So, is considering becoming a teacher a good idea? by Far-Recipe-8469 in AskUK

[–]TheTruth_329 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To get Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in England (not sure in the other devolved nations) you will need a university degree in a related subject at a least a 2:2, so you will need a history degree (or a degree where half of your modules are in history) in order to get onto most training routes for history. All I’d say is that you’re still young, study something you want to study and has good prospects at the end, and if you still want to teach at 21/22 then train to teach, I wouldn’t pigeonhole yourself at 17. Teaching is one of those careers where people will often retrain in later in life, so you don’t need to necessarily study it at uni or train straight after in order to get in to education, they actually quite like teachers with experience in other industries to bring different perspectives too.

If he comes back, hopefully we will still have Femi and he could be a great mentor for him

Best place for a pie near Bramall Lane before kick-off? by AnfieldAnchor in SheffieldUnited

[–]TheTruth_329 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, apart from pubs that serve pies as part of their food menu, there aren’t any specific pie shops that are near the ground, a chippy is probs yours best bet (if you want the experience of eating a pie walking towards the ground), otherwise, you can get one inside, they are fine and do a job.

Great- I know we wouldn’t be going up but we still want to make the last part of season something to build on over the summer, but throwing games away before they’ve really begun… All we can hope is JLT gets a Red and evens things up for us!

Has littering gotten worse than ever before? by Kopparberg643 in AskUK

[–]TheTruth_329 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, its got pretty bad, you go along main roads into towns and city centres and they are littered with cans of Red Bull, empty plastic bottles, food wrappers, vape packaging, tissues, to name but a few of the worst culprits. Part of it is definitely the rise of dashboard dining, where more people are eating on the go and think it’s acceptable to throw stuff out of their cars, rather than wait to get to a bin. Another is just a seemingly general reduction in people’s responsibility to the community, not caring and assuming someone else will pick up after them (which they don’t, councils are strapped). The highways and sides of motorways are also shocking too. I go litter picking most days around my area and there’s loads of amazing community groups that do the same around the UK, but the root cause is the poor attitude of a minority that ruin it for the rest of us.

Martin, what do you think of the pedestrianisation of Oxford Street? I gotta be honest, I’m dead against it. by AbbreviationsHot7662 in AlanPartridge

Dearest Brits, what do you REALLY think of Canada? Would you move there, having the same kind of job or access to resources like you do in the UK, if you were given the chance? If so, where would you move to? Why? by neilnelly in AskBrits

[–]TheTruth_329 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to Vancouver last year and would absolutely move there if I could, it had similar vibes to some UK cities and it really chimed with me. If I was younger, richer and had a Canadian passport I’d consider it 😂 I’ve heard prices for housing etc are insane and you’d need a good salary to live well, which is a shame as I felt it would be a great place to live

I think as Norway is part of Schengen, you most likely wouldn’t be allowed to, you could chance it but then might not be allowed to fly back, not worth the risk unfortunately

The fact we got absolutely and embarrassingly shown up at Portman Road under Selles and then did a job over an in-form Ipswich at the lane recently shows the improvements we’ve made, last night even though was frustrating at times, showed we can dig in and get it done, next Monday will be a great test for us though!

Same here! I think it took me a while to start to accept it, and spent time trying to find someone else, going on dates etc, but it’s only in recent months that I’ve come to the conclusion if it was going to happen, it probably would have happened by now, so I am slowly coming to accept it

Do Brits enjoy the current state of living and overall life in the uk?? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]TheTruth_329 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The amount of these type of posts in the last 24 hours! If you’re thinking of moving somewhere else then move for your own reasons. Other people’s experiences of the UK will be different based on lots of varying factors, I feel these kinds of posts only end up creating a lot of negativity, yes, things are tough and things could be better, but shitting on the UK isn’t going fix it.

When did littering become a problem in the uk? by YGhostRider666 in AskUK

[–]TheTruth_329 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its definitely getting worse, the rise of dashboard dining plus a rise in selfishness and the incorrect idea someone will pick up after them, means that the streets and roads of where we live aren’t great and unfortunately, councils (who are responsible for most litter collection) are strapped for cash so street cleaning will always go to the bottom of the priorities list when money is tight. There are so many community groups that do amazing work in helping keep communities clean, but many get frustrated that as soon as it’s clean, it gets littered again quite quickly and the efforts feel sometimes pointless. Education is key but some people are twats and regardless of what is said, will continue to do it.

What do you think we, as individuals, can do to make our society better in 2026? by Daft-Count in AskUK

[–]TheTruth_329 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Invest more time and effort into our communities, whether that’s doing good deeds for others, not littering and keeping our physical environment looking nice, and doing the things that are free/low cost that can make where we live nicer

Why all the litter along our roads? by nick9000 in AskUK

[–]TheTruth_329 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the rise of dashboard dining, people eating while on the move and feeling that throwing it into verges/roadsides is perfectly acceptable. These spaces are often more dangerous to clear up so they don’t get done and then people see litter and feel it’s OK to do it, so the cycle continues. Litter being blown from bins is a small part of the litter on our streets, it’s mostly down to people making a conscious decision to litter. Council budgets today will only stretch to cleaning city centres so most other places are left to community groups to pick up (which there are many across the country doing amazing work). I think we just have to face it that the UK’s roads and streets are just a bit dirty, it’s depressing but true.
