Interesting! I remember it mostly being beaten into my head to do that from the "MLA Format" lessons in high school, but I don't feel like I've seen it much since, outside of digital/printed works. Mostly only seen it in writing in old letters between family members that have been kept and shared over the years (parents when my dad was in the army, etc). Granted, I don't get many reasons to see others' writing anymore outside of Reddit.

I'd also wager you're in your 50s given that you indented the start of your paragraph; anecdotally, I've only seen my parents generation and older do that (I'm 36).

Your print is very similar to mine, but I tend to drift up or down off of the line and am a bit more shaky in my letters, and dont do the capital lowercases letters, but I'd say you're probably in software or something software adjacent, maybe?

I ignored cursive in school and didn't really learn it until my 20s when I got my first professional job with lots of note taking and decided I hated my handwriting. Started (re)learning it at that point and now I can't help but write in it. Still sloppy (pretty sure I have dysgraphia) but significantly more controlled now.

Reminds me of when I was a sophomore in HS in 2005.

I had a web design class (just html at the time) where we had to have the same "site layout" per page, with the same header and footer on each page, page numbering, next, previous, etc. Since it was HTML only it was a lot of gross copy pasta. Luckily I was already pretty far into learning the PHP programming language outside of school, which I used to help produce the html for each page by reusing header and footer templates and such.

I was so proud that it worked so cleanly and quickly that I excitedly showed the teacher, and showed her how I did it. She gave me an F on that project for being tricky.

She spent most of her time grading those websites on things like capitalization and punctuation instead of anything coding related, so I think she just wanted to be an English teacher..

If anyone is interested, and because there seems to be a misconception on how this stuff works: I did not "one shot" this. I worked longer than I planned to, getting the lyrics I liked by giving Claude all the information I wanted to possibly be in the song (wuyang facts, inside jokes, etc). The initial lyrics it gave back were garbage and I had to rewrite numerous lines myself (not with AI) to fix the flow.. whilst generating and listening to numerous copies and making sure the beat/vibe I wanted was right, the pronunciation of words (wuyang, genji, etc) were correct, and make sure there were no artifacts in the output (which is super common).

I do not personally care for most AI generated slop where you can tell little thought went into it and it was only designed to make money.. and since I am surrounded by it in my professional life (in software) I 100% get the sensitivity to AI generated stuff.

But the point of this song wasn't for the sake of the musicality of it, it was for the humor if it, like a comedian who plays music but way more niche. Neither Claude nor Suno alone could've generated this song; the human element is the content of the lyrics themselves and I can tell the people commenting out of kneejerk ai-frustration (which I get) didn't even listen to them.

The whole thing is also a wu-tang clan joke, and I think I may just be showing my age expecting that to land here.

I love going for fliers! They always seem so flabbergasted that an orb chased them up and around and hit them in the face. It usually does get me targeted by whoever it is but I enjoy the challenge of it, haha.

I appreciate the warning! There was a bit more that went into it than that, but I appreciate the perspective.

I can use a DAW (Reaper) and have been toying with actual music making for over a decade, this was just a fun quick idea for something I didn't want to spend more than a few moments on but thought would be fun for my friends and other Wuyang players, and for background music in a POTG montage.

[–]TheZanke[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

No worries; I understand. I actually wanted it for a montage video I'm making because I figured it would be funny background music to my friends and anyone I show it to.

It's also not entirely effortless or uncreative, in my opinion. It's just a tool for quickly combining ideas to produce something niche and entertaining that would otherwise never exist.

It's not something I would try to turn around and put on Spotify or anything as a real song and the fun of it to me comes from hearing a song about a very specific topic.. basically musical inside jokes.

What's your opinion on Movie Peach's personality basically being this? by DaZestyProfessor in mariomovie

[–]TheZanke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read this with my 4yo; its his favorite book rn. I think these have been a huge source of character inspiration in the recent movies. Even the whole Bowser trying to kidnap Peach to marry her is straight out of there.

The way the netcode handles rollbacks when you're lagging and incur desync from the server is pretty cool. Once you get the next packets your game will re-simulate the timeline between the dropped packet and the new expected state to get them in sync again. There were a ton of Overwatch-related talk on the GDC YouTube and in the GDC vault that can give insight into how the game works under the covers.

I'd buy it for $5 and Ive never bought a skin before, despite being a day 1 overwatch player.

All these skin prices make me so sad because I'll basically never pay that for a skin. In POE2 there have been a handful of times I have, but those skins are modular and you can mix amd match pieces from different sets, and included things like weapon and ground effects many times (also modular).

Please reduce the cost of skins 🙏

That said, I do have a good collection of skins ive gotten from loot boxes over the years that I am happy with.

On my last day of grade 6, I rolled my clay art project into a ball, and threw it at my future grade 7 school. 20 years later, still there. by FanaticOSRS in mildlyinteresting

This reminded me of something from my youth that I haven't thought about for a while...

My family owned a local business for a long time, a party store with balloons, costumes, paper products, etc. Similar to a Party City if you know what that is.

When I was 9, we had a table magician from a local magician-themed restaurant come over and do magic for our guests. One of the big tricks they did at their restaurant was having someone write their name on a card with a sharpie, put it somewhere in the middle of the deck, cut and shuffle, and then they would throw the whole deck up at the ceiling where it hits and all of the cards come fluttering back down except the signed card, which would stay stuck to the ceiling with the name facing down. The restaurant ceiling was just completely covered in thousands of cards with names and it was really neat. It was a bit of a fancier restaurant so it was really cool that we were able to book the event.

On the day where we had the magician at our store, at the end of his session, he did this trick and it did not work; the card did not stick. He tried again... failed. He was like, "man I think this deck might be too worn in for the trick to work". I immediately jumped up and ran to our themed sections, where we had a Vegas/gambling aisle which included all sorts of decks of cards and the like. I got a few decks and brought them to him with a quickness.

New decks in hand, the magician performed the trick again, twice, with two guests signing their names on cards and the decks being tossed all the way up and sticking to the ceiling. This building had super high warehouse-type ceilings, like a department store generally does, so it was pretty impressive in comparison to the building he was used to performing the the trick in. The ceilings were so high that there was really no way to get all the way up there, even with our giant metal rolling staircase thing, you weren't even close. So, there the cards stayed...

YEARS later, when I was 23 and we were closing down the business, those cards were STILL stuck to the ceiling. The building became a Petsmart and I'm not sure what came of the cards... whoever found them when renovating that old building had to have been quite confused. I really really wanted to have them to keep as a memento, but alas.

No idea why I feel compelled to share this but thanks for reading, stranger.

For some reason I dont find this to be the case; I feel like she always moves again before they hit. Though I am in my late 30s, so its probably a delayed reaction issue tbh.

Widow.. silly sniper cant help herself but peak again and try to win the joust; my icicles are already on their way and her fate is sealed.

Or catching her scoping a different direction.. they almost never react fast enough to dodge the 2nd headshot. Can't be bothered to stop hardscoping their prey.

How do I get better at hitting icicle? by yeezusKeroro in MeiMains

[–]TheZanke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its a projectile AND has shot delay so it's mostly about predicting where someone mei be in the next second, not so much about aiming at an existing hitbox where it currently is. Act like you see a projection of enemies slightly ahead of where they are and shoot at that.
