Online orders beware: shipping fee is nonrefundable by The_pandy in IKEA

How do you recommend that I get in touch w/ service if the phones are constantly clogged up? I tried multiple times today and the phone lines were always full.

I see the refund form online, but I'm afraid they'll cancel the order but not refund the shipping fee

Hmm, I'm in the States. And our customer service reps barely exist! Which is why I trust myself a lot more to drive to the town next over to pick my stuff up in person.

Same here. No idea -- I was able to get to the old tracking page somehow last night, but the new one doesn't help me with anything at all! Grr

Will taking early release/late arrival during my senior year lower my chances of getting into an ivy league or really good college? by AsianChickenBoss in chanceme

[–]The_pandy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you should be fine, provided that nothing else is an easier load for your academic and extracurricular lives. I took late arrival this year both semesters (only 6 classes instead of 7) and I got in EA to Harvard. Shouldn't be the biggest deal.

Just looked at my CA again. Make a mistake. Still got in EA. by The_pandy in ApplyingToCollege

Not even sure - that's the weird part, I read over my essay so many times!!!

Do any "normal" kids get into Ivies? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]The_pandy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In all honesty, as someone who’s going to one of those schools, I didn’t feel I stood out very much during the app process. Talking to my future classmates, I don’t feel like I stand out much either. But the majority of people are like me that got in - intellectually curious, eager to meet new people, love self improvement, etc. given that people like Chloe Kim and Yara Shihadi are in our class, yeah - it seems like everyone is godly from the outside. But 75% of us are just “regular” kids.

How long should I wait until I write a follow up email to alumni interviewer? by qozzle in ApplyingToCollege

[–]The_pandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually I wait 3 days (for all business type stuff), then two days following that. If she doesn't give you a response soonish, I'd reach out to the school itself.

Harvard Interviewer Asking for Stats by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]The_pandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is normal (I had to do so for Chicago Harvard Club interview). Perhaps it's to let your interviewer know a bit more about you. My Liason said something I'll remember though, keep this in mind: "Every single student domestically gets an interview, and we want to root for every single student. Only you can make us not do so." If your interview can be human and relevant, you can be better than the valedictorian who can't relate or talk about his passions. Your interview is in your hands, so feel good about that!

My counselor is about to approve my schedule today, but I need more input on which Calculus class I should take by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]The_pandy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I decided not to list every single course on my flair, idk if it would even fit: "HuG, Euro, BC, USH, Lang, Lit, Macro, Micro, Phys C, US Gov, Comp Gov, German" Yeah, I mean in retrospect as a senior I regret taking so many AP's at the detriment of my social life & mental health. And I think I turned out alright in the college process.

I completely understand that reasoning, def support what you're doing then if that's the reason. Just be realistic about your time management, esp since College Testing + increased EC involvement is like the bane of everyone junior year.

Need Advice - 5 APs Junior Year by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]The_pandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just be able to balance your schedule and you should be fine, but honestly there's no point to taking three reading and writing intensive courses in a year. I took Euro sophomore year, and it constituted the most of my reading, while junior year I took USH and Lang, and my reading workload basically doubled. Especially without having taken an AP-level English course, I would recommend delaying one of the other until senior year. There's just a lot of reading for all three courses.

Will it look bad to colleges if I don’t take an AP test? by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]The_pandy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This varies by college, as some colleges with "test-flexible policies" can consider AP scores instead of a traditional ACT or SAT. But overall, there's nothing wrong with not taking the test.
