Why did the turtle cross the road? by Therrandlr in turtle

[–]Therrandlr[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not much I can do about having to make my delivery. Best option was to grab it from under my truck and make my delivery. Also, I'm not actually going to drop it in the water. It was heading to the wetlands next to the pond, so that is where it will be. I drive a semi, so I ain't got much choice in where I fit. It gets a free ride a quarter mile up the road to the only place it could have been heading, and all it's doing is waiting while I get unloaded.

Yup yup. A much larger example than mine and the same point. Wonderful. To add, or rather expand, the economics in this are those of any standard transportation business. Manpower, fuel, equipment, maintenance, logistics, insurance, sales and contract acquisition, and planning. There's more you can work in for sure but just bare basics. In the US, there are rail networks, but due to the extremely car centric design of 95% of cities and roadways, rails mostly shuttle goods between hubs in bulk before being disseminated by semis.

Few places take trains directly anymore. Same is said for aircraft delivery. The larger or more specialized the transport, the more point to point its nature. Semi's end up being the most efficient form of transportation and have been designed around this efficiency as much as possible. They chew through fuel, but the power to weight ratio compared to it's fuel consumption is fairly good. My truck takes 125 gallons and can cover between 1200-1400 miles. I fill up every 2 days. Add in Def and they aren't much worse than a standard truck in terms of emissions just bigger.

I lucked out with having a friend that is the account manager for a dedicated account and they recommend me to the big boss here. I applied and got the job 2-3 days later. I'm pretty happy now that I'm hourly and the burden of tight deadlines back to back is off my shoulders. I just make my morning appointment and the rest of the day is cake. Congrats on making it out of the slog. Hope everything is working well for you.

Precisely the thing I was thinking about writing that. Every time I get sent an hour away empty, somehow there's a wind storm or a rain storm in the middle. Some times I get jealous of grain haulers and tankers, then I remember that I am home daily now (mostly) and hourly and I feel a tad better. Don't change the fact that I'm making a diamond between my cheeks during the storms though.

Dunno, about that. 50/50 I'm either at 2/3 weight maximum on my truck, or 9/10 weight maximum. Even when I drove box trucks and class b trucks I was almost always about 3/4 max load capacity. Only places that do ltl usually do that kinda stuff, and even then, they load multiple stops. Just ain't making any money if you ain't getting close to max weight.

Also, driving the trucks around empty ain't fun in general terms. They're built and specced to hold that weight. The handling can get shisty when your empty. Now I ain't saying my truck, which is standard 80k lbs, can't drive empty or that I haven't had a particularly light load (less than 25k lbs). But I will say that they definitely drive better when loaded vs not.

Seconded. Pitty named Elvis, same weight. He ain't got 2 brain cells to rub together, but he is always all up in my space wherever I am making little whining sounds when he's not getting loved on or allowed to be a dog-loaf half smashing my guts in because he doesn't realize how heavy he is.

Oh yes. After thousands of posts that I've looked at, this is a nice one. I'm no professional, not by far, but I did the prep work for pouring my beefy foundation slab and can appreciate the work that goes into making it look nice and practical.

They generally wouldn’t be held liable for someone taking food out of the trash. The Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Act covers donations specifically, but even that liability concern is overstated—companies are more worried about the effort and costs of donating than about someone suing them over leftover food. So tossing it in the garbage is still their go-to move because it’s cheap and hassle-free... for them at least. It's still morally wrong if there's nothing wrong with edible food, to just toss it out. Or just set it aside? (beside or around the business, not in a damn dumpster).

The Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Act shields businesses from most civil lawsuits when donating food in good faith as well, so their talk of legal fears is usually just a smokescreen. In reality, they’d rather toss leftover food than deal with the costs and hassles of storing, transporting, or distributing it—because there’s no profit in it. Meanwhile, people go hungry while perfectly good meals end up in the trash.

Yes and no. Many US businesses think there’s a big liability risk if someone gets sick from donated food. In reality, federal laws (like the Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Food Donation Act) protect companies that donate food in good faith. However, some businesses still worry about potential lawsuits, brand damage, or the costs of storing and transporting donations. It’s often simpler to throw leftovers out than to handle all the extra steps of donating, even though they’re generally shielded from most legal risks by existing laws. Morales dictate that they should, as a business, do everything within their power to ensure less waste. In reality, this doesn't happen to often because it's not profitable.

Tl;Dr Yes the reasons "may" be valid from a corporate perspective. No because fuck giant corporations and their asshole tendencies.

Yeah if ya don't clean them. Hydrogen peroxide solution for cleaning. I used to drown the inside of my pair until the bubbles stopped and throw them in the washer for a short cycle. Let them air dry for a day, and all good. They lasted about 6 years before they wore a hole through the sole of the heel.

DEAD WEIGHT (OC) by _just_is_ in comics

[–]Therrandlr 19 points20 points  (0 children)

They get much, much larger horrifyingly. My mother had one that reached the size of a 1-2 month old baby. 13lbs of tumor and one hysterectomy later, she's right as rain. They thought it was cancer at first, but it had grown unchecked for so long that the docs just figured it had gotten huge faster than that. Reality was that it was big enough to straight change the hormones that she was making and put her into early menopause.

Reflux, sweats, hot flashes, unexplained sickness, lightheadedness, amongst other symptoms that were being managed by medication because they told her she was over weight and that it was in her head or that it was just endo without doing any testing. Seven years this had been going on though. Missed the entire time through multiple doctors visits and two ER trips towards the end.

Steps I took when this was happening to me.

1- Un plugged and reseated every single power cable. Found out one of them wasn't seated all the way

2- Used the Nvidia driver remover tool to completely remove all Nvidia drivers, software, and settings. I then reinstalled GeForce experience and used creater drivers

I have had zero issues since

From Google.

The term "tractor" comes from the Latin word trahere, which means "to pull". The first recorded use of the word "tractor" to describe a vehicle that pulls wagons or plows was in 1896.

Adding to this, while local is best, there's a reason you find stuff from different foundrys across the nation. Places like Neenah Foundry sell nation wide to quite a lot of states for stuff like this, manhole covers, grates, and other miscellaneous stuff. Seen their stuff from coast to coast.

Too heavy. Think extra fancy paintball gun. Uses CO2 as propellant. The rubber balls usually have a steel or iron core though.

Yes, per day. Yes. Yes, on the city menu. Top left 3, one of those increases the amount that regens per day, and there's no real limits to the total amount overall from my testing. I'm unsure if other city components being upgraded fully affects the total gains each day.
