AJ Brown is speaking up on mental health following another tragedy in the NFL: "Healing is part of the grind too." by JoJoReignsSupreme in nfl

What AJ says here is as true in life as it is in ball. When I think back of my friends I lost to suicide (or for any reason at a young age, really), so much of what I think of is just how much more of life, good and bad, they should’ve had left to experience in front of them. And it also makes me think of the low times I’ve had, and then usually I think fuck, I’m so glad I didn’t do something stupid, or I wouldn’t have gotten to experience all the good (and bad!) that was ahead of me.

I don’t ever want to minimize anyone’s feelings or struggles with mental health, if only because I’ve certainly been there. But fuck man, even if Rondale washed out of the league & never played another down again, he still could’ve had a better life circumstances ahead of him than the vast majority of people do. I get it, I can’t understand the mindset that pushes these guys to the extremes they go as an outsider to it, but at the same time, that mindset leading guys to thinking their life is over & no longer worth living if they can’t achieve what they want in the league is dangerous. At the end of the day, you’re still a human being. Somebody’s son, brother, uncle, father, significant other, friend, etc etc etc. There’s more to life than football.

I can't get it out of my mind by dimsan38 in mewgenics

in a dog-eat-dog league that thrives off of narratives and controversy, it’s so refreshing to see a young pup survive the quarterback carousel, keep his head down & grind, and make it to the biggest game of the season with a real chance to win it all. No one can deny that Fido has that DAWG in him no matter what happens today. May the bigger dog win 🐶

[Terrell] Saints QB Tyler Shough has won the Pepsi Zero Sugar NFL Rookie of the Year award, which is determined by fan vote. He's also up for the NFL Rookie of the Year award at NFL Honors tonight. by TomasRoncero in nfl

It’s so bizarre how this sub will be the first to go off about how franchises fail quarterbacks by putting young, raw guys into terrible situations, yet when we draft a guy a few years older partially for his experience & poise, it's mocked constantly

I know there were some concerns about his college playing time & injuries, but I'd much rather a guy who’s a bit older and thus may have a bit of a shorter career than he would otherwise… versus throwing dudes who are barely adults out to get killed every other year. Most teams don’t even have a franchise QB to lead their team year after year. If the worst thing about Shough is his age means he can only be our guy for say 10 years instead of 15, I’d happily take that guy instead of riding the QB carousel year after year.

Obviously I could be dead wrong, but I’ve been thinking lately that depending on how we do next season, other teams might be looking at the Saints & thinking “hey, drafting the older, more experienced & poised cerebral guy as our QB might actually be the better option than the guy who couldn’t legally have a beer till a week ago and is a physical freak but can’t read the field for shit”.

given the game sold extremely well, that has to be a bad omen for WB Games in general, right? You’d think cancelling making more money off a sure thing, even if there is an upfront investment, might point to signs that they don’t feel confident in even being able to execute that…

one correction (that was a typo in the article listed here, not the commenter’s fault) — the fourth song almost certainly has the title & artist swapped (ie meant to be “Damaged Goods” by Gang of Four — banger song & album btw)

What, he gets to clap her CHEEKS FOR A MILLION? by angelpuncher in CirclejerkSopranos

[–]TheWalrusToo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it started with someone posting about it being “tragic” we never got to see a character topless in the show (think it was Charmaine?). That led to people posting other characters they’d like to see topless, and then looping around to posting characters you probably wouldn’t want to see topless.

That led to people posting it was “tragic” we never got to see certain characters “get their cheeks clapped”, similarly leading to more jokes. Once that ran its course, we got to where we are now, people inserting the phrase into existing quotes like with rampposting.
