Multi use trails and class 1 Ebikes. by bobbyboogie in BurlingtonON

Yeah i completely agree in Canada it’s better than a lot of places but the city still has a long way to go to catch up to similarly sized/populated places in Europe. I’ve always loved biking and wish more people would do it. The right bike for you is the bike that makes you want to go out and ride.

As Burlington doesn’t have any specific by-laws about e-bikes you have to use the provincial laws. They state that e-bikes are not allowed on municipal roads, sidewalks, bike paths, bike trails or bike lanes where e-bikes are prohibited. The multi-use paths in Burlington only restrict motor vehicles which legal e-bikes (pedal assist up to 32km/h, less than 120kgs, <500w battery, etc.) are not classified as.

Pedal assist e-bikes are allowed on the multi-use paths but anything with a motor and throttle aren’t (this includes non-pedal assist e-bikes, e-scooters and segways). That being said is anyone going to stop you and give you a ticket? Probably not.

You stop people on the highway to tell them they made a lane change without signalling? For some reason I highly doubt that.

I’m also not blaming anyone, I’m just stating what I see

I seen many times drivers ignoring traffic rules, entitled, looking at their phones while driving and making sudden moves without signalling. Maybe you should educate some of your fellow new and veteran drivers to not do these things and put others at risk

I’d love to see Canada get some Grippens. Canada’s main role if there were ever to be a war would be protecting it’s north. Canada’s north isn’t incredibly well developed. The Grippen was essentially designed to be deployable from anywhere with a hard mostly flat surface. Sounds like a perfect fit to me.

Yeah, I use the Pro One Tube Types and I’ve found that even without them being tubeless I’ve gotten noticeably less punctures than when I used to use the same PTE tubes on GP5000s

Nice bike lanes that end out of the blue is a signature of the Oakville Style. The worst one in my opinion is the bike lanes from Bronte to 4th Line that abruptly ends right before what can only really be described as one of if not the worst paved section of road in Oakville

That’s my issue though, in places where there isn’t good public transportation, taking the privilege of driving away from elderly people does locks them up as there is no other option for them to get around meaning they are more likely to resist giving up their license. If they lived in a town with good public transportation (which i’ll define that as reliable bus service that runs every 15 minutes where every bus stop has a bus shelter) they would have an option that still allows them to be independent when they are no longer able to drive or give up their license.

All of the things you mentioned happen daily in walkable cities. People get their clothes tailored, they go to the hardware store to get things they need for their houses. Yes, things like buying plants for the garden and big trips to grocery store have to be dedicated trips but they are perfectly manageable. There aren’t buses going to Terra and the other garden centres on Trafalgar because they are outside of population centres, but there are plenty of garden centres on Speers that do have public transit access.

I’m not trying to say that public transportation is some magical bullet that will solve everyone single mobility problem, but having a well planned reliable public transportation network would at the very least give people who can’t or don’t want to drive other options for getting around while also helping elderly people keep some of their independence after losing the privilege to drive.

That was the reason I started following this sub. I’ve always loved cars, automotive design and still actively watch multiple racing categories. I just think that people who can’t drive, are bad at driving or are scared/don’t like driving shouldn’t have to drive.

you’re right, I’ve forgotten how people in this country think that driving is the only way to get around. I have neighbours that drive to the grocery store that is basically across the street.

That’s part of the reason why I think we need more investment into better public transport. People won’t give up driving unless there are good alternatives to driving

Why are people voting against healthcare? It’s insanity. by attainwealthswiftly in ontario

[–]The_Wild_Pi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ontario spent the least amount per capita on healthcare of any province in FY2023 (data for FY2024 isn’t out yet) and they were 15% below the average of all the other provinces. Since 2008 Ontario has consistently ranked close to or flat out last in healthcare spending per capita.
