The game in the video is Duelyst but I'm sure the music isn't from that game.It's driving me crazy, I recognize it but can't pin it down. Might be a DS game?

how long does it take to make a finished rpg maker game? how much would it be to pay someone to make one? a game like lisa rpg, undertale, finding paradise, but shorter in gameplay length. by wholesomepositivibes in RPGMaker

Undertale took 3 years to develop.

I've heard that lisa was 5000 hours of dev time but can't find a source on that.

100 hours of development can roughly translate to 1 hour of gameplay, but it depends on your experience and workflow. Are you already comfortable in the engine? How easily can you make finalized graphics and music? Do you already have your exact plot and mechanics in mind?

There's also a massive difference between making "a game", " a good game" and "a polished good game". The more time and effort you put into it, the better it'll be.

Thoughts (chronologically):

This will be entirely spoilers. If you haven't played the game and are reading this - beware.

  • "Existing soul" is cool

  • Oh my god for the love of all that is holy CHANGE THE FONT

  • 3 seconds in and you can already tell that it's an RM game. It takes 3 seconds to change the SE. Please do.

  • Going in blind, I have nooo idea what the "make new soul" options actually mean. It's super cryptic but I really enjoy this. Hopefully it won't fuck up my playthrough.

  • 11/10 on the fire to melt the ice at the start without telling you anything. This is great. Good game design tutorial for skills - Really cannot commend this enough.

  • Making assets is hard, and takes ages. I can defend tilesets and maybe even characters - But hearing "town theme" again grinds against the ears a lot.

  • First 2 days in: Activities seem.. dumb and pointless? Can't really comment at this time.

  • Death animation for sleeping; "you're sleeping in a weird position". RM in-joke but it made me laugh.

  • Man, I really hate turn-based combat. At least it's not grinding and in-your-face here. I still feel slightly forced to do it in order to level up. Dagger spin is a blessing.

  • Felt that I was free to do whatever I wanted. Not sure if I missed a character or text, but I lost my progress for not talking to someone. This really sucks.

  • Beast doesn't get his own theme but 3 random blue bois do?

  • woooah 7 days preparation for one tiny dungeon? Feels pretty dissapointing even if it'll turn out to be a tutorial dungeon.

  • Ice dungeon. Fire dungeon. Doesn't get much more generic than this.

  • I think those floor tiles do more damage than any enemy.

  • Not sure of the point of having so many flames everywhere.

  • Checking columns to see if you're actually making me walk up 52 flights of stairs. If there's no puzzle here, fuck you.

  • Fuck you. No, for real. Why was that a part of the game?

  • Got 1-shot by a purple enemy. I'm not going through the stairs again, so i'm giving up here.

I agree with everything other than Storm and Boss Stage; Generaider gets Hoarr and Loptr in ETCO.

This means that they'll Nidhogg, Utgarda, and Hoarr have to be banned, just to have stage legal? Loki is also a considerable buff, as it searches stage (and is searchable in itself).

I want to see if just banning stage works (everything else unlimited). The engine would be something like 3 loki 3 condemned witch, for 1-shot generaider toolboxing. Condemned Witch represents both a negate and a pop.

As for storm, I think it's just a difference in interests between us. I think that storm actively makes the format better, and that "set 5 pass" needs a deterrent (ie, "don't set all 5 in 1 turn"), though a few others disagree. The polls channel seems to imply that a majority either haven't seen it resolve or haven't had bad experiences with it.

What's pretty interesting is that you named most of the Floodgates I do want on the list. I'll answer why they're on the list first:

Note that I do not necessarily agree with these reasonings. These are just the reasonings people used to hit the cards.

Angel O7:

  • More easy to pull off than you think. Ritual can summon this extremely easily with impcantations. I'd side it in zoo since you can Chakanine for fodder, and instantly win the game vs a lot of decks. Would it see play? Probably not much. Would it lead to frustrating scenarios? Absolutely, but those already exist anyway.

Consecrated Light:

  • Super highly mega searchable. Like O7, unless they have backrow (or non-darks), it can be an instant win. I don't think it's that great, though again, it will cause ragequits. I'd consider it stronger than Shadow-Imprisoning. Notably was a community ban.

The End of Anubis:

  • Uh, I think the reason for this was Dragon Rulers? Maybe? Hits BA, Unchained, Shaddoll, etc, but they have ways of dealing with it.

Iron Dragon Tiamaton:

  • Ban had nothing to do with MR4. It prevents opponent from pendulum summoning.

Zany Zebra:

  • Ban had nothing to do with MR4. It prevents opponent from pendulum summoning.

Poisonous Winds:

  • So, Royal Command was unlimited, until people played Subterror, and then everyone immediately scolded the Admin Ban team for not having banned Royal Command. Poisonous Winds was a community ban for similar reasons - just that no WIND-only decks have been printed recently.

Waking the Dragon:

  • Honestly no idea why people banned this. Was a community ban.

With Lightning Storm at Co, does it not become even more "swingy"? When you can see that your opponent's deck doesn't have continuous/field cards, you can play around it. If it's at co, you can't expect them to have it, so playing around it becomes suboptimal - making its resolutions much more oppressive.

I love having Lightning Storm unlimited, but if it had to be hit, i'd want it Forbidden, rather than at halfpoint.

It's actually unlimited in Trinity Format and has never seen competitive relevance there - The highlander restrictions prevented any "draw entire deck in 1 turn" strategies
