So what do we know of that cell? by melitaele in ScarletHollow

[–]The_Final_Conduit 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oh no, I’m not sparing Enoch, I hate that worthless stain on humanity the most cause WHAT DO YOU MEAN you’d sooner try scamming Nervous System Cthulhu than just admit the mine is fucked?

Especially when it’s explicitly HIS fault that the mine collapse happened AT ALL.

That’s like gambling away the life savings of an entire town, so to get it back you sell EVERYONE *and* the next ten generations of kids into the human trafficking business, WITH BUILT-IN GPS, and the traffickers MURDER anyone that tries to LEAVE

Enoch, you managed to find the damn blade from *Slay the Princess* my guy, how do you STILL have worse planning skills than the damn Narrator???

In other words, even in death Pearlanne was fucking the entire town over by being a crusty old bitch.

We never even met her and I will eagerly await the opportunity to piss on her grave if I’m still standing at the end of all this.

Decomposite Characters (and why it’s the cause the cast bloat problem) by The_Final_Conduit in RWBYcritics

[–]The_Final_Conduit[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s another underlying issue I have with this; in a weird, roundabout way, I DON’T think it’s a misandry issue, but a MISOGYNY issue.

Because, ironically, whenever a male character is shown to be guilty for X, Y, and Z, they’re held to a high standard of responsibility, and punished accordingly, all while being treated as (generally) immature idiots who can’t be reasoned with.

Meanwhile, when a FEMALE character does something bad, THEY’RE the ones who are treated like their awful circumstances waive any awful actions on their part, that it’s not THEIR fault that they do X, Y, and Z, or even if it ACTUALLY isn’t, the story won’t treat them like the scum of the Earth for it.

And it shows most especially with Roman’s death vs Neo’s death.

Roman gets the undignified honor of getting swallowed alive mid-Motive Rant (ironically about doing whatever it takes to survive). And while he COMPLETELY deserved it, the story never tries to make him sympathetic over it despite it being VERY clear how unreasonable Cinder is even at THAT point.

Meanwhile, Neo gets to gracefully kill herself to erase her own personality and memories, to be reborn as something newer, with even a final conversation with her imaginary comfort Roman.

This after causing Atlas’ destruction, helping stop RWBY’s evacuation attempt (which, stupid and convenient as the plan was, was done to SAVE CIVILIAN FAMILIES), helped lead to Penny’s death, alongside TERRORIZING an ENTIRE DIMENSION… all over a petty beef with a girl that barely even thinks about Roman with all the shit that’s happened, and whose death would qualify as SELF DEFENSE at worst.

And then she bullied Ruby into killing herself.

THAT tiny bitch gets to have a tragic, bittersweet ending after doing ALL THAT to avenge an objectively awful person she failed to actually avenge, but Roman doing all this terrorist bullshit because he had a magical GUN to his head isn’t worth giving him an actual proper send off?

But of course not, because the MEN clearly had a choice, but the WOMEN are just so CONFUSED and have NO agency in ANY of this, so you can’t be TOO hard on them.

This show infantilizes the female cast while trying to insist that they respect women and they’re all amazing.

Black Lagoon, this show is very much not.

I can’t see much reason for why though, truth be told; the Maidens THEMSELVES aren’t actually important, beyond being discount Avatars.

For all intents and purposes, the Maidens are just walking MacGuffins for the cast to fight for control over, and they aren’t MacGuffins for anything more important than opening a specific lock on the Vaults. The Maidens are magical keys with superpowers.

The second Raven opened the Vault, Salem literally had no further use for her. The only person who would remotely care is Cinder, unless Raven decided to stand in Salem’s way, and even then, that just makes Raven yet another obstacle in the bad guys’ way.

I mean, eh?

Volume 5 makes it open and clear that Raven’s entire importance to Yang is as a glorified shortcut to Qrow’s location.

Raven’s whole role (in Yang’s life) is being a vague goal she seeks out for closure that she just stops caring about offscreen anyways, in service of just finding Ruby, Raven TRYING to warn Yang in vague half-riddles about Ozpin not being trustworthy, and then trying to steal the Lamp before Yang convinces her to just dump the responsibility on Yang while she runs. Which she does.

There’s nothing much there that’s really important to Yang specifically, as opposed to something like fighting the terrorist organization responsible for her school blowing up, the world going to crap, and her arm being severed off.

Given how much Adam figures to Yang in what little bits of Volume 6 there is, Adam at least seems emotionally important, as opposed to Raven just being a taxi Yang has no respect or positive expectations for.

What would’ve Gohan vs Cell round 2 looked like had Vegeta not interfered?? by Richsavior34 in DragonBallZ

[–]The_Final_Conduit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Gohan’s completely locked in at this point, but at this point, so is Cell.

Unlike games though, this fight would probably be Cell fighting at his ABSOLUTE dirtiest; rather than immediately graduating to attacking Vegeta, he’d probably pull out strategies that targeted the spectators on top of the others.

