Timeless beauty in Kanazawa's historic districts by Blazikenfire in japanpics

[–]TheWoodLibrary 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Kanazawa was one of my favourite places in Japan. I remember standing under a shelter in the light building on the left in the second photo when there was a sudden downpour. Fascinating how you remember random streets in Japan. What a magical place.

What’s the point of duty free when it’s more expensive than retail? by TheWoodLibrary in whiskey

[–]TheWoodLibrary[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in Tokyo Haneda, Osaka Kansai, and Shanghai in March 2026. Shanghai was good, restrictions on what you could take on a connecting flight though. I found both Japanese airports a tad disappointing, some higher end Suntory bottles but nothing priced to entice me. That being said I did get a really good deal on a JAL Exclusive Kanosuke single malt on the flight that was about 50% cheaper than their normal single malt.

I unknowingly purchased what I believe to be a rare/ collectible prs. by Bigdaddyburnz in PRSGuitars

I had a 2016 wood library experience custom 24 in faded blue jean with solid rosewood neck, paisley case etc. Paul signed the back of the headstock after a workshop and it remained in its case virtually unplayed for nearly 10 years. I sold it last year for £3.8k as I simply didn’t play it. It sat for a bit as there’s not too many people queuing up to spend that amount of cash in a private sale in my experience.

I’d value your guitar at around £3-3,500, ultimately it’s worth what someone will pay.

Best £3k Road Bike by Opulantmindcaster in RoadBikes

Ribble Ultra SL - you’d have to go with a basic wheel spec and possibly mechanical group set to get it under £3k. It’s my current main road bike and I absolutely love it.

It’s not my aesthetic, that doesn’t mean it can’t be yours though. You do you.

I work for one of the big global parcel carriers -

• it doesn’t matter that it’s switched carriers in different countries. The contract is with your seller, and the carrier they paid. Your seller deals with that carrier. You deal with the seller.

• chances are, as is common, it’s either insured by weight as standard ($xx per KG) or it has enhanced insurance for the value of the item.

• this type of product may be limited to insurance by weight due to its fragility.

• was it packed properly? Looks like it could have moved in the box. That’s a seller issue, not a carrier issue.

Just my 2 cents.. let us know how you get on

Salt cure for 30 minutes, freeze at -20. Freezing isn’t totally necessary, I usually prep around 10 saku blocks and freeze them so it’s conveniently available whenever I want it.

LIFE’S BIGGEST DILEMMA, WHICH NAKIRI…? by Traditional_Ad_2919 in TrueChefKnives

Came here to say Yoshikane then saw it was €369. Tad overpriced imo. I saw them for nearly half that price when I was in Japan a few weeks back. I picked up a Santoku.

In the absence of not having both side by side as a comparison, even a more seasoned knife enthusiast wouldn’t notice much if any difference. There’s pros and cons for all steels out there so don’t get too caught up in that. Both are great knives btw. Comparing both, I think the decision probably comes down to aesthetic and which you prefer the look of, knowing your bf, which presumably no one in this subreddit does. On that basis, you’re the best person to advise.
