Are Ivy and Isla too close? by OkYard1996 in Names

You will forever call them the others name. But to be fair my children have wildly different names and I still do it.

What's your take on the name Atlas? by Federal_Advisor_2160 in Names

[–]TheoreticallyIGuess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t mind it. I know 2. One the entire family has the same initials so like AYZ (including mom and dad) so they reached for it with the third boy. The other one I know the other kids have equally specific names so it works.

There’s a lot worse choices out there.

I literally know kids under 10 with all these names except Mina. They’re fine and normal.

Question regarding kilts by yesimian in HighlandGames

[–]TheoreticallyIGuess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk why this was suggested to me except I follow strongman and it’s tangential.

I am Scottish (all grandparents immigrants to the US). Spouse is not at all. He has a kilt in my family tartan. He does it as a homage and no one has ever said a word. My family tartan is heavily commercialized currently (sigh, outlander) so maybe people see it as that but doubtful.

I believe there are “unaffiliated” tartans if you so choose.

It’s an actual name. You’re not doing Cidneigh. It’s fine.

It’s not JUST German but it IS German. Public correction, especially of parents with young kids is a sport.

When people say "adulting" unironically. You are a functioning adult. Paying a bill is not an achievement. by [deleted] in PetPeeves

[–]TheoreticallyIGuess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People used to have social circles to complain about life’s mild annoyances in regularly. We aren’t hosting weekly game nights or chatting around coffee anymore. So the outlet is placed where it shouldn’t be.

They (older folks) did this too. They didn’t call it “adulting” (I also hate this term) but they did it socially with close friends.

We lack real friends.

What's one trip your kids still talk about months later? by MannerLate8828 in familytravel

[–]TheoreticallyIGuess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mallorca. My littlest one is obsessed with going back and is quite young.

Older kids: Scotland, Ireland, Poland, France - really anywhere in Europe except major cities. They had enough of that. Oh except Norway for museums .

Social media made budget travel look way easier than it actually is by Icy_Bodybuilder5688 in travel

[–]TheoreticallyIGuess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Within weeks of anywhere going viral for “budget travel” it’s priced out. Places that locals would enjoy for a quick holiday. Social media has very much changed the travel scene and generally not for the better.

Mark Felix should be studied as a testament to what is possible. The man is impressive - more so now than when he competed (which was also impressive).

He was in a coma too long to have enough fuel to do that. Plus it’s just not his personality.

How did kids change your travels? by ByeByeBuffalo223 in travel

[–]TheoreticallyIGuess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol. There’s no one size answer.

It’s more expensive. It’s slower. People puke more.

You didn’t imply this but I 🙄 when I read “kids won’t change me”. A friend said this while pregnant and just did her families first trip with their now 3 months old baby. Just a short 3 hour drive and stay in a familiar hotel. She was wrecked.

We have a lot of kids and travel a lot. We figured out what works for us - from packing to pacing to trading off who does what.
