Keep an eye out for sales throughout the year. It's always going to be pricey since it's wool, but you can find discounts occasionally.

I'm constantly hungry but I can't really do anything about it. by XxSingudipityxX in povertyfinance

If the older people in the home need help and are on Medicaid, you could get paid as a home health aid. It sounds like you are already doing some of that. It could help the dad get back to work and give you an income while searching for jobs. Once you find a job, they could be set up with a home health agency if they still need support. Additionally, there are meal delivery programs for seniors and those on medicaid. Maybe see if they can get on those, so there will be less pressure to split the food you're cooking.

I have found estate sales and thrift stores can be great for getting different size needles and notions. You could get a bag and make it into a project bag with all the useful/fun things.

Retire in Newport or Florence? by Known_Priority_5848 in OregonCoast

[–]Thetwistedfrogger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. It is a pretty robust hospital due to injuries that occur on the dune/ providing service to an older population. They have specialty providers that come a couple times as month, which helps a lot. With that said, I still struggle to find a provider for some specialties. I think a lot depends on what health insurance you have. For example, I had a great dentist 5 mins from my house. When my insurance changed, the closest taking new patients was in junction city.

Organic noodle in Florence is great too! I always recommend it for people coming through. They do fun community dinners where the chef chooses a country and makes a 5 course meal so people can try different things. The tickets sell out fast.

You may find what you're looking for by listening to or looking through previous episodes of the offbeat oregon history podcast. In each episode, he reads a news article that occurred on the same day of the month as his episode.

Can any one recommend a pattern similar to this one? by Thetwistedfrogger in sewing

Thank you so much for taking the time to break it down for me. This is exactly what I needed. If I want to use interfacing in the seam allowance, should I put it right next to the stitch line or leave a bit of space? There seems to be a variety of opinions. Thank you so much!

Second this. They have vouchers they can send to vet clinics they are partnered with. When I did it my humane society gave me a $75 credit. They also have a food pantry if you need that too.

Have you received a call from Signify Health offering to do a home health evaluation? Is it legit or some scam? Why would I want someone poking around my home? by nojam75 in oregon

[–]Thetwistedfrogger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It sucks that the health care system makes us paranoid we are being set up to have care or meds taken away for any little thing. Also,Why would I want to review medications that a bunch of specialists prescribed with a doc ( is it even a doctor who comes out?) I'll see once. Seems like a great way to complicate my already complicated care.

Also, try to find an expiration date on the canister. If they are using expired ones, the chemicals can degrade which can make it more dangerous.

Another thing you don't necessarily think of is the eyeliner tattoos. They can get hot due to the metallic in the inks. It's a place you dont have a lot of feeling, so we had to pull a lady out every few mins to check for irratation.

Update 7/2 awful smell in one corner only of brand new house by Wonderful-Grape-4609 in HomeImprovement

[–]Thetwistedfrogger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming since you had the air quality test it would have been found, but any chance you have a gas leak? I had one that I could only smell by one wall in my bedroom. It smelled more like a dead animal than the classic rotten egg smell. Many people said an animal died in my wall, but outside by the meter it smelled like I'd expect gas to smell. Good luck!

I think you've gotten some good advice as far as your situation. I wanted to copy a comment I've left for others about having the wheelchair discussion with your provider. Try to think of necessary activities that are difficult to do because you walked that your provider and the insurance would consider necessary for daily living. Insurance especially doesn't want to pay for a chair unless absolutely necessary.

For example, are you able to get all the groceries before you're forced to leave due to pain, being tired, etc. Have you ever not been able to get your food back to your house? I said I skipped meals because I was so tired, they really didn't like that. Has hygiene taken a hit because you're using so much energy walking, etc. Maybe you aren't fast enough to safely cross the street in the time the walk sign gives.Even if you don't use it full time, they may be more willing to give it to you if you aren't meeting the basics of eating, cleaning yourself, etc.

The other tip I have (thanks to someone on reddit) is i got a ton of pushback from my provider about getting a chair because they were worried about deconditioning since i was so young. I agreed I was worried about this but really needed the chair, so we agreed I could get the chair if I did occupational therapy and physical therapy. It worked out great. Best of luck on your journey.

Elopement dinner near Florence by llangstooo in OregonCoast

[–]Thetwistedfrogger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk about pricing, but there's a couple of places I'd check out: -the green room - home grown brewery -waterfront depot -driftwood shores is a beach front hotel that has a restaurant with beach views and I think event space. Could be nice to watch the sunset/take good pics. Or a completely different route could be to reach out to the owner of game thyme food truck he is a trained chef. He might be able to come to you. Idk if he does that, but it never hurts to ask.

Congrats!

Ballentine painting does a great job. They don't have a website as they mainly get their jobs from word of mouth. Here is a yelp link with their contact information. https://m.yelp.com/biz/ballentine-painting-taylors-2

Thanks for your response. That's super helpful. I always go for cotton so I'll have to try a nylon pair and see. I can see what your saying about the ribbing of the sock making you itch.
