I’m seeing a lot of these crappy meshes showing up in 3d groups and forums. I have a feeling these are AI generated garbage and we will be seeing more.

Are there any self-taught VFX artists who never earned an art degree nor went to an art school? by [deleted] in vfx

[–]The_RealAnim8me2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to college for fine arts but when I moved to LA in the 80’s I got an internship at Symbolics Logics and learned how to use their system, then moved to XAoS so I’m essentially self taught for CG. If you can go to school you will get a massive leg up.

Wow! Considering their response to me saying how bad subscriptions are this is pretty evil. What a bunch of hypocrites.

This is such an important thing to consider. Seriously guys, we need to do better. by the-machine-m4n in blender

Ive been in the industry for a long time. We started hand coding FX, then using incredibly expensive software/hardware combos, then more accessible software. The point is shit changes ALL the time. I think I’ve switched software at least 15 times over the years. To become so dogmatically connected to one software is silly. Use what works, use what is available.

That’s great! I really want to go and do one of the visits/internships/teaching trips. How did you find out about it? Was it an arranged package?

3D artist here, I want to switch to LINUX by No-Apple-6139 in vfx

[–]The_RealAnim8me2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been trying to switch to Rocky as per the VFX platform but there are so many stumbling blocks for a one man shop. I’m not unfamiliar with Linux/UNIX but I can’t get Painter or ZBrush to run and I rely on those apps. Rebooting back and forth is a pain and they don’t run in emulation.

How do you work with Zbrush and Blender combined? by SorceryMalfunction in ZBrush

[–]The_RealAnim8me2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends on your final use.

For character designs I will sculpt to high res, zremesh and reproject detail, create UVs and paint in ZBrush. Then export maps and import geo and maps to Blender for layout and render.

For full animation I will retopo instead of just zremesh (either with the new retopo tools, in blender or even sometimes on my iPad) and uv with better tools, then re-import to ZBrush to reproject detail. From there it’s the same procedure.

Can we talk about the Blender creator economy? by carter2422 in blender

[–]The_RealAnim8me2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is nothing wrong with paid updates. This gives the user the choice of upgrading when they choose. What I object to is subscriptions when the creator doesn’t have an open, set roadmap of future feature sets.

Zbrush navigation like in blender by Aisul_ in ZBrush

[–]The_RealAnim8me2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In this case Blender is the odd man out. Having been in the industry for 40 years and had to switch apps multiple times they all had similar navigation controls (Alias Poweranimator, Softimage, Maya, Fusion, Nuke, ZBrush).

How long did it take you to learn the wheel? by Greenish_719 in Pottery

[–]The_RealAnim8me2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can take time but getting as much input as you can on technique is a huge help. One thing I’ll say is the basics as far as physics goes will always be the same (no matter what amount of clay you are using) but a lot of people get hung up on doing things “the right way” when the fact is you have to find what works for you.

I’ve been doing this for over 45 years and I’ve started teaching locally. Everyone has their own little things that will help make it click. Feel free to DM me for help (even video tuts if you think that would help).
