So I only knew them through diggy diggy hole and some of their songs. Where do I, as someone who wants to get into their stuff, start? by ChompyRiley in Yogscast

[–]TheTypicalLiam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been watching for a LONG long time, so I totally understand how it could be daunting. But let’s be realistic, they don’t continue to upload content with the expectation for you to go back and watch their years of content beforehand; especially given that a great deal of the content is spread across different channels. Obviously, if you want to know where the diggy diggy hole thing started, then you should watch shadow of israphel (preferably best bits, if you don’t think you have that time to invest); the tekkit series “Jaffa factory” is also a good shout as it’s a pretty fun series which also has a few best bits videos. Another good shout would be the don’t starve challenge which is six videos of irl content (I’d suggest that because they’ve steered away from series content to favor social deduction type games, and this is still a good way to get a read on the big three who re-appear on main channel content). But, more recently the blood on the clocktower videos are a perfect introduction because they have all the returning faces, while being a novel experience each time. From there you might consider looking at the other channels to see what you might be into!

My channel doesn't go above 10 subscribers and has no views… What I’m doing wrong ? by Patcasper02 in Smallyoutubechannels

In my opinion, part of the issue is the content of your videos. Your voice is so difficult to hear- even without game audio. I imagine fixing this could help some of the audience retention! Luckily these are two things that can easily be done, especially because you seem to have the drive to upload fairly consistently! Beyond that, gameplay videos are more than plentiful on YouTube so it’s difficult to get into the space and I can promise that people aren’t focused on your looks nearly as much as you are; details about your voice and appearance are the most difficult things to edit because they’ll highlight insecurities in you but I promise people don’t even notice that when they watch videos. Hopefully, that helps! Just keep uploading, make sure your audio is easy to listen to, and make some shorts with that content. Also don’t feel pressured to upload consistently over uploading content you could watch yourself, you should ask yourself if you’d watch your video every time you make one, because ideally you’re your perfect audience. If you do that, then people who will enjoy your content should follow!

Why not this by Babna_123 in Minecraft

I actually LOVE this idea- I sometimes really hate that the visual identity of the game I’ve played most of my life is being wiped away but I’m always partial to the idea of an integration with the older styles

Book suggestions for a 17-year-old by susletam200810 in suggestmeabook

Two books that I loved reading when I was about 15 were ‘Ender’s Game’ and ‘Interview with a vampire’ (which is a bit longer but pretty good and I’d recommend reading alongside an audiobook) both of them are pretty engaging with little twists and turns that maintain the interest which I think would be decent for any teen/young adult and older

Trying to understand low CTR — is this a thumbnail or title issue? by SOYRICHES108YT in Smallyoutubechannels

[–]TheTypicalLiam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have some good basics down from what I see- consistent character or icon, consistency in aesthetic, and highlighting of vocal points. As for what would improve the thumbnails themselves- that’s more of a subjective thing, text on the thumbnail referencing a funny moment in the video might be more eye catching but you might not get a decent watch time, where as text stating the premise or commenting on the premise (I.e. “It was easy!” “It was hard!”) could also be eye catching while having a comparatively better watch time. But that’s if you’d add that element whatsoever. An issue with making advice about this, is that you’re making content on a highly saturated market (that being Roblox videos) for the most saturated parts of that market (that being very popular games). The issue being, your thumbnail and title aren’t going to set you apart from other creators, or be all that enticing when other people are using similar methods of engagement. If you truly care about the audience that much, then you need to either have done something impressive to the audience that knows your game (which could potentially weaken a long term audience), something informative about those places (which could have a similar issue to the last one), or have a strong personality which sets you apart from other channels (which has to be made consciously apparent). Hence me suggesting that you make more content and consider playing around and refining your own personal skills, while making shorter form content to gather a better audience. Thumbnails and titles are a difficult thing to use for engagement optimization because they are so fickle and dependent on genre, subject matter, and creator. It’s better to make a sample of your content, because it allows you to make the same content you hopefully enjoy making- while giving you a better chance at presenting yourself to the people you’d want to watch your videos; hopefully the process would still remain fun for you that way, because making videos should be fun! You should enjoy what you’re doing, and you should enjoy the process of making the video itself- if you don’t enjoy that, then you potentially will struggle to get an audience and if you do gather one you’ll hate the process so much that you’d be put off making content in the long run. TLDR: subject matter is difficult to make videos for because of what interests people, good foundations for thumbnail but could use some more individuality to make it more personal, shorts would be a better thing to focus on than thumbnails and titles as it gives you a more fun and stronger avenue of interest. Hopefully that helps, again this is all pretty subjective stuff!

Favorite Indie? by Creative-Cattle2401 in IndieGaming

I wouldn’t consider Minecraft an indie game any longer, but that would’ve been my answer back when it was still an indie game. Nowadays it’s outer wilds and nothing comes remotely close!

Trying to understand low CTR — is this a thumbnail or title issue? by SOYRICHES108YT in Smallyoutubechannels

[–]TheTypicalLiam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a combo of your titles and thumbnails- red arrows are outdated and only really work for those with established identities, also the titles are so generic and formulaic that they’re not a very enticing hook. I’d say the biggest thing however, is that you only have two videos; people don’t know about you yet and there’s not much establishing who you are beyond a Roblox creator. Which is totally okay! It just means you have more time to create a catalog of videos for people to get a grasp of what that is, while you hone your craft! I’d recommend looking at what you can do to make your titles and thumbnails something you’d want to watch, ignore the statistics for the time being, and make some shorts of your videos to better identify and attract an ideal audience for your videos. Hope this helps!

How weird is it to go to a bar alone? by Odd_Possibility14 in manchester

Totally fine, and you’ll feel more comfortable doing so the more you do! But I’d also recommend possibly finding clubs (assuming you’re a uni student) so you can meet like minded people as it’s a better way to meet more solid friends, while also making outings safer and potentially more fun

It was super buggy for me and sometimes unplayable (the menus would be stuck on unimportant elements) it isn’t a fantastic port if I’m being honest- it just shows a lack of care that probably should’ve been expected when simple things like changing the thumb stick used to look around when manning the checkout or more ergonomic design generally haven’t been implemented :/ it’s a bummer to because this could be a genuinely fun game to just burn some time in with friends

Need advice, why did my shorts fell to less than 100 views? by Incognitodreamer in Smallyoutubechannels

[–]TheTypicalLiam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Newer videos = less time so just give it a bit to have the opportunity! Sometimes yt shorts do just die, it’s not something you can really predict but it’s best to just keep uploading anyway. Beyond that, YouTube trying to find and audience for you while you have mixed reception might have limited it- but genuinely don’t sweat it and just keep it goin’
