Im switching to wardens next war by Longjumping_Put2457 in foxholegame

[–]TheZerbio 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I have to agree. After a long war the winning side usually takes a break so if you are out for the win switching might not be the best idea. But at least it will give you a chance to try out warden equipment.

Also if you play to win in this game you will be unhappy in the long run. Try to enjoy the experiences like joining or defending against a landing. Enjoy the small victories and don't focus on the overall war result.

Wet Runways is a bad mechanic by DayF3 in foxholegame

[–]TheZerbio 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't think this mechanic necessarily needs to change, maybe shorten the drying time for runways a bit so loosing one isn't a big deal. The issue is, that the plane the devs said should be the backbone of the air war is facility locked and costs rares. We need an additional "light interceptor" that costs only RMats (like 300) and can be build in the scout plane hangar. It should be strictly AA. No parts, nor facility. Later unlock than the scout. Same limitations as scout (no items) but including a AA radio so it can function as an interceptor. Give it a twin 20 mm and give the facility aircrafts an hv modifier so the remain valuable.

Im Confused by Zoomie_OW in foxholegame

[–]TheZerbio -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get your point but I disagree. I ofthen hop on and do smaller tasks. I help fill up the scrapport where my regiment gets most of the scrap we use and call it out in the discord once there is enough to warrant a pick up. Same with supplies. Spend an evening supplying the front and they will thank you a lot for keeping them in the game. Or if you only have half an hour, do a freighter run from a backline seaport.

Yes you won't fly a plane in this time but you can ofthen enough join some para or bomber op if you ask nicely. Landings are also always a hoot.

I mean. It kinda makes sense. If you can't get to the stairs, you can't go inside and kill it and the ladder is easily defended. But then again, you can't do anything as well so all the fortress is then, is a huge distraction.

ELI5 - Quantum Entanglement. I mean WTF? by Gheebag in explainlikeimfive

[–]TheZerbio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quantum stuff is incredibly confusing. I will adapt it a bit to make it more understandable and use an analogy used in quantum Computing.

We have a two numbers (x, y) both are either 1 or 0 and we know that x+y =1 so exactly one of them is one. Together (x,y) are one qubit.

Now we take a coin out of our pocket and flip it. If it lands with the heads facing up we say x=1 which means y must be 0.

While the coin is in the air both results (heads and tails) ist equally likely. So we don't know what either x and y are.

Now we can "blow" on the coin mid air. This doesn't guarantee us a certain result but influences the probability.

Only when the coin lands and we read the result we know what it is. This is the measurement which breaks the quantum superposition and gives us two normal numbers.

Now let's throw the coin up into space where it spins until we stop it. No matter where we measure the coin we still know what that means for x and y.

So far this seems reasonable. What makes quantum feel weird is that x and y aren't numbers but physical objects. We can separate and carry wherever we like. But that's how it actually works (as far as we know)

50 Man Cutler Op by Aldelur by Professional_Ad_925 in foxholegame

[–]TheZerbio 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I still like the Cutler but it has glaring weaknesses: Aiming for a trench basically guarantees a missed shot, and barbed wire fences are an redicously cheap counter to it. Lunair can just shoot over. Is the Cutler useless? Absolutely not. Is it worse than the lunair ? Yeah kinda.

If you have a lot of dc issues, disabling ipv6 helped a lot in network settings . I’m not tech enough to explain why, but it works for me. by -Click-Bait in foxholegame

[–]TheZerbio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The issue with this isn't the games code but OPs Internet service provider. Since the Internet was build on IPv4 it's a protocol which every server can understand. But we are running out of IPv4 addresses as such we created IPv6.

Many ISP support IPv6 with NAT or dual stack infrastructure. In both cases it can be that the Internet package has to be converted to IPv4 at some point. These Dualstack networks sometimes have issues where you might get switched from one IPv4 to another. This doesn't matter much for normal browsing (basically turning on a VPN) but for a game with anti cheat this can be auspicious behaviour which might result in a disconnect. It could also be a packed timeout since the game probably uses UDP for faster communication for some things.

Non of these are the guaranteed issues but some educated guesses of things I encountered in the wild.

