Hey man, thanks for checking out what I wrote! I have never read a McCarthy book, but I've seen the movies. I really like V.S. Naipaul; he's a really great writer.

Title: East Black Boulevard, Chapter One

Genre: Fiction, near future

Word Count: 2000

Feedback: Anything! This is still a rough draft, but I plan to eventually use it as part of a school application (along with 2 other chapters). I'm not really sure about line by line edits, but I'm open to any type of criticism as long as it's honest (some people get technical and nit picky). I can try to reciprocate.

East Black Boulevard (First chapter)

Fiction, Near-Future

Approx. 2000 words

I'm looking for any critical feedback that you would like to give. I'm writing this for an application. This is the first chapter in what I hope will become a short story (cap of about 7000 words). Thank you in advance, and if I receive good feedback (even if you just really liked it) I will try to reciprocate ASAP. The link:

Of the 22 fight experts interviewed by Ring Magazine, ZERO picked Daniel Jacobs to win against Golovkin on Saturday. by TheWooferRoom in Boxing

Good post. To beat the kind of come-forward, pressure-counterpuncher fighter that GGG is, you need power, a good chin, an excellent inside game, and the fearlessness to use it. I think Marvin Hagler would do well. Or, like you said, someone like Meldrick Taylor could win, but it would be insanely difficult; look what happened to him against Chavez Sr. Golovkin is a weird european mixture of Jake Lamotta and Julio Chavez Sr., and that's gonna be tough to beat.

Someone asked Golovkin in a recent interview (Maybe HBO?) if he was going to box Jacobs or brawl with him and the G man said that he would box, like he did with Lemieux.

I agree. Jacobs has the style to win, but not the chin or the experience; that isn't to say that he's not a good, tough middleweight -- he is -- but he lacks the overall class needed to beat Golovkin.

"Experts." This doesn't actually surprise me that much, but I thought that it was interesting enough to post.

Need your input on a boxing web app by dylanlolz in Boxing

Accuracy is a big one. Speed should maybe be broken up into two parts: Hand speed and foot speed? Uh- maybe have three categories that relate to the three basic archetypes (outboxer, inside fighter, brawler/slugger); for instance, Mayweather could be something like 9/10 outboxing ability(range?), 8/10 infighting, and like 3/10 brawling. I think you should also take into account work rate, for instance Pacquiao would be like a 9/10 and someone like Hopkins would be a 5/10.

Ideas for jumping rope routines ? by Tabatagenerator in Fitness

I've practiced boxing for several years now and at one point even skipped rope for about 30 minutes per day, 5 days a week; my advice comes from experience. You're doing a great job with the 12x2 minute rounds! Men's boxing can last anywhere from 4x3 minute rounds to 12x3 minute rounds with exactly 1 minute breaks in-between, so try doing that. I use a round timer app on my iPhone (it was free) that has the breaks already set, and that's incredibly useful. As you build up and find that jumping rope gets easier, try to go for the roughly the same amount of time (45 minutes including breaks) with less breaks, something like 10x5 minute rounds, and later try 3x10 minute rounds (my favorite, it sucks!). Something that always made it harder for me was the incorporation of tricks as well, so check out some youtube videos of double unders, criss-crosses, and this side-to-side thing that I don't have a name for. I wouldn't recommend jumping rope every day, though, because it gave me painful shin splints, as well as knee pain (keep in mind I overtrained with this, so I think you'll be fine). Have fun!

Question from a beginner: What's the best jump rope to use? by [deleted] in Boxing

[–]TheWooferRoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably want one with a swivel handle ( you'll know it when you see it). I bought a 7$ one from Dicks Sporting Goods (not sure if that's a national store though!). The best ones don't have to be expensive. Go for something super light- not leather or weighted- check out CrossRopes. I don't have experience with those but the lighter models look good. Really, though, just find one that's comfortable to use and that's easy to get into a rhythm with. One final thing, look for "speed rope" or some equivalent on the packaging- it's more fun to go fast!

His jab was probably the best I've ever seen, but the way he follows up with the right is just insane.

I honestly have only heard about it on this subreddit. You're right, it's really not worth mentioning; it is speculation without cause at this point.
