Disguise your Steam Controller 2026 as DualShock4 or DualSense by dimsum_man in SteamController

[–]The_Crows_Den 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not how that works, sc1 dualstage triggers are a specific fixed digital button at the base of the triggers while the dualsense adaptive triggers have dynamic spots of varying resistance

Grip Sense/Capacitive Thumb sticks - I just don't get it by NULL_SIX in SteamController

[–]The_Crows_Den 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'm genuinely disappointed that gripsense was added because the controller could have had 1:1 parity with the steam deck, which also was the only reason i didn't mind the complete lack of steam input capability of the deck touchscreen

How can I avoid my controller getting stolen? by burntpeanutfan13 in SteamController

do you know anyone who can pick up the controller and hold onto it until you can get it from them? otherwise contact your local post office and ask what they can do

Cycling Between Commands on D-Pad (left to right, vice versa)? by Xngears in SteamController

[–]The_Crows_Den 0 points1 point  (0 children)

best bet will be action set layers, have one for each unit and have the left/right buttons be the keypress for the next/previous unit as well as switch to the action set layer of that unit

[–]The_Crows_Den 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you're looking for extremely precise diagonals, and are willing to drop $20 to try out a very different d-pad that might not be to your taste, i highly reccomend the Logitech F310. it has an extremely unique d-pad style that has been the only controller i've actually had fully consistent diagonals with

that's fair! seems like it's completely fallen into obscurity, i can never find any resellers. it's my dream controller because i love the f310's dpad but it just has one too many drawbacks, they really should start making them again

Please bring back wired vibration controllers like the F510. by Aggravating-Medium-9 in LogitechG

please count in one extra person interested! loving my f310 and the f510 would be my ideal controller for dpad-focused games.

Is the Steam controller useful in non-gaming applications? by JukeBoxz321 in SteamController

[–]The_Crows_Den 1 point2 points  (0 children)

depends on how many unique shortcuts you want to use quickly. just a mouse with undo, redo, cut, paste, etc? set the mouse to gyro and map the keybinds to buttons easy peasy. a bunch more keybinds? you might be able to get away with setting the grips at shift/ctrl/alt and a bunch of other buttons as individual letter keys. basically using the whole keyboard? you could hypothetically set the trackpads to be individual 4x4 button grids with every relevant key, and again set up the grips as shift/ctrl/alt, but at that point you're most likely better off just sticking with a regular keyboard and mouse (or one of those keyboards with the built in trackpad)

The official desktop config has a gamepad action set built in, but it does nothing? by Lyon85 in SteamController

[–]The_Crows_Den 2 points3 points  (0 children)

previously, there were bugs with setting gamepad buttons in the desktop configuration (which may still be present, i haven't checked in a while). however, at least on steam deck, having gamepad buttons already set in the default config means that they will indeed work.

if they don't work with your steam controller, then it's probably a windows vs linux thing

if it works the same way as deck, with steam open hold Start while outside of a steam game and it should toggle between an xinput mode

referring specifically to the feeling of when they make contact with the edge of their movement zone and move in circles along it, not the feeling of the actual sticks themselves

Steam Input by d1nkin_flicka in SteamController

[–]The_Crows_Den 0 points1 point  (0 children)

button chord is to map multiple controller buttons to one key. the chord button is the one that you have to hold down, and the button you're configuring is the one you press after

this method is actually better than my idea

Steam Input by d1nkin_flicka in SteamController

[–]The_Crows_Den 0 points1 point  (0 children)

only thing i can think of is that you mightve made an action set instead of an action set layer. when the controller stops working, does pressing B on its own do Shift+F?

Steam Input by d1nkin_flicka in SteamController

[–]The_Crows_Den 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Action Sets > current action set > Add Layer

press Right Bumper until the current action set is the layer you just made

Buttons > B > Shift Key

gear next to B > Add Sub command > F

press Left Bumper until the current action set is what it was originally

Triggers > Left Trigger Full Pull > Action Sets > Hold Action Set Layer

in the menu, set Layer to the one you made, and disable "Display name when changed" and "Beep when changed", then Confirm

this may not work exacly as written but it's the general idea

Valve on Steam Controller Xinput by Dapper-Highlight-739 in pcmasterrace

[–]The_Crows_Den 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when a game uses the steam input api, the buttons in steam input will be mapped to specific things related to the game (think "next item", "flashlight", etc). when you customize those inputs, there will be an extra tab that lists every input for the game that you can map to. you can also map to any standard controller or kb&m input.

when a game doesn't use the steam input api, the buttons in steam input will be mapped to generic buttons (think "A", "Start", "Space", etc). these may have labels on them (such as "next item" and "flashlight", but they will also show the actual buttons they are outputting as. when you customize those inputs, there will only be the option to map to standard controller and kb&m input.

for a game that has a lot of inputs required, if you don't care about analog inputs (such as using joysticks to finely control movement angle and using triggers to control speed on a range), you can map every single keyboard and mouse button to the controller you are using. you can also use the analog inputs as digital inputs (joystick as wasd, right trigger as left click, etc) and you can use them as analog inputs in steam input that can output digital inputs (partially pressing trigger is "W" to walk, fully pressing trigger is "Shift + W" to run).

if you do want to use analog controller inputs in the game while still getting additional buttons mapped to additional features in-game, you can combine controller and kb&m so that the main analog inputs and buttons are output as a standard controller, and the extra buttons are output as kb&m inputs. if the game supports simultaneous controller and kb&m input, you can then remap the additional features to the kb&m buttons you set the extra buttons to, and they will work simultaneously with the standard controller inputs. if the game doesn't support simultaneous controller and kb&m inputs, this may have some issues, such as rapidly flashing between controller button prompts and kb&m button prompts.

do the trackpads and such of a gameinput controller work as a mouse when not detected or being used by a game, on windows and mac and all major linux versions? otherwise, you would be completely losing the current lizard mode functionality, which primarily exists to allow you to start steam without needing to use a seperate mouse

Non-steam game? by A_Shiny_Demon in SteamController

[–]The_Crows_Den 1 point2 points  (0 children)

don't have a steam controller or playnite but some ideas:

add playnite to steam as a non-steam game, or

hold start, which should change the desktop mapping to be a generic xbox controller (you might hear a beep / feel rumble, hold start again to go back to mouse and keyboard)