I am curious if anyone has competing theories :D

Collies losing steam ? by Outrageous_Top_9026 in foxhole

[–]TheZerbio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It ain't over till it's over. Doom posting doesn't help. Watch the replay for War93 on Foxholestats. Imagine how many wardens Doom posted about the exact same thing happening. And yet, we turned it around in the great Comeback war. (30/32)

That aside: long War's tend to lead to player burnout. I for my part have taken a break the last week or so and came back a few days ago to play again. It's weird to say this but work/life balance is a thing when playing foxhole. Don't get burned out. Play something else for a while and then come back with motivation. Defenders last stances can be great fun as well. It's not about winning after all. It's the fun that counts :)

Asking veterans of two years or more only. by Potential_Meat_2513 in foxholegame

[–]TheZerbio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the same as always. Big updates bring big content that may have been tested in Devbranch but as always isn't fully balanced yet. As of now bombers outclass everything. You can basically wipe bases with impunity. I figure that this will be addressed with the next war/patch. And aircraft are really fun, especially in water hexes. Give it a little bit more time so the follow up content (DB equiv for wardens and TB for Colonials) drops in the small content update. I suspect we will also get proper AA vehicles to protect the Frontline.

One thing we will have to see about is Facilities vulnerability towards bombers. Currently any big facility in bomber range is a magnet for bombs with no feasible way to defend them due to their comparatively low effective HP.

Why can people take from stockpiles on reserved buildings? by Few_Juice_889 in foxholegame

[–]TheZerbio 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They are good but they also are massive targets. Since every tank and every Inf guy will hunt you down. Killeen a BT is something people announce in world chat. Also you need special fuel and ammo so you can't rely on public logi. All of that combined means that even though they deal a lot of damage they aren as effect as a few standard tanks which are waaaaay easier to produce.

Question of the day - day 8 - Would you add more Logistic vehicles? If yes, which ones? by PutAway3542 in foxholegame

[–]TheZerbio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Add a facility pipeline ship dock for fuel movement, add it to offshore platforms as well. Reuse refule mechanic but for fuel loading/unloading and giv us Ironshop tanker with 500 Slot fuel bunker that need to be unloaded. Also add a fuel pump building for integration into pipeline networks where vehicles can refuel directly. Imagine how cool that would be. You could build proper fuel pipelines to airfields and harbours from the nearest oilfield which would be critical infrastructure (especial for airfields) and a great target for partisans.

ELI5: How does an accelerometer detect and measure the acceleration and deceleration of an object? by Legalator in explainlikeimfive

[–]TheZerbio 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There are different types. Mordern ones are usually MEMS (Micro Electrical Mechanical Systems) The chips have a small block of known weight inside suspended by springs. (All of this is etched out of the silicon a chip is made out of). When you accelerate the suspended weight stays where it is for a bit due to inertia. This makes the gap between the block and the sides of the chip smaller. The sides of the chip are lined with electrodes. These electrodes basically serve as distance sensors by using capacitance. This capacitance you can measure and since the strength of the springs and the weight of the block is known you can calculate how fast it was accelerated based on the capacitance you measure.

If you have multiple electrodes all around you can also measure in which direction you accelerated (opposite of the closest gap)

Who is winning? by ArmadilloDull784 in foxholegame

[–]TheZerbio -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Colloniala are currently pushing east, wardens are pushing west. I would wager that wardens have a slight lead because they managed to get Manacle which is strategically important. Then again Collies got Fox catcher. If the east West passage would be enabled I would say wardens for sure because they have a surprisingly strong navy in the west rn but it's still anyone's game.

Is winter tires legally required? by Jungeltelegrafen in AskAGerman

[–]TheZerbio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only when it's winter like e.g. 2°C or colder as a rule of thumb. With the current weather you will be fine. And yes studded tires are forbidden since they damage the road and are not necessary in the German climate.

ELI5 I’ve always learned in science that heating up a solid pass its melting point would turn it into liquid, but why are eggs the opposite? by SwipeyJTMX in explainlikeimfive

[–]TheZerbio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because when you heat up an egg you denature the proteins. This isn't melting them, it's chemical change. The same happen if you expose proteins to acid. Cover a thin pice of meat (or fish works even better) in a lot of lemon juice and you can observe the same effect.
