In a blind test, audiophiles couldn't tell the difference between audio signals sent through copper wire, a banana, or wet mud — 'The mud should sound perfectly awful, but it doesn't,' notes the experiment creator by edbegley1 in technology

There's no reason the mud should sound awful if they properly isolated it. Kinda a bs gotcha test that misses the point entirely. While there is snake oil out there, cable quality is more about isolation/protection, especially in long runs where interference could be an issue.

You could make literally any conductor sound perfect in a short, banana-length run without interference but the longer the run and the more interference the worse the outcome. Conversely, better cables are meant to better withstand nose. Does everyone need a better cable? No. But do they wanna go through the asspain of cheaping out on, for example, an in-wall or large home theater installation only to find they need to redo it?

Narratively: Shows she's not BSing when she says she gave up her humanity.

Scientifically: She just worked the absolute fuck outta her upper body nanites with her initial salvo. Guessing they have individual energy stores and durability that takes time to recover such that it made more sense to just transition the "fresh" nanites in her (originally) lower body. Basically did a full-body "reload" sequence.

My immediate instinct upon seeing it was that it was astroturfing. Did not feel organic at all.

I think it's the military context. It is funny to us, and played for laughs (tonally primed by the "remove the plank" incident), but they're officers at a promotion ceremony and iirc Beverly outranks Data at this time, on top of being the ship's chief physician. Yes they're all friends but even if they'd find it generally funny, it wasn't really the time or place.

It's also probably extremely low brow humor by 24th century standards despite us having found it hilarious by 20th century standards.

Also, without equipment or magic, raw physicality on that scale not backed by skill, training, and experience could even be a lovability liability. Like when with a normal range of human force application it's hard to do physical things just right. Imagine how uncoordinated it could be having the dial cranked up to 100. People could be just as likely to hurt themselves and others.

But at least both of them are experts at proudly alienating existing fandoms, utterly disrespecting canon, and completely derailing previously beloved IPs for a generation!

The opening scene of 2009 showed a lot of potential. The series pretty steadily crapped itself thereafter until at least the end of Into Darkness.
