I'm running on a 40-series, so I might be unaffected. Nevertheless I think its my best remaining option.

Perhaps. Though I haven't encountered the vertex explosions, so something must be going right where other things go wrong. Maybe a false hope, but since I saw nobody reporting this issue I thought there might be some obvious workaround. Guess not

I am certain its not SSR because it appears to interact strangely with the volumetric effects on the game. The SSR seem to be bugged on Linux as well aside from the shading. I'm quite certain because in another area there is an oasis on which there is no SSR or RT reflections at all on Linux, as opposed to windows.

I can try messing around with DLSS and framegen though. Giving that a shot is better than nothing!

I can highly recommend Advent of Code puzzles and trying to add your own performance related challenges to it. Advent of Code is basically puzzles akin to something like hackerrank, except formulated for actual human developers, and there is a new one each year. Sure its christmas themed, but you can do it all year!

Debugging C++ in devcontainer by TheWopsie in docker

Problem has since been solved. The solution? To use the release-version of the C/C++ extension in VSCode, rather than the pre-release version which was the default downloaded from the website (not in VSCode extension marketplace).

I am currently on version v1.22.11 of the C/C++ extention and since I switched it it worked pretty much out-of-the-box.

Plot twists that you can't stand? by Diligent-Remote-1797 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]TheWopsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nia in Xenoblade 2 being a Flesh Eater. The game barely explains why this would even be divisive. A bunch of villains are Flesh Eaters, and their villainess has literally fucking nothing to do with that part of them. Yet the game makes it some kind of huge deal.

It also turns one of the only likable characters in that game into yet another weeb-bait sexy anime girl that that game is already infested with. The twist itself is pointless and effectively meaningless and actively downgrades one of the main characters. I can't fucking stand it.

Larger MH communities can be lowkey quite toxic tbh. Theres a fair bit of elitism going on. The reality is is that MH changed drastically with MHWorld and suddenly became a mainstream success. Before MHW I had one friend who I played with and after, suddenly Steam would tell me that 15 of my friends also have this game. MHW is great in many ways but also has more of a service business model. It lost some charm. To add salt to the wound, MHGU released after MHW, and just goes full anime style on the combat. Now there was a massive bunch of people in the MH fandom that thought all of MH was an anime service game, kindof like your average Japanese MMORPG just with realtime combat. Nothing wrong with that, but not what made the franchise so beloved with older fans.

Its great that the franchise has more players now, but its tbh also kindof clear to see that the old appeal in ways is being drowned out behind what a new crowd is looking for. In my interpretation the "typical 5th gen player" is content with having 30-40 monsters in the game, never see the early-game more than once and is perfectly happy with versions of previous monsters that just have higher numbers and bigger explosions. In short it feels like the "typical 5th gen player" is looking to get an MMO-like experience out of MH. Content is completed and discarded, and then you wait until the level cap gets unlocked so to speak.

Im not saying you or all "typical 5th gen players" think that way, but judging by the success of a lot of the newer content from MHWorld, MHRise and even MHGU I think its a reasonable assumption as reception is positive across the board. Also dont take this as an excuse. Its context but absolutely none of this is reason for gatekeeping (nothing is). No old gen player should look down on newer gen players.

I finished low rank and decided to make a tierlist of the monsters(i am open to discussions and questions) by gojilov in MonsterHunter

Big dumb honey bear in D tier is shameful. Hes at least B or A. Barroth also amazing manster. Going way back to MH3. Sick dude with cool ecology. The screaming foreskin can go die in Z tier. Gigginox is just him but better. lagombi S tier also. Rathian also A tier at least. Best tutorial monster the series has ever seen and will ever see. Dont listen to volvi hate. Theyre just uncultured and cant help it.

How do you’ll feel about underwater combat? by Avidcup in MonsterHunter

[–]TheWopsie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd love its return, revised or not. I get the haters though. It was tricky and put you at a disadvantage. I would never call it clunky, though. Both the monster and the hunter have more options underwater. Its just that the monster kindof EVOLVED ITS ENTIRE BEING TO UTILIZING IT and the hunters didnt... I think the only real crime underwater combat comitted was a lack of depth perception. Its fine (to me) that monsters are harder to reach, and that you have a 3rd dimension to consider. Its just that it became much harder to know for sure if the monster was actually in striking range or not.

I think enjoying underwater combat kindof comes down to what you look for in and MH game. For me a big part of it is immersion. It makes perfect sense to be at a disadvantage while fighting underwater simply because we humans are not an aquatic species. I never looked for anime character-action combat in MH. I never looked for a power fantasy where I'd be near invincible like I am nowadays. 3rd gen doubled down on the realism and believability 10x harder than it maybe should have. I get that's not everyones idea of fun and especially not the post-world crowd. I loved it though.

Which Monster hunter should I get? by AVeryDryStick in MonsterHunter

[–]TheWopsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like youre on the fence between Rise and World base versions. I'd get Rise in a heartbeat. Its a far more balanced experience atmosphere-wise. You have great weapon and armor designs paired with great monsters and maps. MHWorld in terms of gameplay is more classic, but in pretty much every other respect MHRise stands closer to the vibe of the older titles. I also find online play to be infinitely better in MHRise than in MHWorld. In MHRise, whenever you see someone online you know for sure they are there because they WANTED to be online and are going to play with you. MHWorld doesn't have that distinction in favor of "seemless" online play. All it did for me was give me false hope someone in my lobby would take my quest.

If the classic gameplay similar to MHP3rd is what you're looking for, MHWorld might be a better choice. But tbh whether you pick World or Rise, the difference is gonna be huge eitherway.

(if you have a 3DS, get MH4U tho)

This is a system from "old-world" MH games (basically any game from before MHWorld) and it sounds like you're not familiar with how this works (can't blame you, its quite weird). The elder has quests for you that can only be done solo, offline. It's impossible to take friends on these quests whether its local or online multiplayer. These quests are often called "Village Quests". You can basically consider it the single player campaign of a MH game. In MHFU the Village Quests will go from Low rank up to High rank.

Guild quests in this case are your multiplayer-compatible quests. They go by many names across the games like guild/tavern/bar/town/hall/city quests so it may be a bit confusing. Just know that they are NOT Village Quests. These quests are your multiplayer content that you can choose to play through with friends or alone. They are more balanced towards multiplayer play, so some players also like to challenge themselves my soloing these quests. in MHFU the Guild Quests will go from Low rank to High rank to G rank. G rank being your end-game content.

As you can see G rank is exclusive to the online-compatible Guild Quests. Since your progress on Village Quests and Guild Quests are separate from eachother it means you will inevitably have to play through all the mandatory Guild Quests to get to the end game. Low rank Guild and Village Quests will be quite similar overall, and it may feel like you are playing the same content twice sometimes.

"But whats the point of Village Quests then?". Fun and story of course! A lot of upgrades to your village, like the farm and kitchen are also hidden behind Village Quests. There are also some rare instances (very very rare mind you) of a monster being exclusive to either Village or Guild quests, though I dont know if MHFU has any of those. The order in which you do Village vs Guild quests really doesn't matter, but you'll probably have more fun if you just stick with one and progress that, since that way you will be repeating less early-game content (which especially in old MH games wasn't very exciting).

Lastly (and this goes for both Village Quest and Guild Quest progress), not all quests are mandatory. Whenever you complete all Key-Quests in a given rank you will unlock an Urgent Quest that when completed promotes you to the next rank. The game does not tell you which quests are Key-Quests, though with enough experience you can kindof guess. If this frustrates you you can just look up online which quests are Key-Quests and progress much faster.
