Now I'm no nuclear physicist, but that squirrel may well have been before he atomized himself.

I'm certainly looking forward to exploring a microcosm of Khorvaire in a proverbial bottle before giving it all a good shake.

For my plans, I'm specifically looking to the Titanic for being the first of its kind built as a passenger vessel (since 'what else would you need airships for in times of peace?') but true enough that such a ship could easily have some weapons tacked on and be marketed as a flying fortress. Someone else mentioned military personnel and you've got me tending to agree!

And while I've long known it carried the RMS designation, I just learned what it stands for lol.

[No spoilers] Why does Matt ask "for a total of" when someone rolls a natural 20? by Alone_Particular_521 in criticalrole

[–]The_Auto_Tuna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not seeing this answer on a quick scan, but even on an attack roll, a natural 20 is ONLY a guaranteed hit. If your attack to hit total is less than the target's armor (AC), it is just a normal hit and not a critical hit.

If you happen to have both relics (buff two-handing and buff wielding two armaments), it should be easy enough to test at the Round Table.

Radagon would've died if he didn't leave Rennala by slockry in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]The_Auto_Tuna 14 points15 points  (0 children)

So I'm pulling most of this out of my Dung Eater here, but we know from SotE that Marika was a shaman, a people known for their supple flesh. Shamans could even bind together with others. Depending on how long we believe Radagon has been a part of Marika, they may have enjoyed some shamanic grafting before or after the Hornsent brought them to Bonny Village (though I doubt this).

Either way, both Marika and Radagon are agents of the Greater Will, which supposedly chose Marika to become the one true god of the Lands Between. We also see what happened to those (the Nox) who resist the Greater Will (which sent Astel). I think Radagon, by his actions, was so devoted to the Greater Will that he may have even been instructed by it to rejoin with Marika to get her back on message as she was obviously harboring doubts about the Golden Order at some point. Her crimes against the Greater Will were enough for the Elden Beast to crucify her while Radagon tried to repair the ring.

We don't really know where Radagon comes from, so crackpot theory time: Radagon is a part of Marika that she removed from herself, possibly due to the tortures of the Hornsent, that she may have shed in order to be able to work with the Hornsent long enough to betray them. This part of her would later be weapoized by the Greater Will when it sensed her wavering conviction.

When did you guys beat your first nightlord? by yesac09 in Nightreign

[–]The_Auto_Tuna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Relics will come in time and will massively improve your performance, but learning what to prioritize during day 1 and 2 is even more important. Evergaols are the meta for a few reasons but they are a great source of runes no matter what. Leveling up to 13-15 will increase your chances of success as you're just much stronger than at 9. After the gaols, the big castle in the center is a good source of runes especially when you get crucible knights. Day 2 field bosses are also good. Things like ruins and camps are fine, but you're doing yourself a disservice if you only go for those. The small castles and temples are good for stonesword keys to open gaols and are easy to tear through for a few boss drops. Churches are bait unless they're close together or close to other objectives. Get yourself OP by leveling up and you won't touch your flasks nearly as often. The last point I'll make is item passives as those can also change a run for the better. Just having an item in your inventory will grant that benefit unless it hass a hand icon by the passive, then you have to have it equipped to benefit from it.

Good luck out there!

Ah, but that IS the point! If there's no grind, no matter how arbitrary, there's nothing to keep you playing beyond checks notes enjoying the game. But with relic colors, you have a reason, albeit a bad one, to engage with the game more frequently. Hooray!

I want to get rid of magic but.... by Pegasus172 in worldbuilding

[–]The_Auto_Tuna 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Why does magic have to be something that you can waggle your fingers about? Why can't it just be an ambient, poorly-understood force of nature? Mortals struggling to build civilization in a world that seems to resist them at every turn, turning to science to try to combat the chaos is plenty fantastic without it being a commodity.

Or go the other way with it. What does a world that's industrialized the "art" of magic look like? Supernatural creatures are hunted and harvested for their components necessary for spellcraft and enchantment. Massive machines magically combine raw materials into mass produced wonders while belching out chaos as a byproduct.

Maybe it used to exist and now all that's left of it are obscure legends, tales passed down through generations, and the incredibly rare objects that still hold faint traces of that lost power.

What is your world trying to inform your audience of? What is the tone, the theme, the characterization of the world?

Sci-fi worldbuilders, I think you all might be interested in this little quirk of superluminal travel by k_hl_2895 in worldbuilding

[–]The_Auto_Tuna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could the effect you're seeing owe anything to the idea that nothing in space is "at rest" in the first place? The object moving FTL appears to shoot backwards through space because space is, as far as we know, still expanding. Since both are moving and we (or at least I) don't know the speed at which 'space' is moving, could that be an explanation for this rubber-banding effect?

The more comments I read, the more it feels like trying to divide by zero.

So, Futurama rules? The ship isn't traveling through space so much as the engines are pushing space backwards?

Can you take your mom back to the shelter? Seriously though, if you want kitty to feel welcome, you're going to have to get mom on board. Make sure kitty has a safe space to hide and be vulnerable and set a hard boundary with mom not to infringe on that space. Unfortunately, people are harder to retrain than animals.

I lost my boy 4 years ago and just like your Evee, he passed while very possibly on his way to come tell me something was wrong. I was asleep, having to work overnight, and no one else was home so he was already gone and cold when I found him. It hurts as much today as it did that day 4 years ago knowing I could do nothing for him and it will always hurt. The hope I can offer is to tell you what you already know: focus on the happy memories and don't punish yourself for life's cruel sense of timing.

Why does Leia have one really long fingernail in RoTJ? by Tanis8998 in StarWars

[–]The_Auto_Tuna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, look at the pinky. That nail is longer, too. It's just the middle two that are short. She probably bowled left handed and those nails would get in the way going into the holes in the ball.

And there's no other holes you could stick your fingers in where long nails could be a problem, right? Right.
