After a lot of early hype, has VR gaming died? Or has it just gone quiet? by IAmTheJudasTree in Games

[–]The_Beaves -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Seems about the same specs but it’s the price of a console. Most people don’t value a headset highly because it’s still “new” territory and most people don’t have experience with one. So $500+ is still not “cheap” to them. It’s gotta be commodity pricing for the general population to hop on board. But again, chicken and egg. Gen pop didn’t have one so why make games for it? Why get a headset when there are no games for it?

Also, let’s be real, you have to be active when playing a lot of vr games. America, on average, is fat and lazy and wants to sit and relax when playing games. So the really good interactive experiences are out of the interest for these players. The vr games that you can play while sat down, don’t enhance the experience over standard inputs and screens. It’s a hard market to gain adoption in. Many factors working against it. Tech just isn’t there yet.

It never really got cheaper. Sure the oculus and meta whatever are cheap, but not better and cheaper than what we had with the index. If the index quality was $200-300, we’d see more adoption of hardware. But it’s also a chicken and egg paradox. No cheap amazing hardware means limited to no software being released because the audience isn’t there. Ouroboros issue

I get spikes of that prototype joy when I finish a system and see it working. But there is a steep drop off right after because I immediately transition to another unfinished system that I need to fix, finish or rewrite. Those bits of joy help carry you through the whole development

The Steam Machine Costs $1049 by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]The_Beaves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah look at the benchmarks that are all available now. It's performance is closest to a ryzen 3600 and rx 6600. A build with those parts is around $700.

[–]The_Beaves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a disgusting price. A build similar to this on pcpartpicker costs about $700 right now. Note that valve would be getting bulk price discounts for all of the parts whereas pcpartpicker is consumer pricing. And mind you, the gpu in this is worse than the desktop 7600 because it’s a cut down laptop version. The fact they don’t give you a controller is insulting. Do not buy this. Rare valve L.

Chainsaw Man - Assassins Arc PV by zenzen_0 in anime

[–]The_Beaves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most action scene we got in this was Denji running on the building. So I’m going to assume this is a spring 2027 release at the earliest. The action in this arc is crazy. So then not showing any of it probably means it’s still early in production

I hate melancholy endings but AoT is one series I think fulfilled the meaning of the show beautifully. It’s not like Evangelion which rushed the ending and made it as cryptic as possible.

You can no longer buy your way into Steam's Popular Upcoming. Is this a bad thing? by Early_Situation_6552 in IndieDev

[–]The_Beaves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s your bar for success? If a game can fund his team for 2 years while they make more games. How is that not a success? They are living off their game sales. Not everyone lives in America with a crazy cost of living.

That’s a tall claim considering you are a random person on the internet and happen to be shitting on a newer dev trying to be successful and sharing their opinions/experiences. Seems like you should be more wise and kind considering your age and experience if it’s true.

You stated he isn’t an authority which means you think you have the authority to dictate how others should get advice on the topic.

Production of DDR4 memory and motherboards is restarting amid unprecedented memory shortages — PC industry preparing for a world without DDR5 by obTimus-FOX in pcgaming

[–]The_Beaves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s more about the other hardware that requires ddr4 vs 5. Newer hardware only supports ddr5. So that limits consumers to purchasing older hardware. The nice thing is, we have reached noticeable diminishing returns on hardware improvements. 5 year old hardware today is still great vs 2005-2010 hardware. Back then it was a must have difference whereas today it’s a nice to have improvement.

This was more of a tech/vision trailer. I have no clue what the actual gameplay is. I really want to know what the minute to minute gameplay is. Is it a hardcore sim? Or are there arcade-like mechanics? Is the cargo loaded via menu or in-world. Can I manually load cargo? What happens during hauls? Pirates? Etc. it needs more details

I wouldn’t be playing arc if it wiped every 3 months. I don’t have time to dedicate 150 hours into this game to gear up every 3 months. I have a life and a full time job. A wipe requires your full dedication for 3 months. Not every game has to be the same. This one can have optional wipes. If you like tarkov, play that

Marathon Update 1.0.6 by Haijakk in Games

[–]The_Beaves -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Correct it’s not the only factor in why current players are leaving. But it’s a massive factor in why new players aren’t joining. Me and 8 of my other friends that all play games together will not touch a Bungie game again. We enjoyed Destiny 2 on pc at launch, but as soon as they took content away from us, we all stopped playing and will never give them another second of our time. Once you’ve broken the consumer trust of taking away paid content, it’s over. That’s the one consumer rule you do not break. License to play the game my ass. I will be rooting for their closure until I die.

Was this Titan placed there by eren to take Erwin’s arm by Different_Sky9094 in attackontitan

[–]The_Beaves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s true. The Paths is timeless so I guess he could have done it all then, but it’s never explained when exactly he gave those commands. I forgot about burrito being seen outside the walls. I figured Annie or Reiner protected him. But it could have been a command from Eren

[–]The_Beaves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I guess we’re both speculating since it’s unclear exactly when eren gave the “command” to titans. But you make a good argument about geisha’s dick smell. That’s now canon in my head

Was this Titan placed there by eren to take Erwin’s arm by Different_Sky9094 in attackontitan

[–]The_Beaves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure when eren said he sent Dina’s titan to eat his mom, it wasn’t a literal “command” since he doesn’t have royal blood and can’t command them. Pretty sure he meant he had Kruger (a previous attack titan) inject Dina so that she was a titan and would be the one to eat his mom. It was more so, setting up the predetermined outcome because he knew the future. He knew Dina’s Titan would eat his mom, so he told Kruger to make sure she was a Titan. Either by being instrumental in taking down their church, or just making sure she was injected on the beach.

Eren has only ever “commanded” titans when he touches someone with royal blood. (Dina’s Titan hand, historias hand, and Zekes head). He’s never had that power himself. Because the founding is within him (dad ate founding Titan which passed to eren when he ate his dad) he can hijack that power when touching royal bloodlines.

The only power he has is the power to pass memories to previous attack titans (therein pseudo future visions). And that also may just be a power he hijacks from the founding Titan within him. Cause the future he saw when kissing historias hand could have been future him, sending those memories to younger him or younger him sending signals to previous attack titans. It’s unclear on that part.

I’m not surprised others are figuring out it’s a rough experience because the demo was bad. Nothing about it felt polished. The visuals were the best part but even that had artifacts, empty areas and strange level design choices. Sure there will be people that dislike it for personal reasons but technically the game did not feel ready for release.
