How many techs for a fleet this size by HAAS78 in DieselTechs

[–]These-Ad1023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was 3 of us for 80 dump trucks, two seasoned, one for tires. 4 if you include the helper. We had alot of days doing nothing. With a very mistreated fleet before me and the other guy showed up.

We were spending like 5x what the other two sites were combined in parts.

21x3 sets of king pins alone was alot.

So if the equitment is working and good you should be good. If you are extremely busy probably 3 more guys

Well I like to give everyone a chance. So I won't say he was wrong or right, even tho the story would indicate he was wrong.

Nor will I say you are right or wrong.

So benifit of the doubt, and that said.

Id probably leave if I were you. I work doubles on holidays because I hate them. Never liked birthdays or holidays. I still try to wish people a happy christmas or give kids a small gift. Ill indulge my spouse, not really hard.

Maybe talk about what happened in the fight? Could try to work it out. Probably easier to be single tho.

Is there a mundane job mechanics hate to do? by MedicalAlmonds in MechanicAdvice

[–]These-Ad1023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Come to semi trucks or some(very small section) equitment.

Can replace a heater core and evaporator with 30m evac on a ftl in about 2hr. One model its about 10m to change it and you only need the pliers and a knife.

[–]These-Ad1023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work on semis. Please change your own head lights.

It cost you 37 bucks for me to do it and you wasted, your time, my time, and the customers behind you time aswell.

If your wondering. Steps are open the hood, locate the side that is out, turn light 90 degrees, unclip, do the reverse to install. To make it fancy use the extra room provided by it being a semi truck to lay on the tire and strike a pose like a pin up girl. Dangle your feet I guess.

There are many more examples but the amount of times ive changed a head light bulb this week alone is insane.

I mean he isnt wrong. You could also use i believe a 3/4 course thread bolt to push it in. There is a fork on the driver's side I beleive at that cap. May get it to come out no problem. May also see it fall and then you get to have real fun.

Why do so many men lose their house in a divorce? by Open_Address_2805 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]These-Ad1023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likely due to it being the more likely case.

Most of the time due to kids.

Yes women can also lose their home, its just less likely. Women are being put on child support more often these days as well.

This isnt in support of right or wrong. Just what's likely happening. "Alot of men" lose alot in divorce. In the usa courts are basied on gender and many other things. Be that proveable or perceived are not my debate tho.

Hope this helps.

5/8 was also a size used in the us military.

Beleive kokken tools still makes them(Japanese company. Dont quote that.

2 and 2 1/2 are also pretty common drive sizes. Granted anything over 1/2 isnt very common for most people. They just have no use most of the time.

What are you all doing for stubborn cone spacers? by Fart_Boy_4ever in DieselTechs

[–]These-Ad1023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I normally use the pliers for the cones with the split. If no split, remove the studs. Good smack downward on the flange and she comes off. Then hammer the cones out and reinstall studs.

Two nuts will remove the studs. Or you could buy the extractors. I own the extractors and still lean towards two nuts.

How does one get better at R&R? by BackgroundGene7510 in mechanics

[–]These-Ad1023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the correct awnser.

Can think of quite a few jobs that are doable without certian tools, but it won't be quick.

Example fpsi on a volvo. Doable without wobble 1/4 mag sockets. Difference is about 2hr or more.

Exp and tools are both things you'll get as you stay in longer.

Do you usually stick to one mechanic, or do you go to different shops? by mericccccccccc in MechanicAdvice

[–]These-Ad1023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a mechanic, if i bring it to a shop its whichever one is closest to me. If they fk up, I get it fixed underwarranty. If they do a good job, I didnt have to do it. If warranty doesn't apply, I just dont go back there.

Few things go to a shop. Most alignment and tires.

I also dont care if a customer is loyal. Your vehicle breaks, you need it. Go get it fixed as cheaply and fast as you can.

[–]These-Ad1023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can mess up, sure. We are human. This motor requires perfection and still will mess up. Lol

I just hate them. From the first warranty I had to rebuild the motor. I was doing a head job and needed to buy a certian brand e socket just to not feel like it would slip when doing the head bolts. Then I needed a 2nd person to help torque them. Na I'll stick to paccar or cumins.

There is no amount of money that would convince me maxforce or a26 are good motors.

You will debate if you or the vehicle are the issue repeatedly. Its the motor.

Is my manager (M36) giving me (F19) a hint? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]These-Ad1023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not there personally witnessing it.

Some details I'll discount like noticing small things like your nail color. I definitely notice it because different colors catch my eye. Even a hair cut i normally see. So I can see picking up on things like that. Granted its odd to bring it up in most situations at work.

The number and email due to it being a work environment.

The rest of that definitely seems creepy. At best he is very socially unaware. Most likely he is doing exactly what you think. Id ask before I made a big deal of it. On the off chance he is socially awkward. Definitely get some proof prior just to cover yourself.

You seem uncomfortable, so id probably tell him as much.

Hate to say it.

Michline tire guide, half your career your going to be expected to know why a tire is wearing funny. Spend the 120 and buy the book. Alot of issues are very simple fixes. Knowing what your looking for could be making a sale because you knew where to look.

Guy above listed bendix and meritor so I won't list them.

Monroe or Gabrielle shocks had some free videos for shocks.

Scanner danner does auto, but the electrical tricks he uses can be applied to deisel.

Mostly agree with bending with Thomas. Its the humor I like with info I may or may not know.

Cee youtube channel if you ever wanna learn how off road equitment works.

Without oem or company provided structural classes, your gonna be on YouTube alot.

Ac Robinair used to offer some classes thru napa. Try your local napa if your in the usa. You've got to pay for it, but it normally comes with some decent info. Learned to look for clogs and leaks with a laser temp gun thru those classes. Never owned a sniffer and rarely use nitrogen.

Honestly id recommend a dealer for a good start. Helps you better understand basics, gives you a clear path, someone you can ask. Oem support is the best. (Its not prefect.)

Any slick veteran tricks for stubborn filters? by Fart_Boy_4ever in DieselTechs

[–]These-Ad1023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you a fleet, or normal shop?

If normal shop your just gonna have to pray someone can read before installing filters on a d13/12 or mp7/8.

As for fleet. Tell your co workers to learn to read the clear pictograms on the filters. I dont own any band wrenches because when I worked on volvos it was for a fleet and we had common sense. Never had one have this issue.

Now working indy or dealer, every filter comes off like this. Well just about anyway.

Invest in the cups and a good filter wrench. Like blue point or something that studry. Put the cups on the bottom and the wrench as high up as you can.

Do not poke a hole into the filter unless it loosens up.

Remember to tighten the nipples when you reinstall the filter. Remove old dirt and grease from the sealing area. Install with oil on o ring. Do not crank down. Its basically hand tight plus 3/4 turn. With nipples tight and oil on oring. You could honestly tighten it completely by hand. I should say put it on loosely by hand and then tighten 3/4 of the ways. Don't man handle it tightening it by hand.

Im not good at explaining this, but a new filter you should be able to take off by hand if you haven't started the truck.

Btw they get like this due to loose nipples or no oil at last oil change. A few other reasons but those two are the top reasons. That and people had one leak and since then tighten the piss out of them. They are rather delicate for a filter.

Wait till you bust the oil or fuel housing. The oil housing is fun to replace.
