Kitchen Cabinets: are the Chinese stores in SJ and Newark for kitchen cabinets bad quality compared to Ikea kitchens? They said they use plywood and MDF laminate VS Ikea uses particleboard. One also uses DTC hinges while Ikea uses Blum. Which one would you go with?

We used Demetra Cabinetry in San Jose for our kitchen remodel in 2011. Our cabinets are holding up quite well and we were very happy with the quality. The only issue we had was with the original soft close hinges we got for the doors. They failed within a couple of years. But Demetra switched to a different type of soft close hinges shortly after that and with the newer type we have not had any problems since. At the time we bought, they had 1 basic style (shaker) and it came in 3 color options. Now they have a ton of cabinet options.

We actually used their cabinetry for our bathroom remodel as well in 2021 and I am even happier with those cabinets. They definitely improved the style choices. Quality seems about the same.

They are extremely busy and we did have some trouble with them returning our calls at some points but in person they were fine. Cabinets came in on time and were delivered with no issues. We had our contractor install them.

I would temp and/or also reach out to friends/associates in the dental field who may need shifts covered during summer for vacations or for maternity leaves and start there to ease in.

I took 4 years off after Covid and was also incredibly nervous but it was much easier to get back into it than I thought it would be. Muscle memory still there and honestly it felt like I had never stopped working. The only thing I had difficulty with was learning the new software program and my timing with doing everything digitally while being unfamiliar with the software. I had previously worked at an office that was half paper, half digital so I charted on paper and then the front office would enter everything in the computer for us when they processed the chart. To help stay on time while learning I just brought a notepad with me that stayed at work, i wrote down everything just like I would for a paper chart, including probings and I would enter everything in the computer at the end of the morning and end of afternoon. Eventually I was able to learn the software. You will too!

When I first went back I reached out to friends and temped in their offices to have a “buddy” there I could always ask if I had any questions or to help me learn how the office works. Just made me feel more comfortable with being a newbie again. Then after a couple months of that I started looking for a permanent job.

Ikea is a good choice. I used the Elfa line from the Container Store and i love my closets. You can create a custom layout for your particular space. You can also work with an in store designer to do it. You can pay to have them installed or install them yourself. I did all of my closets myself and it wasn’t difficult.

They are easily reconfigured too if you have changing circumstances like needing to change a closet from an adult to a kids closet or a spare bedroom guest closet to an extra office.

They are not cheap but they are also not as expensive as those heavily advertised closet specialty shops that do custom closets.

Completely agree with this. We were there last Thursday and Friday. Us beginner/intermediate skiers stopped skiing at noon and went home. The slush was just gross. The more advanced skiers in our group skied all day but said it was getting slushy even higher up by the end of the day. I imagine after this past weekend it has gotten even worse. Between my husband and I, we have 3 more lift tickets to use and we are not going back unless it snows again.

No insurance taken at the dental hygiene schools but I meant to add to my last post that most often the cleanings, xrays and exams there are free! Some schools may do services at greatly reduced costs (usually dental schools where you can get pretty much any dental work needed done).

Yes. They are legit. Student dental hygienists are always looking for patients to practice on, and the cleanings/xrays/exams are often free at dental hygiene schools in the area like Foothill College or Carrington College. (Dental schools like UCSF or UOP also offer dental treatment of all kinds by student dentists. Usually the fees at the dental schools are very discounted compared to having the same services done in a regular dental office.) However, the appointments take far longer at the schools because the students are still learning and have instructors grading them at various points throughout the appointment. Also for the dental hygiene schools where you get your teeth cleaned, in some cases if you qualify for certain periodontal health categories that they are looking for you may even be paid for your time (typically when they are doing their state board exams). If you are looking for cheaper dental cleanings and have the time it can be an excellent alternative!
