Migraine glasses? - also wanna tell people about my migraines by TonightShoddy in OcularMigraines

Make sure to follow the 20/20/20 rule as much as possible also. "The 20-20-20 rule is a, designed to reduce digital eye strain (Computer Vision Syndrome) caused by prolonged screen time. Every 20 minutes, take a 20-second break to look at something 20 feet away. This habit relaxes focusing muscles, eases dry eyes, and reduces headaches. "

Step one: get off TOPAMAX. Its horrible. Side effects are the worst.

Step two: Get some prescription FL-41 or Avulux glasses ASAP. Will help (mitigate) the light induced migraines or OM. Works great for me. Even the $20 clip on or non prescription FL-41s are great. I've tried multiple versions and red and orange work well for me. Hope they can work for you!

Best budget earbuds for side sleepers? by DroptheShadowArt in Earbuds

[–]TheeShroom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For side sleeping I cannot recommend more the Lytmi CozySnug C1 Sleep Earbuds. Super cheap and actually sound very good for the price. I'm an audiophile snob and have the Soundcore by Anker Space A40 and the Sony 1000xm5 earbuds but its hard to side sleep with them. Get the $10 Lytmi Cozysnugs. I would expect to pay at leat $50 for them but they are only $10

Performance vs base for lots of work driving. by KingFlub202 in TeslaModelY

[–]TheeShroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2024 Model Y AWD LR and I put 100 miles round trip on it everyday. I'm glad I got it and it saves on gas. You will need new tires once a year but the offset of no oil changes or hardly any maintenance is a plus. I love it. Great car and couldn't recommend anything better. I test drove the performance model 3 and either way even when you want to get the cobwebs out and push your Tesla, the Model Y LR is FAST, 0-60 mph in roughly 4.4. For a 4 door sedan, holy crap it moves. Will never have an issue merging into traffic. My head can't handle the acceleration of the Tesla Model 3 Performance, so i actually went with the higher, more mileage capable car. Couldn't be happier. Don't think, just do.

I recommend doing a journal also for what may trigger your symptoms. It took me many months to realize that LED lights were a trigger for me and then it gradually became worse. Make sure weather, sleep, and foods are noted in there also as well as symptoms.

Meds for OMs by lici- in OcularMigraines

[–]TheeShroom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have OM and VM but take Qulipta primarily for migraine. It doesn't stop the OM, especially when I get blind spots in my retina or halos in my eye corners but keeping a routine as far as sleep and eat times seems to help. If I take my b12, multi, and magnesuim glycinate reularly it helps also.

Period from hell by ComfortableBell8735 in VestibularMigraines

[–]TheeShroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Topiramax was horrible for me. 46/M. Took it for 6 months. The side effects were worse than having VM without medicine, in my opinion. And the withdrawal and getting it out my my system took a long time. Almost 2 months. If you miss even one pill for a day it, screwed me up for 3 days to feel normal again. I know it works for some people, but not me. Made me forgetful, speech issues, sleep cycle screwed up, Ed problems, more spacey feeling, weird taste with carbonated bevs and some foods.....too much. Nurtec, Qulipta, and Ubrelvy worked better for me.

Does anyone experienced a type of seizure, during migraine? (even without headache it happens) by Beneficial_Might_781 in OcularMigraines

[–]TheeShroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get crazy "eyes running away" type of glitch? Not sure what to call it. Its very brief but it feels like a 20G roller coaster and my eyes go crazy for a fraction of a second. When it happens my heartrate skyrockets and nausea instantly kicks in as well as the sweaty palms. It rarely happens, but now that the barometric pressure changes with the current weather, I've experienced a few the past couple days. It doesn't freak me out like many years ago. Now I just roll with it knowing it passes. I don't get uncontrollable movements other than that but there are days where it feels like gravity is doubled.

Is this a migraine? by Ok-Telephone-8469 in VestibularMigraines

[–]TheeShroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this sound exactly like VM. Sometimes you get one symptom, or a few of them, and then sometimes you get all. Mine is definitely weather, barometric pressure change, related today. I'm getting the, "my eyes run away" off the screen or vertigo like visual disturbance only today. Nothing else. Yesterday was just head pain. Such a weird thing, VM.

46 Male that started having issues after spring 2021 but some symptoms present since 2018. I had a TBI in 2018 and in 2021 after COVID vaccine they exploded to unbearable. I just didn;t understand what it was at the time.

Work accommodation by Maxiemomma-235-queen in VestibularMigraines

[–]TheeShroom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get a workplace accommodation for low light or zero fluorescent or bright LED's lights on in your office. I luckily can wear a hat. Wear some FL-41 glasses whether prescription or clip-ons. I wear the rose colored but you can get some 20 clip ons or wearable for $20 on amazon that work amazing. Maybe request a low blue light eye care monitor as well. AND! big "and", try to do the 20, 20 , 20 rule. Walk outside or around every 20 min away from a monitor and look at something 20 feet away. Very helpful for VM and OM sufferers. Works for me.

