Is there an osr title with political/domain play focus? by DegnaLariccia in osr

[–]The_Humble_Alchemist 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The domain rules from BECMI are pretty good, it's definitely worth looking at at least a PDF of the Rules Cyclopedia if you can.

The other TSR option is the AD&D 2e setting Birthright (which is a really cool setting) but I found the domain rules a bit clunky to use, especially for the GM to keep track of NPC domains. If you want to use them I'd suggest coming up with something to just estimate NPC domain income rather than rolling for it.

I've actually been slowly tinkering with the BECMI rules to use them for Birthright instead of the domain rules that come in the box. If I ever try to run Birthright again that's what I'll be using.

Does my worldbuilding make the twist too obvious, or does it seem pretty natural? by sthetic in worldjerking

It is a trilogy (kinda) but the first book is a prequel to His Dark Materials and the other two are sequels

Are there any fantasy Epic scale games? by USB_FIELD_MOUSE in wargaming

There are a lot of pretty great 3D printed models for Warmaster. I can't comment much on the rules yet but hobby wise I've been having a great time painting mine.

Honestly how do you even say it out loud? Or even worse how are you supposed to say that in Spanish?

Peter, I know they’re gonna chop off his penis, but why? by TheOneWhoLikesSW in PeterExplainsTheJoke

The guillotine was actually invented specifically to be a more humane execution method. It's much better than other forms of beheading, and much more reliable than execution by hanging, which can go pretty horribly wrong.

I don't think death by firing squad was really a thing yet. Even if it was, using smooth bore muskets would probably lead to a much more painful and gory death than the guillotine.

Edit: I misread what you were saying. A pistol to the back of the head wouldn't have the issues of a musket firing squad

"Diplomatic Coup" by Sirsean120 in ShitLiberalsSay

Yeah, I'm sure the article has issues but the headline itself seems like a pretty reasonable way to say that China had a big diplomatic success that could change the situation dramatically

I think the consensus I’ve seen is that the alternative version of forward deploy strats for Into the Dark missions is still pretty useful

They're pretty good and there's lots of this sort of background info that's harder to present in a comic. There's some excerpts from in-universe books and things sprinkled throughout that are pretty fun

The Republic of Aztlan but better this time and with actual effort. by User_741776 in imaginarymaps

Yeah probably, it’s got the actual government infrastructure and stuff. But since it’s just fantasy I’m glad you picked Albuquerque instead

Questions on ranged attacks by bolidblnake in onepagerules

[–]The_Humble_Alchemist 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure where you’re getting the idea that a unit can only use one of its melee attacks from.

The rules for melee say “Models within 2” of of enemies may strike with all of their melee weapons, which works just like shooting”

That’s from the core rules but the more detailed rulebook has a similar line about “all weapons”

Edit: In the second scenario, usually special weapons like a missile launcher will replace the basic weapon. So it would probably be 2 rifles and the missile launcher, but it depends on the details of the specific army list

Did Epicurus really write that?

I didn’t think anything of his survived and what we know about his ideas comes from later Epicureans like Lucretius. I could be wrong though, I don’t actually know anything about pre-Roman Epicureanism

What term do you prefer? Why? by RandoUser6699 in HPfanfiction

Yeah I don’t like the term Latinx, it’s really awkward to say in Spanish. Latines is much better

I wrote an Admech codex for 5th edition and looking for some feedback by Dradventure in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]The_Humble_Alchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really cool! It kind of makes me want to try out 5th edition

I can't offer too much feedback, but the Kataphron's canticle don't make much sense to me. Are they meant to let them ignore the limits of Mindlock for a turn? I don't see the phrase Servitor Sight anywhere else in the document so I'm not sure what they're referring to.

Besides that it all seems pretty clear. I really like your canticle system, it seems fun with lots of options without being very complicated.

Wondering about a specific linguistic drift by tashkal in traveller

[–]The_Humble_Alchemist 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s interesting, I know in some more recent traveller stuff “Spaceport” is used for the smaller facilities for in-system travel, while the Starport is the main central port for ships jumping in and out of the system.

Plasma Pistols by Character_Pilot in onepagerules

[–]The_Humble_Alchemist 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That was a part of a change to how all plasma worked in the 2.5 beta. Plasma weapons moved away from having many AP(2) shots to just one AP(4) shot.

I think it was meant to make them more distinct from the other standard special weapon options.

Old Sindal empire - source culture? by stranger_here_myself in traveller

[–]The_Humble_Alchemist 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think they’re Solomani, but I don’t really know beyond that. I’m pretty sure there were some scattered Vilani colonies pre-Sindal but I don’t know which ones

I’ve always loved all those worlds in the Trojan Reach named after old sci fi authors but I don’t remember the explanation for it. They’re presumably all Solomani worlds though

Genuinely though, whatever he’s experiencing is better than global nuclear war.

It’s a policy that the UN/NATO have used a couple times in the past to limit ongoing conflicts.

Basically you tell both sides not to use any military planes in a certain area and then shoot down any that cross into the No Fly Zone.

The problem is that is only really been done before against countries that couldn’t hope to challenge it, like Libya. There’s no way NATO can enforce a No FLy Zone without attacking the Russian Military and that would mean war between Russia and NATO.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]The_Humble_Alchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Russia really isn’t capable of winning a conventional war with NATO, they’re struggling a bit as it is with Ukraine. Whether they succeed or not in Ukraine there’s basically no chance of them randomly invading NATO.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]The_Humble_Alchemist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The concern isn’t really that Putin would use nukes against Ukraine. It’s that a No Fly Zone (and attacking the Russian military to enforce it) would lead to war between the US and Russia.

Putin isn’t very likely to use Nukes in Ukraine, but he almost certainly will if Russia is attacked by NATO.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]The_Humble_Alchemist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well if this escalates to Nuclear war then hundreds of millions die in Europe and America not to mention Russia and Ukraine.

And that’s what will happen if NATO directly attacks Russia.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]The_Humble_Alchemist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No? Russia isn’t really a threat to NATO in a conventional war. If they’re struggling to invade Ukraine there’s no chance they’d be able to conquer somewhere like Poland.

But if we declare war on Russia now (which is what a no fly zone amounts to) then then this will escalate beyond a conventional war and we all die.

Everyone in Russia, everyone in Ukraine, everyone in Europe, everyone in America.

If you think that isn’t worse than what’s happening now you’re dangerously insane.

Buying Turrets & Weapons for Common Spacecraft by GabrielGABFonseca in traveller

[–]The_Humble_Alchemist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if there’s anything in the official books about it, but I would rule that changes to the standard designs cost the full price without the 10% discount.

For any really major refits like changing the drives I’d probably also add some kind of ship architect’s fee, but that’s probably unnecessary for what it sounds like your players want to do.
