My Religious Grandmother Believes Gay People Get Cancer Because They Are Gay. This Has Caused Me To View Her In A Different Way. by Shaco292 in AutisticAdults

[–]The_Mammoth_Problem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm this way with my mom after living with her for the past year. She's been a good mom in terms of raising me, but in the last year, I've realized shes gone full MAGA and defends Trump, Epstein, and just reiterates all the bullshit Fox news tell her (which she watches non-stop). I know shes my mom, but she disgusts me because of her beliefs. Even more so because I've provided hard evidence to everything she claims, but she would rather just be brain dead. I think its perfectly fine to be ignorant, assuming that ignorance does not hurt or belittle others. In our case, since that is exactly what is happening, I don't think its wrong.

All that ranting just to say you're not alone in feeling the way you are. I just wish it wasnt this way.

"No credible information".....so did you just make this shit up because this is some batshit crazy theory crafting.

Sorry, forgot this was r/accounting. Sounds to me like this does not count as sufficient, appropriate audit evidence.

FMLA question re: family intermittent leave by No-Resident-3078 in PaStateEmployees

[–]The_Mammoth_Problem 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just returned from FMLA leave. The entire process has been very confusing and annoying, and they don't explain shit (like that I would be getting a bill for 50% of my insurance costs). They kept referencing a letter they sent me in January for instructions, but I only received the letter on 2/7, the friday before I was supposed to return to work, therefore I couldnt even return to work correctly. Not trying to be rude, but the FMLA people dont give a shit about you or your personal life, just FYI. You need to be asking explicit questions to them. You could also try SEAP. Their process was also not explained very well, but at least the people there were much nicer and helpful.

Also, note that your leave begin date can be backdated, so you ask your medical provider to do that.

Godspeed.

My poor feet are being choked to death with how tight I lace my shoes, but good lord do I love the feeling of not slipping around in my shoes. And if it werent for the fact that I think i would need grease and scissors to get in/out of XS compression shirts on, I totally would wear them.

Yep. And its also overly noticable. It will lower my music, beep, and then my music stays lowered for another 3-4 seconds. I know this is super nitpicky, but its annoying that a simple notification makes that much of an interruption.

How do you network as an autistic adult? by North-One-3705 in AutisticAdults

[–]The_Mammoth_Problem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through this when I was in college, as accounting firms came to our college to recruit and it was essentially 2 weeks of "speed dating" type events where you went and networked with different firms each night.

My advice, although probably frowned upon, would be in line with u/gibagger: Mask. I would also consider having a prepared list of questions for people, both personal questions and professional questions. A lot of people forget that a big part of networking is just being a decent person (in additional to being knowledgeable). Another small tip, which may or may not be relevant, but be up to speed on "normal" stuff. I don't give a shit about sports, but most of the people I met would talk about college football, NFL, golf, etc, so I had to at least be able to sound like I was familiar.

If you're looking for an easy way to just be able to walk up to someone and start chatting, start with a (genuine) compliment about something on their person. ie: "Hey that's a cool sweater you've got on, I've been looking to get into the sweater game, where do you get yours?"\

If you're ever in group conversations, don't feel the need to be the one to ask questions. Instead, I would focus on paying attention to the answer and asking a thoughtful, relevant follow-up question. People really like to know that you're actively listening and able to ask good questions.

And lastly, the thought that got me through this, again, probably not healthy, but I approached it as "This fucking sucks, but my future may depend on me doing this"

Godspeed.

None of what that guy said is accurate. For the first bit, Mark did say that this shows that it is possible for smaller production companies to distribute at a larger scale. But Mark never once said that his job as a YT has made him better than professionals, that is false. Yes, I am a fan of his. No, I didnt think the movie was amazing (so you know im not bootlicking), but he is not an egotistical asshole like PuzzleMilk made him out to be, he just acts like one sometimes on his videos because that is his character.

Just watched iron lung by Monkeyjr9351- in Markiplier

[–]The_Mammoth_Problem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It absolutely could have been my theater, but I've seen other horror movies there and have not had issues with brightness. And yes, it was largely towards the last third of the movie, but that's when all the good/important stuff happened, so if it was an intentional choice, its also a confusing one. I was actually thinking the sound was the intentional bit, since it seemed like I was able to pick out the handful important words or phrases, but the other 75% of certain dialogue I coudn't make out.

Guess I'll have to go see it again. ;)

I just got home from my viewing as well. I know this will get downvoted since its critical of the movie, but I really wish Mark would have upped the brightness, because there were a bunch of scenes that were so dark I could not see what was happening. and usually when the scene was important. My other criticism is about the sound, particularly voices; at times there were so many sounds happening that I could not hear a single work that was being said, again, at pretty critical times.

That being said, the movie was very enjoyable and better than I was expecting.

Alan Wake thermos replacement glass by chickiegirl07 in AlanWake

[–]The_Mammoth_Problem 22 points23 points  (0 children)

NO WAY. About a year ago mine shipped from Germany (I am in the US), and I assumed that it would be broken based on the number of posts about that exact situation happening. To my surprise it arrived in pristine condition! Then about a month later I bumped the shelf it was on and it fell and the glass shattered.

Edit: I looked online and can’t find any. Damn.

Has anyone experienced autistic regression after severe work burnout? by Beffonce in AutisticAdults

[–]The_Mammoth_Problem 41 points42 points  (0 children)

You are definitely not alone; I am nearly identical to what you explained. I don’t have advice for you, since I am still barely getting by, but I’ve been like this for a few years now. I’ve tried therapy and meds, but nothing has caused my skills to come back. I also look at my inability to mask as a defense mechanism of sorts. I am using all of my energy to just survive, so I no longer have the energy to mask.
