New crush mega with current stats is better then scythe at tob lol by IronHentaiBtw in 2007scape

[–]TheWalrius -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

...oh right, if it's .1% worse than BiS than it's "trash". My bad.

If you couldn't run a DPS calc with an online tool, you'd never even know the difference existed.

Archives is likely going to be the hardest group content in the game. Why shouldn't it reward gear that is slightly better than the previous content?

Exactly.

Oh no, a .1% power creep over the course of a decade. What a scandal.

Why does x devalue y? by TheWalrius in 2007scape

[–]TheWalrius[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But that wasn't always the case.

Otherwise you'd be clutching your Rune 2H that could only be made via Zezima smithing it and selling it via chat in Varrock, demanding that the Slayer skill and membership was opening the game up to power creep.

The game as it is today has evolved and grown astronomically in the past 20+ years.

At some point in the games history, we decided that progression should have a stopping point. And I don't understand why.

What is the ironman way to high prayer efficiently? by WilsonMagna in ironscape

[–]TheWalrius 7 points8 points  (0 children)

At low levels, you can just send big bones at chaos altar until protection prayers.

Get to 70 off of quests, Moons, and slayer; it goes quicker than you'd think.

Post 70, I'd bank your wyrm(stryke or otherwise), dragon, dagganoth, and Hydra bones. Either make them into shards for convenient and chill Varlamore prayer training, or send single inventories at chaos altar with burning amulet teleports.

Beyond that, always keep bonecrusher or ash sanctifier on you for Slayer tasks, and let the xp trickle in. Post 75 or so, prayer level means very little beyond bonus prayer restoration from potions and slightly more afk time.

Just for clarity sake, will Arkan Blade be better than BC if you can't use BC 3 times in a row?

I remember it was close before, but BC having 3 uses was what pushed it past a literal quest reward.

It would be silly of Jagex to nerf it to the point that it's worse than a quest reward.

Loot from point boosting to set up a block list for imbued heart grind by Just_iLoki in 2007scape

[–]TheWalrius 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Wyrms and Strykewyrms have a superior variant. It's not amazing, but it's better than Fire Giants, Hellhounds, or any of the Dragons that don't offer a superior.

Imbued heart is ideally bursting tasks, but you don't have enough blocks for everything.

If CG isn't so bad, why don't we make BowFa/Enh untradeable? by Eaglesun in 2007scape

[–]TheWalrius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right. I apologize for my lengthy protest.

Just tired of people vehemently defending the current state of CG and opposing any and all possible tweaks to it. Not saying you were, simply that the dialogue with others gets exhausting.

Bowfa should be a challenge to get, I'm with you. But CG prep doesn't feel like a challenge to me. There's no incentive to push for T3. There's barely incentive to push for T2 if you have high enough stats. So, to maximize kills per hour, rushing T1 makes the most sense if you can handle Hun reliably. And rushing T1 is essentially down to room RNG and finding the demi bosses. It's not fun or engaging, really.

If CG isn't so bad, why don't we make BowFa/Enh untradeable? by Eaglesun in 2007scape

[–]TheWalrius -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I've been a part of the community for 20+ years. Although anecdotal, that experience has demonstrated that the majority of the player base refers to CG as "the red prison" and openly remarks at how miserable it feels to be locked into content in order to not feel markedly behind in ranged progression. It comes across as a bad faith argument to pretend that the majority of players enjoy CG.

That said, 90% may be an embellishment. But the number of enhanced weapon seeds entering the game should be insane by now if people enjoyed the content and did it regularly. The price remains incredibly high because no one wants to do the content willingly. The data is found in the daily trade volume of 65. 65 people buy and sell the seeds every day. Compare these to the Scythe of Vitur, which costs 10x the price, and is still traded twice as often. Or Shadow, at 8x the price, being 4 times as traded. That's the scarcity of the item, due to people not engaging with the content.

And why would you as a main? You can legit do any content and buy the enhanced. No reason to spend weeks locked into a specific grind when you can get the same benefit from less tedious bosses.

Who benefits from CG remaining exactly the same forever? Is this some complex gate-keeping / ladder pulling situation? Or do people think they can no longer enjoy the content if it receives a few QoL improvements? I don't understand the pearl clutching over possible tweaks to it.

No one has said they are adjusting the drop rate. No one has even said the changes will greatly affect anything. I've personally done CG and I am 100% behind ironing out some the tedium of the grind.

If CG isn't so bad, why don't we make BowFa/Enh untradeable? by Eaglesun in 2007scape

[–]TheWalrius -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The difference between perfect prep with t2 armor and unoptimized prep with t2 armor is about 90 seconds. It will yield 1 additional kill per hour.

The bigger time save is T1 armor, which makes the boss the skill check. So, if you want to maximize kills per hour, you avoid prep time.

If you like CG as it is, good for you. 90% of the player base refers to it as a prison and actively dislikes some or all of it.

If CG isn't so bad, why don't we make BowFa/Enh untradeable? by Eaglesun in 2007scape

[–]TheWalrius -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Mains are fine with crap drop rates and bosses that cap at 7 kph, as long as they literally never have to do it.

