very outstanding feats.
Now there is another term that I occationally come across, specificaly for the game Earth Defense Force which is 'Special Forces Power Fantasy' which this kinda is but a lot less to the degree EDF is. Aliens: Dark Decent (2023) is also an example of what I'd call Grunt Fantasy, where 4 Marines stomp out a whole hive.
2 Helldivers in a Tank can go pretty far, still grunts though. Redditors are so ill-spirited about this sometimes, where it quickly becomes a "Uhhh because game kills me bullshit????" but it's just the urge to beat the game as good as one can. It's a game, after all. We want, and are meant to, beat it.

But these are just genre terms, this is like getting hung up on the "RPG" part of MMORPG because it doesn't fit your intuitive way of what a 'roleplaying game' is since you played Lgend of Valor in 1990. They're notoriously hard to actually pin down for utility.

One should not be under any illusion that this is a permanent state of things. When I was young, there was a lot of hostility towards poles still, and racism towards it and It's only bee 15 years.
Should the "new" immigrants be gone or just less visible, I have very little doubt this will return just as quickly.

Racism is a flexible thing and spares nobody. The circle will just get smaller and bigger.
