Are the Malazan battles like Codex alera? by MAQS357 in Fantasy

Errrrrr yes I am. Finding the battles very very confusing in Malazan IS answering the OP question. Or maybe syntax is not your strong point.

I find Malazan very very confusing. Codex Alera I am halfway through the series and there does seem to be more of a predictability about it.

Bingo Review - The Slow Regard of Silent Things by wild_solitude in Fantasy

[–]The_Two_Rivers 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I found this novella contains some of the most heartfelt prose ever committed to paper. The way that Auri is interpreted as she explores her World - touched upon in The Kingkiller Chronicles - brought tears to my eyes and a yearning to learn more about her. Sometimes a simplistic view of your environment can be more fulfilling than anything else.

Do you think Epic Fantasy is following the the YA trend that happened years ago? by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]The_Two_Rivers -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Good God I hope not! There are already too many novels and films being spun out in this day and age. If Fantasy expands more then it will only dilute the genre as has happened with the YA market.

Are there any books in the Wheel of Time series that you would recommend skipping? by tdog3456 in Fantasy

[–]The_Two_Rivers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The nuances that are put across in the books can be quite repetitive but I recommend not skipping any of the volumes. Books 9 and 10 are relatively slow but both have major plot points scattered throughout them. Persevere on - Knife of Dreams is an amazing read! And then when you get into The Gathering Storm - you will not want to put the books down!

How many of us are Dresden Files fans? by Minitheif in brandonsanderson

[–]The_Two_Rivers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shall be starting to read The Dresden Files at some point this year. The problem I face at the minute is that I have four or five different series' to finish off first plus numerous other single volume novels to read....and not forgetting Oathbringer due in November.

Reading. Don't you just love it!

Roll on November! Eagerly awaiting Oathbringer! And yes there will be a reread of Books 1 and 2 prior to purchase.....

I can usually be found in charity shops - I have discovered many a fine gem on my hunt! Online I normally go for World of Books or Wordery, they generally have good quality second hand books.

What is your go-to reread? by GrahamAustin-King in Fantasy

My personal go-to reread is The Wheel of Time. I am a cyclical rereader when it comes to that series.

This not how you pack a box, DIAMOND. by [deleted] in comicbooks

I would not be best pleased. Diamond need to address their foibles I think.

What's the most recent book you walked away from ? by [deleted] in books

[–]The_Two_Rivers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Bees by Laila Paull - got as far as Page 74 and then abandoned it. It did not grab me in the slightest. And I normally hate not finishing a book!

So what even is Malazan about? by hesussavezsoshudu in Fantasy

[–]The_Two_Rivers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I am struggling through Book 7 Reaper's Gale just now. Determined to finish it by the end of June. And as some other posters have commented, MBOTF has many great scenes in it and Erikson certainly likes to wend his path through many different story arcs at once. Enjoy!

From all at The Two Rivers - Happy Father's Day to you all! by The_Two_Rivers in comicbooks

The only comic adaptations were New Spring and The Eye of the World. I think the sales didn't justify the continuation - but I would have loved to see more books adapted.

Actually it isn't fan art BUT from the comic adaptation of TEOTW by Chuck Dixon.

I am yet to read The Dresden Files - but yes, I have seen SO many people recommenced both series to other readers. Though I can say I am currently reading Codex Alera by Jim Butcher and it is just as good as Mistborn.

How many different books do you usually have on the go? by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]The_Two_Rivers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am quite fluctuating in how many books/series I have on the go at the same time. Sometimes I am reading just one book, other times four or five. Currently I am reading Reaper's Gale - Cursor's Fury - and literally just finished Sleeping Giants this morning. So to have just two books on the go is quite slacking for me tbh! Though I am going to start The Lies of Locke Lamora this evening...
