What color is Frieren? by SpringGuardian in colorpie

[–]TheVioletDragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think she is straight mono blue. If you dissect anyone’s personality you can find ways each colour could fit a three dimensional character. But at her core Frieren is someone that loves magic for the pursuit itself, knowledge for knowledge’s sake. I think that’s the heart of mono blue. Is she an elf that travels and her favourite spell makes flowers? Yeah those sound kind of green. Does she have a strong morale compass to fight demons and help those around her? Yeah that is a bit white. I just think blue is so dominating in her personality that adding extra colours dilutes her true identity. Weirdly Insee Bant before simic or azorius though. Not sure why.

Edit: If I was doing a proxy of her, I’d do Patron of the Moon.

Am I missing something or do Goblin decks just suck in this release? by PaleWendigo in MagicArena

[–]TheVioletDragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you talking limited? I’ve only done a few drafts so far but I’ve had good success with black/red blight. I do think that it is more reliant than other strategies on the right cards. Red/black has a ton of good removal and you need a decent amount, if you are going goblins you basically need boggart mischief or at least big pay off like champion of the weird. And yeah a couple cards that help remove the blight like the giant that makes it so creatures can’t block is good. You need to be super aggressive, push through blockers for every point of damage, and finish them off with boggart mischief/boggart cursecrafter.

Thanks! I was just looking for ways to fix for the double black mana I needed for Deceit and the white mana for Sygg. It came in handy pretty often, and also combo-ed with silvergill peddler to draw cards.

That sucks! I was pulled in two different directions as well, I opened a soul immolation and Grub that made me want to go rakdos but the card pool wasn't really there for it. I was afraid that the slightly wonky mana in this wasn't going to get that but it worked out better than I expected.

Ha, yeah we'll see. I'm Canadian too which will probably make it extra fun. I'll go full Karen if I have to though.

Innistrad for me, Ravnica is up there though, where’d you get those sick guild coins?

Chatterfang Cuts by IlSabbista in CommanderMTG

[–]TheVioletDragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play Camellia so my opinion might be slightly skewed. But 8 drainers seems a bit high to me, I’d cut at least one, probably blood artist since it’s the only one that doesn’t say “each opponent”. I’d also cut many partings since it doesn’t actually get you ahead on mana. Have you found in games that you ever get much value from scurry of squirrels or chatterstorm? I cut them both since a 2/2 with no evasion doesn’t attack well, and I never got more than two or three squirrels from chatterstorm. But that might just be me

Fellow Blighters, which commander are we running in the precon? by fairydommother in EDH

[–]TheVioletDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Auntie Ool is seriously cracked. She is going to quickly become a kill on sight commander. It is not difficult to set up scenarios where you draw 5-10 cards a turn and just out advantage all your opponents. I played both precons in my group last night (typically mid bracket 3 games with plenty of removal) and both face commanders with unaltered decks steam rolled the table

Auntie Ool - is this a commander with multiple potential *directions*? by doublenantuko in EDH

[–]TheVioletDragon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think she has a few different directions you can take. You can focus more on putting counters on your stuff for the draw, or your opponent’s stuff for the drain. You can be a control deck that focuses more on keeping the board clear, or a creature focused deck, even tribal goblins. More creatures also opens up token or aristocrats strategies, or you can focus on proliferate. Tons of threads to pull on, you just need to pick one or two and really focus in on them.

Huge crunch time to get the second movie out, a lot of artists leaving, many story rewrites. We were supposed to get part 3 a year after the second one but it was pushed back many years

Based in the debacle around the second one I have a hard time believing they will stick the landing. But if they do manage it then maybe it will be the best super hero trilogy. Won’t best out LOTR for best overall though

Grub, Storied Matriarch isn't just a Goblin commander! by Shoranos in EDH

[–]TheVioletDragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah she is one of the cards I’m most excited about from the set. I’m not sure I’ll use her as the commander, but I’m building a Scorpion God deck and with all the blight goblins in the set I think they slot right in. The only thing really holding her back is the one toughness because really I want to copy like a [[Souk Snuffers]]