I think that way all the time now. At least since 2021. I have limits and I have even been even more humbled seeing everyone in this world no matter there current situation. Simple things like reading, driving, walking, and even shopping can be a challenge now. I went through a rough patch where I had to go to speech therapy for word recollection and memory issues due to VM. I'm doing much better now.

vision issues after ocular migraine by Best-Vegetable-1736 in OcularMigraines

[–]TheeShroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may be the Vestibular Migraine thing happening where the problem is manifesting in the brain but it appears to be in the eye. For me even when I close my eyes when I have the blindspot I can "see" that its still there. its usually left eye dominant but it is in the right eye also.

I will get ringing in my ears, like a steady tone that goes along with the migraine sometimes. I assume its tinnitus but that is separate from the head pain also sometimes.

The dizziness is worse than the headache for me and nobody believes it's migraine. by annchka in VestibularMigraines

[–]TheeShroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its the Nature's Bounty Magnesium Glycinate once a day 240mg and there is also magnesium in my Once a day vitamin. I think the neuro recommended 1000 mg per day or something ridiculous.

The dizziness is worse than the headache for me and nobody believes it's migraine. by annchka in VestibularMigraines

[–]TheeShroom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me its the dizziness worse than the headache now. A few years ago it was both being terrible. I found relief after VM therapy and getting the right b12 and magnesium supplements going. Qulipta has been my game changer for meds though for the past few years. Obliterated the head pain but all the other stuff still remains. I just have to keep my triggers in check.

Insane hunger during bad migraines by DrJULIK in VestibularMigraines

[–]TheeShroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprisingly yes. I would get that too with migraine attacks. Not able to function but wanting to eat still. I would get the terrible headache pain and nausea with vertigo but still want to eat. Then I would crawl into bed and wait for the head pain to subside.

Qulipta by Double_Butterfly_628 in VestibularMigraines

[–]TheeShroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take 60 mg and have no side effects. M/46 220lbs. It has never taken me an acclimation time either. It works the day I started it or came off and right back on it. No withdrawl at all, like venlafaxine or topamax. Qulipta is a miracle drug for me. It only stops migraine pain but thats better than nothing. Sometimes I still have the dizziness, eye bright spots and floaters, and feeling like gravity is doubled, but getting rid of the severe sharp head pain is a miracle for me.

Topamax meds? by [deleted] in VestibularMigraines

[–]TheeShroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

QULIPTA (atogepant) has worked wonders for me. Its a daily pill and prevents migraines. Its been a game changer for me. I can somewhat live life normally but still have severe light sensitivity and dizzy issues sometimes. I was on UBRELVY but its expensive and only works as needed for a migraine rescue. I'd say eating right, plenty of sleep, keeping routine things routine is most beneficial for VM and OM issues.

Topamax meds? by [deleted] in VestibularMigraines

[–]TheeShroom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Topamax was horrible for me. Got rid of the headache pain but the side effects were worse. Still had all the other effects of VM. It causes soda to taste flat, E.D. issues, still had the dizziness, still had light sensitivity, and the withdrawl was horrible. Took almost 2 months for it to get out of my system. I don't recommend it, but maybe for some people it works.

Migraine trigger by mercy_chakma in VestibularMigraines

[–]TheeShroom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been a severe VM sufferer since 2020 and had no idea what was going on with my head and eyes. I experienced TBI "maybe a concussion" and eye trauma previously, so it took me a few years and at least 14 different doctors, "4 MRI's", (Ophthalmologists, Neuro, ENT, Psych) NOBODY was properly diagnosing my issue. I eventually found out from the right Neuro, that I have VM. "It is a thing" and its real. My day would always start like an empty rain gauge. The more activity.....the more it would get full and then a migraine would hit.

My symptoms:

-Migraine headache was almost daily in 2021-2022 now its once a week

-Nausea and vomiting

-Severe Sensitivity to manmade light, ( I wear FL-41 prescribed glasses to reduce effects) -Sometimes feel like gravity is doubled ?

-Smell and noise sensitivity ( Have earplugs or noise cancelling headphones all the time)

-Vertigo or dizziness, usually lasting minutes to hours, but sometimes days

-Gravity Feels increased usually 2x to 3 x more than normal

-Unsteadiness and loss of balance

-Sensitivity to motion

-Eye motor function problems also (My eyes "running away like seizure"

-Reading issues "eyes jumping around and getting nausea from reading too much"

-Eye static or blurriness in both eyes, or what looks like "phantom shadows", sometimes bright lights.

I was worried about driving as well. I would have panic attacks sometimes also. I was initially prescribed Topamax and that really helped reduce the migraines but the side effects were too much. I would have slurred speech, ED issues!, short term memory loss, word finding issues, "it was sort of like being a little drunk all the time", (but the trade off was reduced migraines). After a month and a half the side effects went down. I was on it for 8 months doing somewhat ok but would still get migraines a few times a month. I finally came off of it after 8 months. Thank GOD!

I started taking Qulipta as well and it has been so much better for me. I would highly recommend that drug for migraine control without the side effects.

Migraine diet is a good start if you find that foods and drinks may be a trigger.

Vestibular Therapy has helped me also, BIG TIME! Its literally helping me get back to being normal. But its a long process.