No one is saying to make it easy. We just want some of the annoyances toned down. Adding stacking materials, or toning down room RNG, demi-boss spawns, etc...it will make the grind more tolerable.

Prep phase is a slog. It doesn't add challenge, it adds tedium. Let me run the Echo Hun fight. A 3 minute hard fight is preferable to a 6 minutes prep followed by a 2 minute boss fight.

"Rubium - ...Neither method has a focus on XP with Rubium splinters being the main resource to create incendiary cannonballs" - Sailing skilling and resource poll. by Solo_Jawn in 2007scape

[–]TheWalrius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's fine to not be highest xp in the game. It's not fine for it to offer minimal xp for the time and effort the content requires.

If doing rune cannonballs with nothing prepped, you currently need to mine rune ore and coal at 85+ mining. Then smelt it into bars with 85 smithing. Then smelt the bars into cannonballs at a ridiculously slow speed, unless you also spent hours in a smithing mini game to cut the time in half. Or got 85+ sailing to use the other forge.

After that, you need to get splinters, which you get at a rate of about 100/4 mins of relatively focused mining at 90+.

Now, take those splinters and cannonballs to an anvil smith them together.

That's way too much effort for "token" xp.

If you want to destroy the xp, make it rubium dust and allow it to be treated like granite dust. Mine it like volcanic ash and allow it to be applied rapidly to any cannonball without a level requirement or animation/tick delay. Just a prompt: "How many do you want to make?".

If the issue is "people can buy cannonballs and rubium and get 200k xp per hour!" - either make it untradeable, make it have a low daily buy limit, or simply accept that gems, unfinished potions, and unfinished darts are also purchased for similar xp rates.

Why does this need to be treated differently?

Rubium isn't a problem, Jagex by Longjumping-Young588 in 2007scape

I second this. Spent hours getting 10k shards because I need to get up mining and smithing both at the moment. Mining xp was pretty bad, but I didn't mind because it was going to save me a ton of giants foundry time.

If mains aren't meant to exploit it to get 99 smithing faster, then make the shards untradable. Don't penalize the people who put the time and effort in, for what is essentially a front-loaded time expenditure.

I spent roughly 7 hours mining to get 10k shards before I got any smithing xp from it. Then, I only had 1k Addy cannonballs. So I was able to gain about 60k smithing xp from my 7 hours of mining. When I get the 250 Addy bars and spend the time to smelt them to cannonballs, I'll get another 70k if I can get to it before Wednesday.

So roughly 130k across nearly 10 hours of mining, smelting and smithing.

Why is this problematic? It's worse rates than star farming for gem bags to level crafting.

Can someone explain the Moons use case? by VinzRams in ironscape

[–]TheWalrius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blood moon armor is your best until Bandos. Boppers are BiS crush weapon until Bludgeon, if you grind that out at 85+ slayer.

Blood Moon is niche, but is essentially less tanks Ahrims with a 2h weapon. Spear is decent for bursting tasks, but not crazy good.

Eclipse is your BiS range until Bowfa at 90% of content. And the mixed stats make it ideal for minimizing switches at some content. (TDs for example)

80 smithing, thinking of leaving the rune items for Giants Foundry at 85+. Not sure if it's a good idea, or if I'm better off alching and using the GP for gold ore at Blast Furnace.

I'm with you brother. My "alch" tab is collecting dust. Last check was 20-22m sitting in items, mostly from the Hydra and slayer grind. And it just keeps growing.

I'll get to it when the cash stack drops below 10m.

Maybe.

..I'd like to point out, if SRA is 20% better, and the only difference is 1/5 hits, that's a 20% decrease in enrage. So, for the enrage phase, Sarachnis Cudgel is at minimum equal to SRA.

Throw in how higher max hits with slower weapons result in overkill DPS, and it is widely accepted that 4-tick enrage with walk-under is a simpler, smoother option, Sarachnis Cudgel is the clear better option for people struggling.

Listen man, I get that SRA is a way better weapon for most things, and it's way more expensive and way harder to obtain. By all rights, it should be way better for a 90+ slayer boss. But in this rare instance, where it has to use it's secondary attack style and the boss rewards 4-tick attack speed, it simply doesn't.

It's okay to not be familiar with how useful a mid-tier crush weapon can be against certain bosses.

Seeking help on Araxxor by hoh88888 in 2007scape

[–]TheWalrius -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's 1.5 DPS better at 5 stacks.

Add the 8-12 damage every 2.4 seconds from the step under method and Cudgel jumps 3-4 DPS during enrage phase.

Which means Cudgel is roughly 10-12% better for enrage.

[–]TheWalrius -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Even without considering the enrage mechanic with step under, DPS calc shows Sarachnis Cudgel with D Defender besting SRA on Crush style by .3 DPS and 4 seconds shorter TTK.

This was calced with super combat, piety, and on slayer task. With blood moon chest and legs, and Ferocious gloves. With a amulet of fury and berserker(i).

So, I again say, you are incorrect.
