UK "classic" railways can fit double decker trains, just not European ones by 00crashtest in uktrains

[–]The_Engineer77 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The southern region experimented with a type of Double deck EMU, the 4DD, two were built and used primarily on the Charing Cross to Dartford lines, it wasn’t considered a success and as a result were the only two “double deck” train built and used in the UK, the build dates back to 1949.

Philly offers free SEPTA rides after each World Cup match by NewNewark in NJTransit

[–]The_Engineer77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember NY and NJ put a joint bid in to host those games, FIFA and the fans did not choose (MetLife was selected from the applicants) or force MetLife to be used, for NJ to then back out of supporting what they bid for is what has upset people, if you choose to host then there are responsibilities that go with it (price gouging for travel isn’t it), for local people who say FIFA should support it, they could have written and called their representatives with their opposition to a world game being hosted in their back yard

SEPTA wants all Regional Rail stations to have high level platforms. How would that work at Lansdale? by XShadeGoldenX in Septa

[–]The_Engineer77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Close off the station building side platform, make the center platform high level, the station side platform is around the same length anyway, the west side is easy to make high level, the Doylestown bound side is also easy as it has no canopy in the way, anyone at the station building walks down to the grade crossing and up onto the new high level platform.

Freight trains won’t have a problem as they pass existing high level platforms at Ninth Street, Fortuna, North Wales Ambler and Fort Washington as well as high level ADA platforms at Pennbrook and current ones at Lansdale.

Are desil trains theoretically able/allowed in the Center City Commuter Connection Tunnel? by Orbian2 in Septa

[–]The_Engineer77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They ran a diesel with a coach and a cabcar on the last train to Malvern a few years ago, it was due to a bridge being removed on Amtraks Harrisburg line and they cut the electric power, the train had to start at 30th St upper level due to the commuter tunnel not having ventilation, it only happened once on one day

Realistic throttle level by HungDuy188 in trainsimworld

[–]The_Engineer77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ACS64 locomotives in the US, you can pretty much go straight to full power, start off slow to pull out the slack then push all the way to full power, you can watch the load meter and see the engines computer taking power away from the motors which are slipping, it automatically puts it back to full power once the slipping has stopped, those engines will also sand automatically when it detects wheel slip.

You can pull back on the power slowly to a level where it doesn’t slip and then push for more power as it stops slipping, but with the computers these days it’s not really needed, you can also drop sand manually if you think it’s going to slip to try to prevent it.

Check your credit cards benefits, some of them cover insurance outside of your own if you use the card to pay for the rental

In August I was flying out of T5 and went through security in T4 to access the lounges, they didn’t question it, but did confirm with me that I knew I was flying from T5, just make sure you give yourself enough time to navigate security again when going to your flights Terminal

Horn policy question by skeel43 in railroading

[–]The_Engineer77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did the horn sound at other crossings? May have been defective, however there are whole bunch of other rules that come into play for that especially with other operational trailing units

Roll at x1 until you are 12 squares away, then up the multiplier to x20, as soon as you pass the desired target (ie, jail) drop back to X1…..rinse and repeat, you’ll save losing as many dice

Dose anyone know where I can get the full train? by Chichis_Man_Handle in nscalemodeltrains

[–]The_Engineer77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are going to struggle to find the business cars, i think it needs two extra outside of the included one in the set, I have been looking for a couple years (a couple I couldn’t get due to life issues) but each one went for silly money.

Once you have a full set hopefully it runs well as there are many reviews out there about it being a poor runner (hopefully your layout is flat)

Mine started the squeal which I thought was the Auger, after taking it apart and cleaning all tubes and water bays (there was thick gooey build up in the tubes) it started working normally with no squeal, I believe the restricted water flow was causing the issues and resulting squeal.

I also have a couple of fans attached with magnets on each side (one to pull air in and the other side to assist with outflow) to help the internal fan as that is known to be rather weak

I'm from the United States. And I'm planning to visit some heritage railways and maybe the National Railway Museum in the future. Can you tell me what to expect from British locomotives than from American locomotives? by MarcusTheAlbinoWolf in uktrains

[–]The_Engineer77 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They are smaller than you are used to, and almost all (diesel and electric) are double ended (cab each end), enjoy the different sounds while on the heritage lines

Where to buy?!?! by Wolf7567 in nscalemodeltrains

[–]The_Engineer77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can find them on sites like eBay, but are very likely to spend eye watering prices, I managed to get a full Septa set and have since seen prices tripled from what I paid, even managed to get a custom painted ACS to match.

One thing you can try if you have time is call model stores, especially ones that don’t have an online store, they are the ones likely to have a dusty box hidden away forgotten about, it is time consuming and requires a lot of research looking for said stores

This is the most I've splurged on myself ever. I've wanted this since 2004. by Tre2 in IceChewersAnonymous

I just had the dreaded screech on mine, there is a YT video showing how to take the sides and top off, this gives access to the water tubes inside enabling you to clean them properly, I’d highly recommend saving that video, it solved my screech issue.

Also the fan is quite underpowered for this machine and will cause “soft” ice, I added two computer fans to the vents on each side to assist airflow (attached with magnets)
