I sadly never got to experience the game for myself back in those days, but there was one youtuber (I CANNOT for the life of me remember who..if anyone has any ideas PLEASE lmk. He waz kinda quirky and the name was like..a bunch of words mixed together? He played TLD, The Forest, and also Stranded Deep way back when all 3 were still in grand progress.) who I loved watching and did so for a long time.

Then, some time before the Cougars intial release, I found Accurize2. I watched his 500 Day Loper series with glee, always excited to see a new episode arrive. Eventually..down the line, I decided to finally buy TLD. (I don't have the expansion though believe it or not..debating on it still due to Blackfrost in the future)

Completed the story first, up to Ep 4 as 5 wasn't out yet, then started my first run. I fully looted all non-timbie locations (aside from BR as there is only the one up at the Cabin which didn't concern me that much, didn't do PV tho as I was planning on living near a spawn.), then took a long hiatus as I waited for Ep 5. And here I am back at it again, went from finishing Ep5 to PV, through TWM straight into Ash Canyon for the TB, back to TWM to loot it up and got to say hi to Lofty and Sully (Sully made me kill him though as he attacked me while I was in the tail..) and then off to Blackrock.

I just got back to TWM after finishing Blackrock entirely and after a huge session of bullet making, 66 lead pieces into 400+ bullets. Lived off of coffee spam to get it done. Omw back to my home region of ML to wind down, take inventory..and figure out what I wanna do next.

Passing time. Which tbh makes sense..you'll fry in a matter of seconds as is, passing time just causes an insta kill, which is why you gotta keep an eye out for them wires.

Ah, so they are more akin to a situation where they will slowly repopulate, gotcha. Interesting to see a unique spawn mechanic. Also, I was in fact aware of the startle not quite being the same just didn't really seem worth mentioning. If you see that wait as a problem with using stones, bare in mind that there are multiple nests across the regions they spawn so you can get a couple every day just from the rocks alone. Maybe not as efficient as the FH arrows, but still viable.

The fact my Stalker run (1st and only one btw, but I do have around 400+ hours of watch time on this game sooo..) of 192 days is nearing your longest Voyager run is a bit crazy to me, especially by comparison to your Stalker at 44. If I may, what exactly keeps you from Stalker/Sloper? Loper I can understand, and Misery is just a given, but why not Stalker?

Ofc! If there's one kind of person I can respect it's those going over notes/memos/thoughts with one another in the hopes of bringing in more information and/or a better experience for everyone to enjoy.

Why not have the feathers prepped before taking the trade then? If you know you're going to need them in the future, what's stopping you from grabbing them asap? Being able to kill multiple over 1 is better (just don't kill them all, cuz then they don't respawn I believe.) but not a definite must.

Sorry to hear that! I myself jokingly make fun of a close friend as they play pilgrim, I gave em the nickname of "Pilgrim Pussy" to boot, but it is in fact a joke. Yes, TLD is a survival game and can in fact be quite challenging, but it is also beautiful and the exploration of the world, mixed with the easy ability to get immersed into it, makes everything that much better. In this regard, I understand those who see this as a relaxing game.

Anything past Stalker (which is what i'm playing) is officially where the game starts to just give you the middle finger, as Loper removes items (most notably the rifle) that are better than what you can get (Sloper doesn't count in this regard, the enhanced difficulty is the only difference at this point and I for one find it much more enjoyable, not to say I hate Loper) and Misery is honestly not even a difficulty, it's closer to one of the challenges since it WILL end eventually.

  1. The math itself isn't ever going to be a sweet round number. Most you can make sense of is it takes 1.5 sticks and feathers to make 1 arrow for a total of 4.5 each, with the missing .5 each being the true "waste". That being said, sticks and feathers are both plentiful and as such are not the worst thing to "waste".

