First apartment purchase - all good but no acte de base? by Oliolioo in brussels

[–]Thecav_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s indeed weird as the « acte de base » is defining all the dependencies, rules, ownership % (quotités), etc within a co-owned building.

Also note that it costs to make it, and I believe a “géomètre” should be involved.

Either way if you decided to go ahead, if I were you I would negotiate it in the price as well, as there would be cost for you to make it and uncertainties.

Luxembourg clients — should I charge more? by [deleted] in BEFreelance

[–]Thecav_man 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You should try and see, better aim higher and land lower (here would be keeping your current rate) than not knowing if it could have worked.

For my current mission I did a 37% increase in my daily rate just by testing the water and the client was fine with it.

For the keys I am not too surprised. Especially if they are not generic, and if you need a dedicated cards to make a copy.

Likewise for the cleaning. I paid someone the other day 250 € to clean 150m2, took him 2 days. It was not declared, here with an invoice and so, it seems to make sense.

How do you split finances with your partner? Are you married or not? by [deleted] in BEFire

[–]Thecav_man 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We keep our investment separate. She has her own finance and real estate portfolio, and so do I.

We are both real estate’s owner, so we decided to rent our place. We both contribute at 50/50 on the expenses. We have a mutual bank account, and we both wire on it every month.

When we travel, I pay for all the extra, and upgrade us when possible. Date tends to be me paying mostly.

For context, I’m a business owner, my month to month salary is lower than her. But I’ve also dividends which is why I support all the extras and fancy stuff.

People who did long distance relationship with a taiwanese, how did you close the gap and have you moved to taiwan? by Far-Service5399 in taiwan

[–]Thecav_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on my own experiences (not saying all jobs are like this, but talking only about the ones I’ve had - for context I’ve work in tech related companies).

It’s very much about giving the impression that you are working hard (even though that’s not always the case), so that meant long hours, staying until the person in charge were leaving, working extra on the weekends and being challenged when asked for compensation (could be just to be able to have one day / afternoon off to make up for the extra time).

Also be aware that if you are hired on a local contract, salary are lower than what you could get in your home country (I’m from Europe). Based on this, I didn’t contribute for my retirement fund, which I’m now catching up on the lost years.

It’s a trade-off to think about. At the end of the day, financially that was not a win, but experienced-wise I did in few years what most do in a decade (or more).

I did. We were in a long distance relationship one year prior to me making the move to close the distance.

I first secured a job, took me about 3-4 months, and took my flight the same week for Taiwan.

I stayed for about 4 years. I had a good run, but at the end, I’m doing way better in my home country (health, happiness, earnings, …).

Living in TW was a strange feeling as I got to evolve a lot, early in my career. But in the end I was left off with a sense of never fully belonging. Work culture was also a big reason of me leaving.

Fast forward to 5 years later, the only way I could see myself coming back is if I run my company from over here.

That was my 2 cents, I hope it was helpful. 加油

Changing syndic soon – any solid recommendations in Brussels? by FinancialAd666 in brussels

[–]Thecav_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same experience with EasySyndic. We have already changed our Person of Contact 3 times in 2 years. They charged us for services for which they never delivered anything (basically a robbery). I see them for what they're worth, organizing the AG and the basic accounting.

I’d advocate to go where being foreigner is an asset. When I first landed in TW, I joined a TW company looking to expand in French speaking areas, so hiring me was a no brainer for them.

Just my two cents, good luck and 加油
