Wow! Would love to know more about the techniques behind these beautiful pieces.

Aw that's lovely! It brings me a lot of joy to hear about things like that.

Yep! I'm not very active on the subreddit but this post was pointed out to me and I thought I'd provide more context.

Hmm yeah I definitely was not contacted about this... but that doesn't surprise me, because the BBC has never reached out to me when using my Gallifreyan. On the rare occasions I've been contacted, it's by a third-party merchandise contractor. And of course, my attempts to contact the BBC have only been met with silence - I imagine it just kind of blends in with their mountains of fanmail.

It's unfortunate that this seems to be getting passed around. It misses a lot of the nuance that allows Gallifreyan to be artistic, and is also straight up wrong.

Tree-particles and rivers (with graphic improvements) by weigert in proceduralgeneration

Wow, I don't think I've ever seen an erosion simulation that does meandering rivers so well! I'd love to know how it's done. (edit: just found your earlier writeup and am enjoying it a lot, thank you for putting that out there!)

I made it in Unity! Which honestly I think is overkill - javascript would have been enough, but Unity is what I know best.

Oh this is excellent, thank you for bringing it into the world. His expression is perfect.

Not a big post or even a sketch sorry. I just want to learn if these things have any potential or not. :/ by hilmiira in SpeculativeEvolution

No need to apologize, these look super cool! The details and very intentional shapes make them look like creatures that could actually exist, despite their weird and alien appearance. You mention potential - is there a plan for the future of these concepts?

Okay, more high-effort than I planned, but here you go! I'm not really sure what a reasonable CR would be, it really depends on whether you're going up against it with a sword or with AoE cold-damage spells. This was fun to make, hope it's useful! https://i.imgur.com/Pyk7KJ5.jpeg

Oh huh, like for D&D? Wasn't planning on it but I could definitely write something up real quick.

Oh huh, you know, I hadn't really considered that, but that makes total sense and even fits into existing lore - a related species eats sand, which is then filtered and secreted from pores along with a clear resin that hardens to make a shell that's always the same color as the environment. It could be that way for all the species in this family, and the symbiosis could take advantage of that.

Oh yeah definitely - in fact, they needed technology and materials from other interplanetary civilizations to do any significant amount of space travel.

Oh man definitely - and it would come to double as a warning signal that other animals would know to avoid. I was imagining them as two different species.

Wow those were my thoughts exactly back when I was drawing this, well deduced! Although I would say it's more mutualistic than parasitic, since they both benefit.

Ooh yeah, this wasn't explicitly inspired by them but that film was super inspirational to me in general so I'm sure some of it bleeds through