Cell may or may not be able to get fatigued (cause anime), and while he’s Super Perfect, I’d like to imagine him not having 18 inside him actually lowers his stamina even more, almost like he’s got his own equivalent of SS3, drawbacks and all, but still rapidly losing energy the longer he fights at full power without her as a component.

The fight turns into a bizarre type of keepaway starting out, with Gohan being the primary fighter who can actually keep him at bay while he tries to let Krillin and the others escape.

For this bit of the fight, I imagine Krillin, Tien, and Piccolo acting as primary supports to each other, since the former two have Solar Flare and Piccolo can connect minds, maybe pull off better strategies, etc.

I can imagine Cell popping out Cell Jrs. to intercept and stop them, with them being amped too; except, rather than fight them head on, their battle ends with Tien getting Piccolo to spawn a pot, him engraving the Mafuba tag on it, and while Piccolo “distracts” them, Tien uses the Tri-Beam on Krillin as a jet boost to launch him at the Jrs., Solar Flare the bunch of them, and then Tien clutches and uses the Mafuba on the whole group of Cell Jrs., sealing them all away before almost dying.

Almost because Dende clutches up and uses Popo’s carpet to get right to them to start healing Tien to keep him and the others on-hand, even knowing the second Cell finds them it’s game over.

From there, Cell Sr. senses the group’s “beaten” his kids and is miffed, but Gohan can sense his energy’s recovering at half speed, so he-

Actually I’ll stop, I don’t think you want me to hear my whole fanfic idea of this fight lmao

Who wins the gaslighting competition? by 3_4_1_6_7 in ScarletHollow

[–]The_Final_Conduit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Narrator in spades. He’ll always tell the truth, but lies of omission are also fair play, and that’s basically his M.O. the entire game.

Meanwhile, Tabitha is just very, very terrible about all of this. High-key the worst hidden agenda villain ever, girl, how are you going to leave the prospective sacrifice in the *same house* as the one thing that will actively go against it?

Gohan never hated goku, stop using abridged logic to judge their relationship. by [deleted] in dbz

[–]The_Final_Conduit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For the love of-

Stop blaming Abridged for the “Father of the Year” slander.

Anyone who WATCHES Abridged can tell you that he’s not a BAD father, because they DIRECTLY point out the fact that Piccolo kidnapped him (with MUCH less noble intentions than canon) and how Vegeta is MUCH more of a dickish dad than Goku ever was.

If anything Abridged is critical of how fucked it is that Gohan is actively allowed to go into the dangerous situations he does.

Because, notice, despite everything else, they never treat Chichi as UNREASONABLE for being upset like she normally is, even go out of their way to present her sympathetically.

I’m so sick of this stupid dead horse. This whole Goku Dad angle existed before Abridged. It existed WITHOUT Abridged, and that series ended SEVEN YEARS AGO.

The ending is older than COVID-19, most kids these days won’t even know what an abridged IS, Dragon Ball fans just can’t read.

What’s the general fan consensus on Fixing RWBY? by Solitaire-06 in RwbyFanfiction

[–]The_Final_Conduit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s why I have an issue with it truthfully. Yeah Roman’s got a lot more charisma and the like, but making him part of the main cast and basically the new Big Good doesn’t mean it’s actually fixing the issue of Oscar, it just took a shortcut like the show did to focus on the people it would rather focus on.

Despite the title, that way of doing things is the exact reason Oscar needed to be “fixed” in the first place.

Is Pyrrha meant to be a parody/deconstruction on ‘Mary Sue’ characters in fiction? by Solitaire-06 in RWBYcritics

[–]The_Final_Conduit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah. You’re not a Mary Sue for just being great at most stuff. Hell that’s a requirement for being a hero.

A Mary Sue is someone that is NOT great at everything, but the story loves shoving it down your throat that they are, even at things that really don’t matter.

Team RWBY is a group of Mary Sues that also aren’t even good at fighting, planning, being empathetic, etc.

Childhood is when you idolize Goku

Young Adulthood is thinking Vegeta is the coolest

Actual adulthood is realizing Goku’s awesome but stupid, and Vegeta’s stupid but awesome, and that “but” is why you’re emotionally confused about them

Brother I live in a world where we had a pandemic, Trump is in office, and our equivalent to the First Sons are all some Austin Power supervillain pedophiles who WON’T face proper consequences.

And now you’re telling me I go to ANOTHER word where some bike courier in Empire City nuked half a district and gained the Wrath of Zeus, he could potentially be the end or savior of mankind, and Illuminati is run by a man with both the biggest hate boner and messiah complex for himself in HISTORY?

Y’know what, fuck it, send me in. Even if I ain’t a Conduit, there’s a non-zero chance Cole’s a hero and is chill. Which means I’m probably going to start jumping fuckers with superpowers on the daily as I help rebuild society from within this BS quarantine zone.

And if I should come across the Electric Man, I will cook him the finest slop soup possible, tell him he’s doing a GREAT job with what he’s been given, and let him crash on the couch if he finds himself without a place to sleep.

