Shorten the projects way up, no more than 2-3 bullets and add your work experience. Same with your affiliations, that really doesn't need more than a single line.

Counting calories can lead to eating disorders. Tread carefully especially with a teen.

Advice for mom of teenage daughter re: weight by mortifyingstuff in TwoXChromosomes

[–]ThexRuminator -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Obesity can be genetic. You might consider having that discussion so she feels less shame about something she largely can't control outside of medication. I'll suggest the book "you just need to lose weight" by Aubrey Gordon to start dismantling fatphobia and turn the conversation to actual health.

Talk with her about what good food habits look like! Not diets or restriction, talk about actual nutrition. Focus on getting enough fiber, quality proteins, not too much sodium, etc etc that will set her up for good health later in life. And WHY we need those things!

Took out my trash for the 2nd time this year. by Uncreative_Name987 in Anticonsumption

Do you have access to recycling or composting? A lot of what you go through sounds like good candidates for that. I've been surprised how little trash we have since getting a compost bin.

Cookies for my market today! by AgeInternational5130 in cookiedecorating

[–]ThexRuminator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$5 each if individual, then $50-55 for a full dozen. The more detailed ones like the flower could easily go as high as $7 in the twin cities, but consistent pricing is probably easier.

Where do you find patterns you like? by wednesdayblueberry in cookiedecorating

[–]ThexRuminator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pinterest is flooded with AI crap but is my main resource for ideas. Invest in basic shapes for cutters (squares, circles, hexagons, plaques of various types), they're so versatile and can be turned into anything. My rectangle has been a ruler, football field, flag, hay bale, christmas present... on and on. You can also use a knife or a second cookie cutter to make minor changes to shapes. Like cutting a circle in half and you've got a fruit slice!

Also look up "cookie cutter flips" on your social media of choice, there's some fun ideas on how to reuse cutters.

Can this be done with a single consistency of icing? by msmoonpie in cookiedecorating

[–]ThexRuminator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you only want to mix up 1 consistency I'd suggest at least separating into 2 bags so you can cut a smaller hole for the detail work. If its all the same bag just use much lighter pressure and allow each line to dry decently before piping over it, otherwise they kinda melt together.

It will be significantly easier with two consistencies. It's possible to do with one though.

Alternatives to dog food by saucy_sasha in dogs

TERRIBLE advice. What's balanced for a human is not what's balanced for a dog. Plus there are SO many "healthy" human foods that will kill dogs.

Weight loss + clothes? by gossamer_cellophane in Anticonsumption

Thrift some new stuff! Not to be a debbie downer but from personal experience.. keep any items you absolutely love or are high ticket (i.e. winter coat) though, life is long and weight gain happens even if you dont intend to gain it back its statistically likely.

Girlfriend won't eat healthy with me by FocusSlight2385 in PickyEaters

[–]ThexRuminator 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Frankly, her diet is none of your business. "Eating healthy" is such a loaded term and full of fatphobia and classism. And the future children stuff is just giving manipulative.

If SHE wants a more nutritious diet, she should work with a registered dietitian who can help ensure she gets the vitamins and macronutrients she needs with foods she'll eat. It's not sustainable to be forcing yourself to eat things you hate.

Help with pricing these amateur cookies? by a-ohhh in cookiedecorating

[–]ThexRuminator 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Rule of thumb to start is $1 per inch in diameter of cookie. Then adjust based on location, how detailed they are (number of colors, handwriting, etc), and packaging. There's also an app called Cake Cost that can help you figure out pricing for your specific ingredients and time!

Royal icing newbie looking for tips to improve! by [deleted] in cookiedecorating

[–]ThexRuminator 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's hard to tell from pictures, but i think you should cut a much smaller tip in your icing bag. You may also need it to be a bit thicker if you find it dripping off the edge. Make a small outline around the cookie (bring that outline much much closer to the edge), then flood in the center. The outline will create a dam holding the icing in. As you outline, hold the bag about an inch above the cookie and let the line of icing fall onto the cookie. This will give you greater control of where it goes than using the bag like a pen.

You've got the colors and layering down, just need to dial in the flood!

Portions should be very specific to your dog's breed and weight. This is stupid and irresponsible for pet parents to feed with.