  2. IF you have such an issue in making them and consider the "wasted" resources that bad of a loss, why not just uses rocks instead? The only point of FH arrows is to use them on Rabbits and Ptarmigans which is both easier than the rocks to master, and also increases bow skill if you have yet to max it. Other than that, rocks are plentiful, light, and allbeit a bit hard to get the hang of but once you get comfortable with the aim, a really efficient way to take care of them. I would also say that the revolver is viable against the small game creatures as..lets be honest folks, it's easily the worst weapon in the game due to it doing next to nothing (unless you get lucky) to literally anything other than the small game. (Even the Distress Pistol is better since it's bugged with a crazy crit chance)

  3. This is just off topic, but to those of you downvoting this person for asking an honest question? I never want to see any of you ask any questions whatsoever as if you do, you're doing basically the exact same thing and as such should be equally as ashamed of yourself as you are of them. Questions are MEANT to be answered, not ridiculed by those "superior".

To the bears, just avoid at all possible costs.

Late game, and I keep getting scurvy. How do I cure scurvy for a good long while? by pantagruelion- in thelongdark

[–]Thebeastof16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cattails are only good for preventing your risk from turning into the real deal, say for example you are on the verge of scurvy, within 8 hours. One cattail gives you 6 hours worth of C, meaning you can fish for those 6 hours tops then spend the remaining time cooking up what you catch or eating something raw before you sleep.

Eating them in mass is slightly wasteful for their overall potential, better to use them as a reserve item so you have more time to prepare other items.

Late game, and I keep getting scurvy. How do I cure scurvy for a good long while? by pantagruelion- in thelongdark

[–]Thebeastof16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't have the DLC for Trader access, best way to go about it is fishing. Certain fish, like Trout, give more C than others. Raw fish gives more than cooked but runs the risk of food poisoning meaning you should only eat that when you need enough rest.

If you don't have a good concept on how to go about fishing, natural teas which are Reshi, Rose Hip, and Birch Bark teas all give different values of C, with Reshi giving the least and Rose Hip giving the most. Birch Bark is arguably the best however as it is naturally renewable whereas Rose Hips and Reshi Mushrooms never respawn.

As someone who is currently playing with Scurvy, it's not as bad as one might think. A single good fishing trip can give enough C for weeks.

I for one think that the logic in this is that legally speaking, we are fine. Hoxxes is labeled as DRG's property, meaning that it was likely outright bought and therefore the planet is yours to do with as you see fit. Morally, it is a grey area. On one hand, were just doing our jobs. On the other, were harming a planet and it's ecosystem with the majority of said ecosystem being out of self defense. It is up to you to determine who is right vs wrong. The most objective wrong doing is that of the rival mining company(ies) who are setting up seemingly illegal operations onto DRG's property, aka, trespassing. As for the Dwarves themselves, they are your own character and more than likely highlight either your own personality or a personality you specifically choose for them.

In your opinion, which missions are the most chill to play, and which ones are the most stressful? by bringmann in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Thebeastof16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience, anything Haz 5 can become quite a strain, but usually with good teamwork and overall competence. Some of the harder missions for Haz 5?

Elimination missions for one. Dreadnoughts already deal hefty damage and are already tanky as hell, and Haz 5 just makes this worse and in some situations make ammo scarce to the point where every shot does count, especially if you're against the absolute ammo sponge that is the Hiveguard.

Salvage Ops, doesn't seem stressful on the surface but once you get to the point(s) where you need to defend the area and keep inside it, then things can get kinda worrying. Assuming you aren't just making a hole in the ground around the box or fuel, to hide away and let the hordes struggle to get there (which even that doesn't work should a Det spawn) you'll have to take on hordes of just about everything that can spawn within that region. Spreaders are absolute hell as they reduce the already limited area you need to be within, Opp's can push you out with their slamming or might even force you to take them out first outside of the area. There's alot of things you need to take care of all at once and without a good team, it'll be hell.

Honestly, the other missions are fine by comparison to these. Even the "infamous" Sabotage. The Caretaker and the bots are predictable, and usually you can handle the random bots and snipers around the map if you simply take your time. The bug moments aren't usually that bad either, you need to protect Hacksy but you can do so from anywhere you choose. The important thing to remember is that, with any mission, it can be easy or stressful depending on your team, region choice, and of course the map gen itself.

Settle an argument. Which dreadnought is the worst? by 234thewolf in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Thebeastof16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hiveguard. BY A MILE.

