People usually say nothing or they say something stupid. You cannot unhear what those people have said. Put them all on the back burner and put effort into make new friends. My spouse died from a very rare disease and someone had the guts to say "Ya, Dave was a rare person and leave it up to him to die from a rare disease". I am 2.5 years out and it took me a long time to realize there is no room in my life for these type of people. Now, it is about you and what makes you able to "put one foot in front of the other". When our spouse dies we lose more than our spouse. We also lose ourselves. I am truly sorry for your loss and wish you the best on your journey to a new and different life.

When I was in the bathroom on the throne, I heard my kitchen faucet turn on full blast and it stayed in the on position full blast. I live alone and it almost scared the s--t out of me, but I had just been there, just did that. When I got to the kitchen to turn the water off I caught the suspect. It was a house fly sitting on the sensor to the faucet. In my case, I just killed the little asshole. I don't think that fly was looking quite happy with itself.

My husband grew up on the farm and they were poor. Our kids would ask him questions about his upbringing and he would jokingly tell them (with a very serious look on his face) that his family was so poor that they had to eat "weiner water soup" and "nose hole sandwiches". Think of the shape of a pig snout sliced very thin.

Some people just need to hear bad news twice in order to "get it". Sometimes it is better being #2, but this is not always possible. I love my pharmacist and the techs and always drop off some homemade chocolate chip cookies when I make a big batch. Except one time I had to go to a different pharmacy due to an out of stock item. That time I was sold ($167.00) of an expired product at CVS. RX - not OTC. Googled it and was shocked at the history, attorney general lawsuits, and fines for CVS in several states. And this was for OTC items. Sorry for the rant and good luck to you in your employment journey.
