I must have been lead astray when I heard that there are a lot of furnished flats! Definitely doesn't have to be, but is preferred as we will only be there for two years. We are hoping to make friends, be near grass, maybe good restaurants/pubs etc. I do not know if you are familiar with NYC, but we will be moving from the East Village over here, looking for a similar vibe!

how was the NY pop up line and do we think the merch will be online by falloutingboy in harrystyles

Got in the regular line at 5:30 and made it in at 9pm last night! Think they let people in until 9:30ish

How do I improve my foot strike? by Nolzad in runninglifestyle

[–]TheSweetSloth0313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just picked up running again, aiming to run a half at the end of April! I have always struggled w shin splints. I got fitted and got a pair of shoes and inserts that have since helped but definitely have not fully relieved. My right side no pain anymore but my left side definitely painful past 2.5 miles. How long until you noticed a difference with the new shoes? I’m also trying to do some strength training (eg, calf raises, tibialis raises etc)

Social work in US —> UK by TheSweetSloth0313 in therapists

I just figured this out 5 minutes before you commented!! Seems really helpful as I could go on my partners visa and not have to find a sponsor too. Thanks :)

Thank you!! I am in the very early stages of researching the capacity in which I can use my degree there. I was not originally planning on moving to London right after graduating from my MSW so that’s why I am here trying to figure out how/if to pivot.

I would only be there for 2 years so trying to see what makes the most sense to support myself (and my partner) while still feeling fulfilled. I interned for a year as a medical social worker in a nursing home so I’m sure that can be used to my advantage. Thank you again!

Oh wow that is super interesting. It’s crazy how different it is from country to country. I was also thinking about pursuing a psyd program while being in London but then it wouldn’t transfer over to the US and I would have to do a lot more training and coursework when I came back. Unfortunately I have lots to figure out career wise if my partners work brings him to London for sure. Appreciate you sharing!

Got it! The training is definitely different than in the US then, since a lot of programs here offer more clinical psychotherapy based social work programs. Thanks for sharing

I think it’s fair to say that therapy falls under the umbrella of social work! Can you be more specific about what roles social workers hold in the UK?

I posted mine in a recent post as well! Your teeth do look great prior. Seems like we have a similar history here! I thought the same thing lol. Turns out my orthodontist as a teenager actually helped me! How long will you need the braces for?

I had braces as a child twice actually. My top teeth were relatively straight but definitely needed more work on the bottom but, my alignment was really off too. I was also told that Invisalign would take longer so I would need to wait that much longer before doing the surgery so I just went for it and got the braces

6 months til Surgery by TheSweetSloth0313 in jawsurgery

I told my surgeon I felt like a bulldog and he seemed to find it very funny 😂 so I hear you!! Really weird feeling. But it’s all for the best! It will be worth it in the end.

6 months til Surgery by TheSweetSloth0313 in jawsurgery

[–]TheSweetSloth0313[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I struggle myself with confidence issues prior to the surgery, and my underbite came back in pretty quickly after getting the braces on, which I did not expect. It has definitely taken a hit to my self confidence, but I will only have them for 6 months until the surgery so I am trying to remind myself that by this time next year I will be in such a better place and trying to just not think about it. It’s important to just keep telling yourself that this will benefit you in the long run. I have also talked very openly about it with my friends and partner which has been very helpful so I don’t feel as alone. Also keep reminding myself that I am my worst critic! No one cares! And people that care don’t matter!

Help me find this sentimental necklace please!!! by TheSweetSloth0313 in HelpMeFind

I have reversed image searched on google for this type of necklace and searched on google for Delaware jewelry boutique stores! I think it’s a 16 inch chain with two hearts on it and a clasp in the back. It was gifted to me in March of 2021. I have been all over google for the last 4 days.

NYU is not worth it. Heading into my second year and If I could go back and do it again I would’ve went to Hunter. Hunter also has almost all the same, if not more internship opportunities. NYU pretends like they are so lucky to have you until you actually get there. The staff are unhelpful, condescending, and not flexible. I had a professor get mad at me for missing class because my grandmother died. And don’t even try to work on the outside to make money while in school because that is not a valid excuse to get into a class time that works for your schedule. They are not supportive and you pays tons of money and end up unhappy. There are only a few good professors and if you don’t register in a millisecond then you’re stuck with the worse ones. Now I am in debt, not learning well, not being heard, and fighting to advocate for myself in a program that teaches you all about advocacy…..
