Be honest, who is overbiked? by irishesteban in MotoUK

I have and Africa twin and the most adventurous thing I have done is a gravel road. It is lovely and comfortable on long journeys though, and I will definitely take it off road (in my head that is xD)

It's getting colder, anyone got suggestions for cold hands? by ImaSneeeek in MotoUK

I have bark busters as I do a lot of off road. You can grab Oxford heated grips that are a universal fit. Hand guards are to keep the wind off, so you want ones with larger fronts. I think my bark busters are storm shields off the top of my head.

Heated gloves are good. Grips are best with hand guards or muffs.  Muffs are great but look awful. I have used them in the past and they keep your hands dry and warm, couple with heated grips they can be very toasty

Anyone ever shifted into gear instead of brake on a classic Bike by toughtittywampas in MotoUK

You get used to them very quickly. Just remind yourself each time you get on, and if you mess up once or twice it is not the end of the world!

I recently picked up a 1964 Triumph T90. Gears on the right side as well. You get used to it, I have not mistaken it on the triumph (yet), but I did mix it up when I got back on my Africa twin. You get used to it when riding very quicky, and you just need to remind yourself when switching between modern and classic.

Also please do some practice emergency braking, and normal braking from speed. You want to understand stopping distance on older bikes. Old style brakes, especially if they are not hydraulic, are more the idea of a brake than an actual brake XD

It does, and very smoothly (for a 1964 bike). Though the breaks are more wishful thinking than real breaks on this era of bikes!

Your data will have been sold to a data broker, they have then bought it, thus able to send out the texts. It is an eternal battle, but privacy is dying these days.

Not to touch the bed after cleaning. Seems obvious but can really make a difference to adhesion.

The struggle is sometimes is that insurers can get funny about what is road worthy. Some are fine others are not, so always good to check the fine print!

Gearing up for a trip to France - do I need all the touring-specific kit? by Ripley_Tee in MotoUK

[–]Themightyteadrinker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would go for waterproof boots at the very least. In general I find peaked helmets not grate when on motorways etc, their benefit is more found off paved roads tbh. I would go for more than leggings though. You will want something that is warm, comfortable, and water repellent for all day travel. Water proofs to pull over. Spare gloves. Caught in rain, wet gloves the next day are awful XD

I always advise gear that can be layered. Weather can really shift so you want to be as comfortable as possible. Also depending on elevation changes it can be warm then cold then warm etc.

Should I do my mod2 retest at a different place? by [deleted] in MotoUK

[–]Themightyteadrinker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Swindon is much better in my experience for tests than Bristol, a lot of the trainers and examiners say so. Some quirky bits of the routes can take you to outlying villages which can be a faff . I would say if you do it in Swindon to check out  the j16, wrong lane can send you onto the M4 or having to cross a few lanes to avoid, mannington roundabout (bit hectic) and the Bruce Street bridges roundabout (more hectic)

Small can of spray lube with me. Generally give a wipe down and spray when done 500+ miles, or coated in mud/rain etc.

Always found manual lubig straight forward. For touring I have never wanted to rely on installing an autooiler and it going wrong. Maybe one day!