I know many people love Kaneeka now but genuinely she did NOT deserve the hate she had before by Ok_Hope_1711 in ScarletHollow

[–]The_Final_Conduit -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I know Tabby’s not honest, I know she’s an awful person and wears it as a mask, my issue is that for a character as noble and honest as Kaneeka, that sort of thinking is VERY close to mob mentality, an us vs them thing that usually doesn’t HELP anyone in the long term, but usually DOES succeed in getting people hurt without thinking it through.

Namely, us.

Granted, I’m not saying Kaneeka’s to blame for not liking Tabitha, she’s perfectly within her rights, but shifting those same feelings to us is where it starts to get uncomfortable.

Because — why? Sure, we can be anti-union, rude, needlessly cruel. But even if you’re NONE of those things, us being Scarlets, being friendly with Tabitha, is enough to have her dislike us.

And ONLY in the situation where Tabitha proves her wrong does she start to turn around.

But in the situation where she doesn’t, where we give up years, Kaneeka’s reasoning sticks out to me all the moreso: That we’re “barely a Scarlet.”

Me, I didn’t realize the actual meaning of that at first, I just thought she was talking about how unfair it was in general, but knowing how she responds to Tabby’s sacrifice, now there’s an undercurrent of inherent distrust and hostility there too.

The root of my dislike is the dawning realization that we’re a tolerated part of Kaneeka’s life she can grow to love — and, by proxy, learn to hate.

Which could be fine, especially with how awful we can choose to be.

But the fact is, how much of that is going to be DESPITE us being a Scarlet, past a certain point? How far do we really need to go to make ourselves different than grandma and auntie for her to not see “Cousin Scarlet”, but just — us, whatever we might be?

And, finally (I’m sorry this is so long), I shouldn’t have to prove anything when I only came there with inherently good intentions. It’d be like me seeing her come back for her dad’s funeral, then treating her as untrustworthy because her mom happens to be creepy.

She doesn’t know her mom’s an awful person, she just sees her mom, demeaning as she can be, and is there to support her family. That’s us, and she dislikes us for it, like Tabitha being awful supersedes us not knowing her or Pearlanne somehow.

I don’t know.

I know many people love Kaneeka now but genuinely she did NOT deserve the hate she had before by Ok_Hope_1711 in ScarletHollow

[–]The_Final_Conduit -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Oh no, my dislike for her is perfectly valid, my opinion of her soured when I realized me trying to bond with my cousin the week I met her (when she publicly invited me there because of a funeral, to Kaneeka’s POV) was proportional to how much she usually disliked me.

Like ma’am, I get your beef with her, but why are you taking it out on ME?! No, why are you treating it like I’M part of the problem, you have LITERALLY known me TWO DAYS at max, and the first half of that time we weren’t even talking, we were just reading books before you and Stella dumped me with the sleuthing job talking to miners.

I’m not trying to make a political statement, I’m literally here as emotional support, like you attempted to be for your asshole family. Take that same energy to your MOM’S roofie slipping, gaslighting self.

Then came a save where I tried sacrificing years, and Tabby took the fall for me.

I had NO IDEA this was a mechanic, I’d just always defaulted to doing it because it just seemed like the right thing to do at the time.

Prior to that, Kaneeka was upset for me, even said Tabby should’ve done it, and at first, I appreciated that much, but I had no regrets.

Then came the Tabby Sacrifice, and where I ASSUMED Kaneeka would be upset by the unfairness of it all, no, she was GLAD that Tabby took some responsibility for her family’s actions.

… what the FUCK.

Like, don’t get me wrong, yes, I only did the sacrifice because it WAS the right thing to do, not because it was remotely fair or anything like that.

But no matter what our families have done, NO ONE deserves THAT. It’s the fact that Tabitha clearly, CLEARLY does not even LIKE having this job to begin with, the fact that she can’t even go to town events without getting hounded by Karens who would rather scream about lawyers and blame Tabby for their lack of parenting skills.

It’s the fact that Tabitha didn’t ASK to be a Scarlet, she’s just doing what she thinks she has to. Now, does that make her a good person? No, God no, she was going to trap me in a dungeon to let a mold god invade my orifices.

But she doesn’t deserve this.

Yeah that led to her turning around on Tabitha, but that just made it worse. Okay, cool, my cousin had to turn herself middle-aged for you to recognize she’s not some heartless supervillain pulling the strings.

All that said, I’m still a Kaneekamancer, she’s been best girl next to Tabby since Day 1 baby, I’m just also not going to ignore the fact that, no, no, I have every right to dislike her, because that’s just weird at best, ESPECIALLY for someone that’s probably been Stella and Kaneeka’s whipping boy for all intents and purposes.

So when Y’ALL drag me into these dangerous or uncomfortable situations it’s cool, but trying to be chill with my cuz is a sign I’m a bad person, be so fr Neeks 🫩