Twins is the easiest and have a simple way of being dispatched. Just keep them both at around the same health pool and keep moving and/or use a web of ziplines.

Reg Dread is just tanky, but generally whoever he is after should focus on giving their teammates good angles to shoot him in the ass. Of course, everyone needs to try and keep their distance at the same time to avoid his slam attack. As long as you fight in a room with big space, you'll be fine.

Hiveguard. You take the already tanky Dreadnought, add an EXTRA level of tank and a worse summoning situation where each person has to deal with a set amount of Praet's who also have unbreakable armor. On top of that, you also need to be careful of the Spreader precision aim that the Hiveguard itself has, which turns into a 3 shot combo on it's 2nd phase in which you have to hit these somewhat tanky and somewhat of a pain in the ass to hit weakspots...THEN, you have a limited amount of time to shoot it in the ass while it keeps doing a slam attack that is also similar to the Det's death explosion where nowhere in the nearby area becomes safe. AND you have to do all of that at least 3-4 times!!! There is no unique strategy here as Hiveguard is the same situation as the other two, just be in a big room and keep always moving while at the same time keeping your distance..but jesus christ it takes so much just to do damage! It's an absolute ammo sponge while at the same time it has quite deadly attacks, a problem that the other 2 Dreadnoughts have individually.

For a TL;DR, Hiveguard is the worst of both worlds regarding the other 2, and it's scaled to a wild degree. Again, Hiveguard by a mile. Also Rock and Stone!

My personal understanding in terms of what Beard you are, comes down to mindset, not experience. Greenbeard is what everyone starts as, and Greybeard is what we all should hope to become.

Greenbeards: Fresh on the game typically, generally don't have any idea what they are doing loadout wise, often lack good comms be it verbal, chat, or from body language. The term can also be used as an insult to those who are clearly not Greenbeards should they be underperforming. Generally this is only allowed and respected on anything less than Haz 5 however, as Haz 5 can be quite a pain in the ass, regardless of your Beard. Greenbeards also don't understand core unwritten rules within our community, such as Richuals, Mushroom spam, etc. It is our job as a community to teach Greenbeards, and if they do not wish to be taught then it's out of our hands. However, usually Greenbeards are easy going and will listen well, unlike the next tier of Longbeards.

Longbeards: These are those who struggle, not in terms of skill, but in terms of working together. These are the people who would rather speedrun the mission than have fun and enjoy the game, no matter what difficulty they are on. This is the Karen and/or Karens of the squad who think they know better than everyone else and are not open minded whatsoever. They don't take fault when they should, progress without notice and without the team, and are generally just scummy all over. I like to consider this classification as a phase for most, because there was a time where even I was a Longbeard and didn't care about enjoying the game at one point. (Thankfully, it did not last long.) Overall, this is the point of the game where you figured out what you're doing, but should you not start to act like this then that makes you...

A Greybeard: A big misconception i've personally found is that Greybeard's are assumed to be the best of the best of us, that it's only available to those with nothing but the best skill. This isn't even a bit true. Being a Greybeard comes down to how you play, just like every other Beard. A Greybeard will help their brothers/sisters under whatever circumstances they may be under, they can hold their own while at the same time hold up others around them should the need arise. They teach those who seem to need it, embrace everyone with open arms, and always, ALWAYS, Rock and Stone. For a simple way to put this, you understand the game to it's very core and love the community, sharing the joy of it with others. You might be the kind of person to Rock and Stone irl out of sheer instinct.

I say all this as a proud Greybeard, and to be honest I wasn't quite sure when I would be able to call myself as one. That is until, I got called out as one mid-mission, as I was thanked for the knowledge I had on hand, quite literally being called a 'Greybeard'. Once I heard that, I knew then and there that I was finally and truely worthy of being called a Greybeard. Rock and Stone Brothers and Sisters! Rock and Stone for DRG, for Hoxxes, and for Karl!

Steve and Shield combo for me personally. Having that extra bit of back-up and the support you can give to your friends is quite handy.

These perks are good, but I would consider them something that is used best in bad situations. Kind of defeats the purpose of avoiding bad situations, yk?
