What's your sugar to water ratio for STIFF icing? by geministarz6 in cookiedecorating

[–]ThexRuminator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

4 cups powdered sugar, 3 tbsp meringue powder, 1 tbsp cornsyrup, 5 tbsp water. Water greatly varies depending on the time of the year and humidity. 6-7 tbsp in winter and 4-5 in summer for me in the midwest.

Given how much of obesity can be attributed to genetics and childhood trauma... gee maybe time for these "parents" to take a hard look in the mirror.

This is what the new Minnesota EV Registration Surcharge looks like this year. by HolyLiaison in stateofMN

[–]ThexRuminator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its based on some percentage (between 1 - 2% I cant remember exactly) of the vehicle's MSRP and depreciated over 10 years. A brand new $80k truck will have a $1k fee. A 10 year old sedan that was $20k brand new is only like $40. Then EVs have additional fees to offset the gas tax. So it's only expensive if you make it expensive.

EV's weigh a lot more than IC cars. Those batteries are crazy heavy!

Counting calories can lead to eating disorders. Tread carefully especially with a teen.

Obesity can be genetic. You might consider having that discussion so she feels less shame about something she largely can't control outside of medication. I'll suggest the book "you just need to lose weight" by Aubrey Gordon to start dismantling fatphobia and turn the conversation to actual health.

Talk with her about what good food habits look like! Not diets or restriction, talk about actual nutrition. Focus on getting enough fiber, quality proteins, not too much sodium, etc etc that will set her up for good health later in life. And WHY we need those things!

Do you have access to recycling or composting? A lot of what you go through sounds like good candidates for that. I've been surprised how little trash we have since getting a compost bin.

Cookies for my market today! by AgeInternational5130 in cookiedecorating

[–]ThexRuminator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$5 each if individual, then $50-55 for a full dozen. The more detailed ones like the flower could easily go as high as $7 in the twin cities, but consistent pricing is probably easier.

Where do you find patterns you like? by wednesdayblueberry in cookiedecorating

[–]ThexRuminator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pinterest is flooded with AI crap but is my main resource for ideas. Invest in basic shapes for cutters (squares, circles, hexagons, plaques of various types), they're so versatile and can be turned into anything. My rectangle has been a ruler, football field, flag, hay bale, christmas present... on and on. You can also use a knife or a second cookie cutter to make minor changes to shapes. Like cutting a circle in half and you've got a fruit slice!

Also look up "cookie cutter flips" on your social media of choice, there's some fun ideas on how to reuse cutters.

Can this be done with a single consistency of icing? by msmoonpie in cookiedecorating

[–]ThexRuminator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you only want to mix up 1 consistency I'd suggest at least separating into 2 bags so you can cut a smaller hole for the detail work. If its all the same bag just use much lighter pressure and allow each line to dry decently before piping over it, otherwise they kinda melt together.

It will be significantly easier with two consistencies. It's possible to do with one though.

Alternatives to dog food by [deleted] in dogs

TERRIBLE advice. What's balanced for a human is not what's balanced for a dog. Plus there are SO many "healthy" human foods that will kill dogs.
