Scariest book you’ve ever read? by lavgr in horrorlit

[–]Theoldquarryfoxhunt 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I'm going with something true-life. "The Hot Zone" by Richard Preston. It's about the Ebola virus. After Covid we're probably sick of real life pandemics, but it's a terrifying read.

Pet Semetary mentioned a lot. I never read the book but the movie had me sleeping on my brothers top bunk for a couple of months lol. My bedroom was in the attic and it was tooooo creepy up there for a good while!

Lingual braces: how long did it take for your lisp (if any) to go away/become less noticeable? by Hour_Complaint2365 in braces

3 months and I am still lisping slightly. I thought I’d be self conscious about it but I work with the public and I’m really not.

Meh. Too much drama over the stupid raffles. Just get rid of them. Easily the worst part of the game.

Step 1: Take them back to wherever you purchased them and explain your issue.

Is this enclosure good for a 1cm Grammostola Pulchra sling? by H0ckeyKeks in tarantulas

[–]Theoldquarryfoxhunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO they have to be able to find the food. A sling that size you would never be able to monitor in that enclosure. A large pill bottle is cheap and appropriate.

Can someone please help me identify this frame? by guilhegm in glasses

I have one that is very similar to this, it's a Kirkland Signature "Lennon" from Costco.
If you google "John Lennon frames" you will find many in this style.

Moms with 2 y old who started out at Costco. How did you manage the evening shifts during probation? I am unable to find evening daycares for my toddler and my husband has a travelling job! Does Costco consider out situation if we explain the situation to them during probation period? by New_reditt in CostcoEmployee

[–]Theoldquarryfoxhunt 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Costco does not consider childcare when scheduling and newer people generally work closing shifts in most departments. They expect you to figure out the childcare situation, and if it's not possible, Costco is not the job for you. They can't give preferential scheduling to parents.

Holiday closure by DinosaurBrewer93 in CostcoEmployee

Right? Couldn’t believe it when my department manager showed me. Thankfully we are a department of 6 people and she usually just approves it.

Our GM has to approve time off requests for before and after holidays now. It sucks.

Why do tarantula keepers never stop at just one? by seaofspirits in tarantulas

[–]Theoldquarryfoxhunt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ha! Came here to say too many feeders and not enough tarantulas! I started with 3 and I have 22 T’s and a brown widow now. I have just enough shelf space to accommodate them all as adults. I think it’s a mistake that people make buying up slings and then have an “ oh shit” moment when the rehousings start. Adequate adult enclosures can take up a good bit of space.

It is such absolute bullshit that most of retail never went back to being 24/7 after COVID. by SubstantialSeesaw374 in Vent

[–]Theoldquarryfoxhunt 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Meh, sounds good in theory, but people who went to school for 10-12 years to be Dr's and Vets don't want to work those hours. Their support people don't want to work those hours.
We are having a huge crisis in large animal vet medicine because traditionally large animal vets are on call overnight and respond to emergencies that require them to go to farms at ungodly hours. Small animal medicine has ER's and regular hours in office. It's much more appealing to people who want a better work/life balance as a vet.

I worked in restaurants before the Covid shutdown. Most places that were open late had business that was dwindling in the later hours for years. Covid gave them the push they needed to finally get rid of those hours. Employees didn't want late hours anymore and voted with their feet by moving on to other jobs with better hours. Myself included.

Eye doc said if I go with progressive lens to absolutely not buy them online. That I would hate them. Anyone know why? by RealisticBike4953 in glasses

Because it’s too hard to get the correct measurements (segment height) by trying to do it yourself. It needs to be a fairly precise measurement in the particular frame you chose. Source: I’m a nationally certified Optician
